With platforms allowing archaeologists to link, query, and analyse in a virtual, georeferenced space information collected by different specialists, the book highlights how it is possible to re-think aspects of theory and practice which relate to GIS. It explores which questions can be addressed in such a new environment and how they are going to impact the way we interpret the past. By using material from several international case studies such as Pompeii, Çatalhöyük, as well as prehistoric and protohistoric sites in Southern Scandinavia, this book discusses the use of the third dimension in support of archaeological practice. This book will be essential for researchers and scholars who focus on archaeology and spatial analysis, and is designed and structured to serve as a textbook for GIS and digital archaeology courses. [Termes IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) The importance of geospatial data has rendered it to be used in decision-making in both public and private sectors. The purpose of this study was to employ Semantic Web Technology (SWT) for the problems of Web Service Composition (WSC) in the context of Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). Some of these problems are identifying the workflow sequence and the user goal, discovering services according to service parameters, and matching these parameters. As a suggestion for the solution of all these problems a semi-automated WSC architecture was proposed in this study. In terms of architecture, users state their ‘goal’ with a natural language sentence. By semantically matching this sentence with a Spatial Services Ontology (SSO), the corresponding ‘abstract’ WSC was ‘located’ and the ‘concrete’ WSC was formed. Although there are still problems waiting to be solved due to the scope of the work, this study makes a valuable contribution to the area. [Termes IGN] réseau sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) ATONTE (ATlantis methodology for ONtology development from Texts and Experts) is a methodology for the manual development of low-level seed ontologies. The modelling process is based on a combination of knowledge from non-fiction text corpora such as manuals, information guides or sets of instructions, and the knowledge of domain experts. This article presents the five key steps of the ATONTE process. Seed ontologies created with ATONTE can be used to develop and populate knowledge graphs for use in specific applications within given technical domains. [Termes IGN] service fondé sur la positionRésumé : (auteur) Address matching continues to play a central role at various levels, through geocoding and data integration from different sources, with a view to promote activities such as urban planning, location-based services, and the construction of databases like those used in census operations. However, the task of address matching continues to face several challenges, such as non-standard or incomplete address records or addresses written in more complex languages. In order to better understand how current limitations can be overcome, this paper conducted a systematic literature review focused on automated approaches to address matching and their evolution across time. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed, resulting in a final set of 41 papers published between 2002 and 2021, the great majority of which are after 2017, with Chinese authors leading the way. The main findings revealed a consistent move from more traditional approaches to deep learning methods based on semantics, encoder-decoder architectures, and attention mechanisms, as well as the very recent adoption of hybrid approaches making an increased use of spatial constraints and entities. The adoption of evolutionary-based approaches and privacy preserving methods stand as some of the research gaps to address in future studies.
