[Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) The complexity and diversity of buildings make it challenging to extract low-level and high-level features with strong feature representation by using deep neural networks in building extraction tasks. Meanwhile, deep neural network-based methods have many network parameters, which take up a lot of memory and time in training and testing. We propose a novel fully convolutional neural network called the Context Feature Enhancement Network (CFENet) to address these issues. CFENet comprises three modules: the spatial fusion module, the focus enhancement module, and the feature decoder module. First, the spatial fusion module aggregates the spatial information of low-level features to obtain buildings’ outline and edge information. Secondly, the focus enhancement module fully aggregates the semantic information of high-level features to filter the information of building-related attribute categories. Finally, the feature decoder module decodes the output of the above two modules to segment the buildings more accurately. In a series of experiments on the WHU Building Dataset and the Massachusetts Building Dataset, our CFENet balances efficiency and accuracy compared to the other four methods we compared, and achieves optimality on all five evaluation metrics: PA, PC, F1, IoU, and FWIoU. This indicates that CFENet can effectively enhance and fuse buildings’ low-level and high-level features, improving building extraction accuracy. [Termes IGN] ville intelligenteRésumé : (auteur) Understanding urban morphology is essential for various urban management studies and local environmental issues and guiding sustainable city development. Existing studies mainly focus on analyzing urban morphology from the horizontal aspect, while the urban vertical structure has rarely been discussed due to the scarcity of reliable and fine-scale urban three-dimensional (3-D) building data. This study develops an effective data-fusing methodology to estimate the heights of individual buildings at a city scale. We examined a machine-learning regression model by collecting public materials, including multi-source remote sensing-(RS)-based products, building-derived features, and relevant data to verify its performance in building height estimation. By applying the model in Shenzhen City, a dense city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, results demonstrated that integrating rich multi-source explanatory variables could achieve high-accuracy building height retrieval. Using multiple building morphological metrics derived by building height data as proxy measures, the urban 3-D form patterns were further analyzed to understand current heterogeneous urban morphological structures. The proposed methodology can be conveniently applied to worldwide cities for urban 3-D morphology retrieval. Also, the available building height information is useful for planners to design morphological control for cities and thus contributes to sustainable and smart city development. [Termes IGN] surveillance de la végétationRésumé : (auteur) Leaf area index (LAI) is a terrestrial essential climate variable that is required in a variety of ecosystem and climate models. The Global LAnd Surface Satellite (GLASS) LAI product has been widely used, but its current version (V5) from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data has several limitations, such as frequent temporal fluctuation, large data gaps, high dependence on the quality of surface reflectance, and low computational efficiency. To address these issues, this paper presents a deep learning model to generate a new version of the LAI product (V6) at 250-m resolution from MODIS data from 2000 onward. Unlike most existing algorithms that estimate one LAI value at one time for each pixel, this model estimates LAI for 2 years simultaneously. Three widely used LAI products (MODIS C6, GLASS V5, and PROBA-V V1) are used to generate global representative time-series LAI training samples using K-means clustering analysis and least difference criteria. We explore four machine learning models, the general regression neural network (GRNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), gated recurrent unit (GRU), and Bidirectional LSTM (Bi-LSTM), and identify Bi-LSTM as the best model for product generation. This new product is directly validated using 79 high-resolution LAI reference maps from three in situ observation networks. The results show that GLASS V6 LAI achieves higher accuracy, with a root mean square (RMSE) of 0.92 at 250 m and 0.86 at 500 m, while the RMSE is 0.98 for PROBA-V at 300 m, 1.08 for GLASS V5, and 0.95 for MODIS C6 both at 500 m. Spatial and temporal consistency analyses also demonstrate that the GLASS V6 LAI product is more spatiotemporally continuous and has higher quality in terms of presenting more realistic temporal LAI dynamics when the surface reflectance is absent for a long period owing to persistent cloud/aerosol contaminations. The results indicate that the new Bi-LSTM deep learning model runs significantly faster than the GLASS V5 algorithm, avoids the reconstruction of surface reflectance data, and is resistant to the noises (cloud and snow contamination) or missing values contained in surface reflectance than other methods, as the Bi-LSTM can effectively extract information across the entire time series of surface reflectance rather than a single time point. To our knowledge, this is the first global time-series LAI product at the 250-m spatial resolution that is freely available to the public (www.geodata.cn and www.glass.umd.edu). Knowledge about and around Geographic Information Science and its associated system technologies (GIS) is complex, extensive and emerging rapidly. Taking the challenge, we built a GIS knowledge graph (GIS-KG) by (1) merging existing GIS bodies of knowledge to create a hierarchical ontology and then (2) applying deep-learning methods to map GIS publications to the ontology. We conducted several experiments on information retrieval to evaluate the novelty and effectiveness of the GIS-KG. Results showed the robust support of GIS-KG for knowledge search of existing GIS topics and potential to explore emerging research themes. [Termes IGN] trajet (mobilité)Résumé : (auteur) In the last decade, trajectory classification has received significant attention. The vast amount of data generated on social media, the use of sensor networks, IOT devices and other Internet-enabled sources allowed the semantic enrichment of mobility data, making the classification task more challenging. Existing trajectory classification methods have mainly considered space, time and numerical data, ignoring the semantic dimensions. Only recently proposed methods as Movelets and MASTERMovelets can handle all types of dimensions. MASTERMovelets is the only method that automatically discovers the best dimension combination and subtrajectory size for trajectory classification. However, although it outperformed the state-of-the-art in terms of accuracy, MASTERMovelets is computationally expensive and results in a high dimensionality problem, which makes it unfeasible for most real trajectory datasets that contain a big volume of data. To overcome this problem and enable the application of the movelets approach on large datasets, in this paper we propose a new high-performance method for extracting movelets and classifying trajectories, called HiPerMovelets (High-performance Movelets). Experimental results show that HiPerMovelets is 10 times faster than MASTERMovelets, reduces the high-dimensionality problem, is more scalable, and presents a high classification accuracy in all evaluated datasets with both raw and semantic trajectories.
