[Termes IGN] mouvement de terrainRésumé : (Auteur) Remote sensing is an efficient tool for temporal monitoring of inaccessible alpine glacial terrain. This study discusses the methods of remote sensing in visible and infrared (IR) wavelengths, which are helpful in providing important information about alpine glaciers. The scope of this study covers recent advances and prospects in optical and thermal remote sensing of glacier facies, glacier velocity, mass balance, glacial hazards and automated mapping techniques. The technology is ever evolving with the advent of new remote sensors capturing data in visible/IR wavelengths and better digital computing technology. An extensive list of significant studies further helps the reader to explore a particular topic of interest. We survey recent advances in this field and additionally highlight the emerging prospects. [Termes IGN] réflectance spectraleRésumé : (auteur) After atmospheric correction, an algorithm for the removal of thin cirrus cloud as well as alto-thin clouds or thin clouds collectively within visible and near infrared bands (Bands 1 through 5) of Landsat-8 was developed. The algorithm removed cirrus clouds using Band 9 first, and the remaining thin clouds using quality assurance (QA) band. Using a Landsat-8 sub-image of 129/39 (path/row) acquired on 16 December 2013, we evaluated the algorithm. Thin clouds disappeared visually. Reflectance values of Bands 1 through 4 decreased in both steps. Reflectance values of Band 5 decreased in step one, and then stayed the same. With a nearly cloud-free image acquired on 30 November 2013 as the “truth,” the spatial correlation coefficients of cloud-covered pixels within the December image were 0.84 or higher. Changes in reflectance values of Bands 1 to 5, and the high correlation coefficient values indicated the validity of the algorithm. [Termes IGN] image WorldviewRésumé : (Auteur) Worldview-3 is the first commercial satellite to have 16 high-resolution spectral bands that capture information in the visible and Near-infrared (VNIR), and shortwave infrared (SWIR) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS). We look at how its super spectral capability sets a new standard for satellite imagery and how its benefits are being realised. [Termes IGN] Tamarix (genre)Résumé : (auteur) Defoliation by the northern tamarisk beetle (Diorhabda carinulata) causes changes in the reflectance of tamarisk (Tamarix spp.) canopies. Cross correlogram spectral matching was used to examine spectral separability of green, yellow desiccated, brown desiccated, and dead tamarisk canopy types. Using a feature selection technique (the instability index), four spectral regions were identified as important for canopy type discrimination, including one red (645-693 nm), one near infrared (735-946 nm), and two shortwave infrared regions (1,960-2,090 nm and 2,400-2,478 nm). The random forests decision tree algorithm was used to compare classification performances of full-range and feature-selected hyperspectral spectra as well as simulated WorldView-2 spectra. Classification results indicated that the process of feature selection can reduce data redundancy and computation time while improving accuracy of tamarisk canopy type classification. [Termes IGN] Utah (Etas-Unis)Résumé : (auteur) This research presents a new semi-automatic model for converting raw AggieAir™ footprints in visible and near-infrared (Nin) bands into reflectance images. AggieAir, a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platform, is flown autonomously using pre-programmed flight plans at low altitudes to limit atmospheric effects. The UAV acquires high-resolution, multispectral images and has a flight duration of about 30 minutes. The sensors on board are twin cameras with duplicate settings and automatic mode disabled. A white Barium Sulfate (BaSO4j panel is used for reflectance calibration and in situ irradiance measurements. The spatial resolution of the imagery is 25 cm; the radiometric resolution is 8-bit. The raw images are mosaicked and orthorectified and the model converts their digital numbers (DN) to reflectance values. Imagery, acquired around local solar noon over wetlands on the Great Salt Lake. Utah, is used to illustrate the results. The model generates high quality images and the results are good. The reflectance values of vegetation in the NIR, Green and Red hands extracted at the test locations are consistent. The image processing, reflectance calculations, accuracy issues, with the proposed method are discussed.
