The multi-represented datasets contain different representations for identical real-world entities. Therefore, update propagation is useful and required for maintaining multi-represented datasets. The key to update propagation is the detection of identical features in different datasets that represent corresponding real-world entities and the detection of changes in updated datasets. Using polygon features of settlements as examples, this article addresses these key problems and proposes an approach for multi-represented feature matching based on spatial similarity and a back-propagation neural network (BPNN). Although this approach only utilizes the measures of distance, area, direction and length, it dynamically and objectively determines the weight of each measure through intelligent learning; in contrast, traditional approaches determine weight using expertise. Therefore, the weight may be variable in different data contexts but not for different levels of expertise. This approach can be applied not only to one-to-one matching but also to one-to-many and many-to-many matching. Experiments are designed using two different approaches and four datasets that encompass an area in China. The goals are to demonstrate the weight differences in different data contexts and to measure the performance of the BPNN-based feature matching approach. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Limited development ecological zones (LDEZs) are often located in poverty-stricken, ecologically vulnerable areas where ethnic minorities reside. Studies on optimal spatial land-use allocation in LDEZs can promote economic and intensive land use, improve soil quality, facilitate local socioeconomic development, and maintain environmental stability. In this study, we optimized spatial land-use allocations in an LDEZ using the geographic information system (GIS) and a genetic ant colony algorithm (GACA). The multi-objective function considers economic benefits and ecological green equivalents, and improves soil erosion. We developed the GACA by integrating a genetic algorithm (GA) with an ant colony algorithm (ACA). This avoids a large number of redundant iterations and the low efficiency of the GA, and the slow convergence speed of the ACA. The study area is located in Pengyang County, Ningxia, China, which is a typical LDEZ. The land-use data were interpreted from remote sensing (RS) images and GIS. We determined the optimal spatial land-use allocations in the LDEZ using the GACA in the GIS environment. We compared the original and optimal spatial schemes in terms of economic benefits, ecological green equivalents, and soil erosion. The results of the GACA were superior to the original allocation, the ACA, and the multi-objective genetic algorithm, in terms of the optimum, time, and robust performance indexes. We also present some suggestions for the reasonable development and protection of LDEZs. [Termes IGN] vectorisationRésumé : (auteur) This paper introduces an innovative automatic road-vectorisation algorithm based on dynamic pixel clustering using particle swarm optimisation. A new cost function is designed to optimise the number and position of road keypoints and is capable of deriving road centrelines without considering geometric, spectral or topological characteristics in the road model. The algorithm is applied to different high-resolution images (IKONOS, QuickBird and aerial photographs) and is evaluated with respect to RMSE, correctness and completeness. Moreover, a new quality parameter is defined to evaluate a “kinking” effect in roads. Extraction of different road shapes with an acceptable precision in both urban and rural environments proves the efficiency of the algorithm in yielding complete road networks. [Termes IGN] relation sémantiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Semantic integration has gained considerable attention in geographic information system (GIS) interoperability with the goal of conquering semantic heterogeneity. Over the past two decades, ontology engineering has been widely used to resolve semantic integration obstacles. However, most of the previous ontology integration approaches mainly focused on the same type of data with formal ontology. A key challenge is to identify the semantics of cross-domain data generated by different domains from their own perspectives. Given that formal ontology is not always available, this paper proposes a novel semi-automatic approach to determine the semantic relationship of cross-domain concepts based on lightweight ontologies. The semantics of each concept is presented by an extendable and structural definition framework composed of a number of resource description framework triple statements formed by common vocabularies extracted from the free-text definition of the concept. We further propose algorithms to compare the structural definition of concepts and to determine the semantic relationship of concepts between different domains. Finally, the semantic relationship of concepts from different domains is formally presented by the bridge ontology to serve future application needs. The bridge ontology of two GIS-based data, topographic map data and land use data, was developed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach. The preliminary result shows a faithful and highly automatic semantic integration for cross-domain data.
