[Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (auteur) Using the observations from local and regional GPS networks, the estimation of slant wet delays (SWDs) is possible for each line of sight between satellite and receiver. The observations of SWD are used to model horizontal and vertical variations of the wet refractivity in the atmosphere above the study area. This work is done using the tomography method. In tomography, the horizontal variations of tropospheric wet refractivity are modeled with the polynomial in degree and rank of 2 with latitude and longitude as variables. Also, altitude variations are modeled in the form of discrete layers with constant heights. The main innovation is to estimate the tropospheric parameters for each line of sight by the artificial neural networks (ANNs). The SWD obtained from GPS observations for the different signals at each station is compared with the SWD generated by the ANNs (SWDGPS–SWDANNs). The square of the difference between these two values is introduced as the cost function in the ANNs. To evaluate, we used observations from October 27 to 31, 2011. The availability of GPS and radiosonde data is the main reason for choosing this timeframe. The correlation coefficient, root mean square error (RMSE), and relative error allow for evaluation of the proposed model. The results were also compared with the results of the voxel-based troposphere tomography method. For a more detailed evaluation, four test stations are selected and ANN zenith wet delays (ZWDANN) are compared with the ZWDGPS. Observations of test stations are not used in the modeling step. The correlation coefficient in the testing step for TomoANN and Tomovoxel is 0.9006 and 0.8863, respectively. The mean RMSE at 5 days for TomoANN and Tomovoxel is calculated as 0.63 and 0.71 mm/km, respectively. Also, the average relative error at the four test stations for TomoANN is 15.37% and for Tomovoxel it is 19.69%. The results demonstrate the better capability of the proposed method in the modeling of the tropospheric wet refractivity in the region of Iran. [Termes IGN] vapeur d'eauRésumé : (auteur) In this article, a methodology to retrieve the precipitable water vapor (PWV) from a differential interferometric time series is presented. We used external data provided by atmospheric weather models (e.g., ERA-Interim reanalysis) to constrain the initial state and by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to phase ambiguities elimination introduced by phase unwrapping algorithm. An iterative least-square is then used to solve the optimization problem. We applied the presented methodology to two time series of differential PWV maps estimated from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by the Sentinel-1A, over the southwest part of the Appalachian Mountains (USA). The results were validated using an independent GNSS data set and also compared with atmospheric weather prediction data. The GNSS PWV observations show a strong correlation with the estimated PWV maps with a root-mean-square error less than 1 mm. These results are very encouraging, particularly for the meteorology community, providing crucial information to assimilate into numerical weather models and potentially improve the forecasts. [Termes IGN] vapeur d'eauRésumé : (Editeur) [Introduction] The book (COST Action Final report) summarises the proceedings from COST Action ES1206. COST Action ES1206, Advanced GNSS Tropospheric Products for Severe Weather Events and Climate (GNSS4SWEC), was a 4-year project, running from 2013 to 2017, which coordinated new and improved capabilities from concurrent developments in GNSS, meteorological and climate communities. For the first time, the synergy of multi-GNSS constellations was used to develop new, more advanced tropospheric products, exploiting the full potential of multi-GNSS on a wide range of temporal and spatial scales - from real-time products monitoring and forecasting severe weather, to the highest quality post-processed products suitable for climate research. The Action also promoted the use of meteorological data as an input to real-time GNSS positioning, navigation, and timing services and has stimulated knowledge and data transfer throughout Europe and beyond. [Termes IGN] vapeur d'eauRésumé : (auteur) SARAL carried onboard a radar altimeter that provides very precise measurements of the sea surface height (SSH). Like other altimetric missions, SARAL carries a passive microwave radiometer (PMR) for wet tropospheric correction to SSH. In the present study, new algorithms are developed for the retrieval of cloud liquid water (CLW) and total precipitable water vapor (TPW) over the global oceans from PMR measurements of the brightness temperatures. A radiative transfer and genetic algorithm based retrieval scheme is proposed for the estimation of CLW and TPW from SARAL PMR. The comparisons of CLW from PMR with independent measurements from GPM-GMI and SSMIS within and outside ±40° latitudes show correlation (R) of 0.86 and 0.83, bias of 0.7 and −3.61 mg/cm2, and root mean square error (RMSE) of 8.42 and 8.07 mg/cm2, respectively. Similarly, TPW from PMR with GPM-GMI and SSMIS show R of 0.99 and 0.98, bias of −0.04 and −0.03 g/cm2 and RMSE of 0.17 and 0.17 g/cm2, respectively. The retrieval accuracy of CLW and TPW from the new algorithms is compared with these parameters provided in the SARAL geophysical data records as finished products, which showed substantial improvement in the quality of the parameters from the new algorithm.
