[Termes IGN] terrainRésumé : (Auteur) This paper investigates the combination of metric aerial photography and near-infrared (NIR) videography data to improve the design of field-survey sampling frameworks. Spatial data collection can contribute up to 80% of the cost of deploying a Geographic Information System (GIS) based Decision Support System (DSS). The use of remotely sensed information, field survey using differential Global Positioning System (dGPS) and geostatistical interpolation methods maximises data quality for a given rate of sampling.
Medium-format colour aerial photography and NIR videography were orthorectified to the national map base and mosaiced using ERDAS Imagine. The green and red layers of the aerial photography were combined with the NIR videography to form a false-colour composite image. Two sampling strategies were tested. The first stratified sampling on a per field basis, creating four points per hectare, randomly located within each field. The second strategy used the remotely sensed information to identify within-field variability classes for each field, using red-green difference or normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) models. These variability classes were used as a sub-stratification framework with each class sampled at the same rate of 4 per hectare. For both strategies the sample points were generated within ESRI ArcView and were located in the field using dGPS. Maps of stone content were created using geostatistical methods and validated against samples collected on a 100 metre grid. It was concluded that combining the two image sources to create a within-field stratification framework improved the precision of the results obtained from field-survey.Numéro de notice : A2003-376 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/10106040308542285 Date de publication en ligne : 02/01/2008 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1080/10106040308542285 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26456

SPOT4-Vegetafion 10-day composites from 1998 to 2000 were used for the generation of a cloud free sub-regional mosaic image. Pixel selection was based on minimum values in the short-wave (monthly composites) and near-infrared spectral bands (annual composites), providing a maximum discrimination between forest and non-forest. A forest cover map was derived from digital classification of the dataset. The classification result was validated by comparison with the interpretation of 19 Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) reference sites distributed over the sub-region. Forest area estimates were derived from the map and compared to Forest Resources Assessment 2000 data compiled by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Results show that the new coarse resolution satellite sensor can provide sufficient information for mapping of tropical forest cover at the regional and sub-regional level. [Termes IGN] volcanologieRésumé : (Auteur) Advanced Land Imager (ALI), Advanced SpaceThermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER), and Hyperion imaging spectrometer data covering an area in the Central Andes between Volcan Socompa and Salar de Llullaillaco were used to map hydrothermally altered rocks associated with young volcanic systems. Six ALI channels in the visible and near-infrared wavelength range (0.4-1.0 um) were useful discriminating between ferric-iron alteration minerals based on the spectral shapes of electronic absorption features seen in continuum-removed spectra. Six ASTER channels in the short wavelength infrared (1.0-2.5 um) enabled distinctions between clay and sulfate mineral types based on the positions of band related to Al-OH vibrational absorption features. Hypeimagery embedded in the broader image coverage of ALI and ASTER provided essential leverage for calibrating and improving the mapping accuracy of the multispectral data. This capability is especially valuable in remote areas of the earth where available geologic and other ground truth information is limited. [Termes IGN] Thematic MapperRésumé : (Auteur) The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Landsat program has been dedicated to sustaining data continuity over the 20-year period during which Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and Enhanced TM Plus (ETM+) sensors have been acquiring images of the earth's surface. In 2000, NASA launched the Earth Observing1 (EO1) Advanced Land Imager (ALI) to test new technology that could improve the TM/ETM+ sensor series, yet ensure Landsat data continuity. The study reported here quantified the continuity of satelliteretrieved surface reflectance () for the three most recent Landsat sensors (Landsat-4 TM, Landsat-5 TM, and Landsat-7 ETM+) and the EO-1 ALI sensor. The study was based on grounddata verification and, in the case of the ETM+ to ALI comparison, coincident image analysis. Reflectance retrieved from all four sensors showed good correlation with groundmeasured reflectance, and the sensortosensor data continuity was excellent for all sensors and all bands. A qualitative analysis of the new ALI spectral bands (4p: 0.845-0.890 um and 5p: 1.201.30 um) showed that ALI band 5p provided information that was different from that provided by the ETM+/ALI shortwave infrared bands 5 and 7 for agricultural targets and that ALI band 4p has the advantage over the existing ETM+ nearinfrared (NIR) band 4 and ALI NIR band 4 of being relatively insensitive to water vapor absorption. The. basic conclusion of this study is that the four sensors can provide excellent data continuity for temporal studies of natural resources. Furthermore, the new technologies put forward by the EO1 ALI sensor have had no apparent effect on data continuity and should be considered for the upcoming Landsat8 sensor payload.
