[Termes IGN] voie ferréeRésumé : (auteur) Recent developments in the field of rail vehicles increased the demand for accurate and up-to-date 3D maps of rail track networks. Collision avoidance systems, semi-automated, or fully autonomous rail vehicles strongly benefit from such high quality maps. In this work, we present a fully automatic, photogrammetric method for the 3D reconstruction of rail track segments. More specifically, the center line of the rail track is reconstructed as a georeferenced and continuous 3D cubic spline. The main data inputs are collected while driving the rail vehicle along the segment: (a) images from a front-looking camera and (b) observations from a low-cost GNSS receiver. Optional data inputs can be used to increase the reconstruction accuracy, namely (c) an a priori rail track (e.g. from OpenStreetMap), (d) a digital height model (DHM), and (e) ground control points (GCPs). The rail track is estimated in post processing (offline) by a weighted least squares adjustment (LSA). The core of the LSA is the bundle adjustment of images. It is extended by additional geometric constraints which exploit the geometric relations between the rail track, the rail vehicle, and the camera trajectory. As a consequence, in contrast to many related methods, the rails need not to be visible in the images to map the rail track. We applied the method to reconstruct a 13 km long tram line in Vienna (Austria). We found that the local geometry of the track can be well reconstructed from the image sequence. However, if the low-cost GNSS receiver is used as single georeferencing source, the track shows a strong drift behavior. This drift can significantly be minimized over the entire track if the above mentioned optional data inputs are used. [Termes IGN] télémètre laser aéroportéRésumé : (auteur) Sensors for environmental perception are nowadays applied in numerous vehicles and are expected to be used in even higher quantities for future autonomous driving. This leads to an increasing amount of observation data that must be processed reliably and accurately very quickly. For this purpose, recursive approaches are particularly suitable in terms of their efficiency when powerful CPUs and GPUs are uneconomical, too large, or too heavy for certain applications. If explicit functional relationships between the available observations and the requested parameters are used to process and adjust the observation data, complementary approaches exist. The situation is different for implicit relationships, which could not be considered recursively for a long time but only in the context of batch adjustments. In this contribution, a recursive Gauss-Helmert model is presented that can handle explicit and implicit equations and thus allows high flexibility. This recursive estimator is based on a Kalman filter for implicit measurement equations, which has already been used for georeferencing kinematic multi-sensor systems (MSS) in urban environments. Furthermore, different methods for introducing additional information using constraints and the resulting added value are shown. Practical application of the methodology is given by an example for the calibration of a laser scanner for a MSS. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (auteur) Seasonal and annual water supplies of the rivers originating in the Hindukush-Karakoram-Himalaya (HKH) region of Pakistan are important to manage the Indus basin irrigation system for better agricultural production and its dependent agrarian economy. In this study, we simulated the current and future snowmelt runoff in a poorly gauged river basin of the Hindukush region under Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) climate change scenarios. Snowmelt Runoff Model (SRM) furnished with satellite snow cover maps and hydro-meteorological data were used to simulate the daily river discharge for the period 2000‒2005. The results indicated that SRM has effectually simulated the runoff in Chitral River with Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficient of 0.85 (0.84) and 0.88 (0.83) in the basin-wide (zone-wise) application during the calibration and validation periods, respectively. The results obtained under future climate change scenario showed ∼14‒19% increase in mean summer discharge under three mid-21st century RCP (2.6, 4.5 and 8.5) scenarios. While an increase of ∼13‒37% is expected under late-21st century RCP scenarios. This study can help water resource managers to plan and manage peak discharges from the Chitral River Basin in the future and can thus prevent major losses due to floods in the area. However, with recent advances in photogrammetry and Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms for image processing and interpretation, an increasing number of applications are now feasible. The article presents the TIME (hisTorical aerIal iMagEs) benchmark (https://time.fbk.eu/), promoted by EuroSDR to explore the potential of historical aerial images. Realized in collaboration with various European NMCAs, the benchmark has garnered aerial image blocks and time series imagery captured since the 1950s. To support the photogrammetric processing of the digitized photos, ancillary data are supplied with available information about flight missions, taking cameras, and ground control points (GCPs). Several diverse investigations have been undertaken with the benchmark datasets, all captured over historical urban areas or landscapes. The paper describes the benchmark datasets and some potential research topics, presenting several tests and analyses realized with the collated and shared data. We investigated rockfalls in Ischia using STONE, a three-dimensional model for simulating trajectories for given detachment locations of blocks. We propose methodological advances regarding the use of high-resolution LiDAR elevation data, the localization of possible detachments sources, and the inclusion of scenario-based seismic shaking as a trigger for rockfalls. We demonstrated that raw LiDAR data are useful to distinguish areas covered by tall vegetation, allowing realistic simulation of trajectories. We found that the areas most susceptibile to rockfalls are located along the N, N-W and S-W steep flanks of Mt. Epomeo, the S and S-W coast, and the sides of some steep exposed hydrographic channels located in the southern sector of the island. A novel procedure for dynamic activation of sources depending on ground shaking, in the event of an earthquake, helped inferring a seismically-triggered source map and the corresponding rockfall trajectories, for a scenario with 475 y return time. Thus, we obtained preliminary rockfall suceptibility in Ischia both in a “static” (trigger-independent) scenario, and in a seismic shaking triggering scenario. They must not be considered a risk map, but a starting point for a detailed field analysis.
