[Termes IGN] thermographie aérienneRésumé : (Auteur) Thermal infrared Multispectral Scanner (TIMS) data were collected at a resolution of 5 to 10 m from a tropical rain forest over an elevation gradient from 35 to 2700 m in the Braulio Carrillo National Park in Costa Rica. Flight lines were repeated with a 15 to 30 minute time difference for measurement of forest canopy thermal response over time. Concurrent radiosonde measurements of atmospheric profiles of air temperature and moisture provided inputs to LOWTRAN6 for atmospheric radiance corrections of the TIMS data. Techniques for using calibrated aircraft-based thermal scanner data to examine tropical forest canopy thermal properties are described. Forest canopy temperature changes over time assessed between repeated, duplicated flight lines were combined with estimates of surface radiative energy measurements from towers above the forest canopy to determine temperature spatial variability, calculate Thermal Response Numbers (TRN), and estimate evapotranspiration along the elevation gradient from selected one hectare forest inventory plots. [Termes IGN] rayonnement infrarouge thermiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This research was conducted to assess the utility of Landsat Thematic Mapper thermal data (10-4 to 12-5um) for urban feature analysis. Seven band thematic mapper data collected on 25 October, 1982 for the Chicago metropolitan area were used to determine the relative importance of the thermal band as a component of an urban land use classification. Analysis consisted of: (1) the use of a transformed divergence measure (separability) to test the interclass spectral variability of selected features for different channel combinations and (2) a comparison of classification results, with and without thermal data using a supervised layered classification algorithm. The use of thermal data resulted in an overall 9-3 per cent increase in classification accuracy. Elimination of classes such as forest, asphalt and railroad resulted in an increase of 12-0 per cent in classification performance. Examination of the separability analysis and classification results indicated there were specific areas of success resulting from the use of thermal data. Increased classification accuracy occurred in several classes such as shadow (+ 36-7 per cent), residential (+ 41-1 per cent), active industry (+ 20-0 per cent) and commercial industrial fringe (+ 77-1 per cent). These results demonstrated that the information content of thermal data was valuable for urban area analysis. [Termes IGN] thermographie aérienneIndex. décimale : CG1989 Actes de congrès en 1989 Résumé : (Auteur) As Thermosense enters its second decade as a conference dedicated to the practical use of infrared thermography, a sense of maturity and evolution can be seen in many of the papers presented, while others are clearly cutting the leading edge of new applications. Session 1, chaired by Sharon Semanovich and Gary Weil, covers the mature technology of building and structures thermography. Once again an evening workshop is planned, which is always an enlightening two-way technical exchange and usually an open forum for discussing standards, guidelines, and training in this technology. Session 2, chaired by Dick Brooks and Terry Harter, this year reflects the use of thermography in the power generation field, particularly nuclear power. In order to allow attendees to sit in on as many workshops as possible, Session 2 is immediately followed by a Facilities and Utilities Workshop. Session 3, chaired by Elliot Rittenburg, covers process and product monitoring. More and more applications in this area are being developed for monitoring and control. We appreciate the participation of the authors in this area, particularly in light of the often proprietary nature of these applications. Session 4, chaired by Herb Kaplan and Bob Madding, focuses on the very 'vertical' application of electronics and microelectronics. This technology has particularly matured over the past 5 years, and thermosense has played a major role in technology transfer in this area. This session also has an evening workshop where attendees can share and learn about this important application. Session 5, on standards and ethics, chaired by George Baird, was moved this year from the beginning of the conference to the middle in an effort to have maximum attendance on this important topic. Also new this year is a workshop on Problem Solving, which will be led by Bob Madding. It is hoped that attendees will bring to this workshop their problems, difficulties, and experiences dealing with such topics as temperature measurement, spectral response, calibration, or simply making an application work. Session 6, on research and development, chaired by Jan Eklund, has grown every year to the point where it has become the largest session. The diversity of papers to be presented is a window on the commercial applications of thermography in the '90s. Note de contenu : SESSION 1 - BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES
