[Termes IGN] Virginie (Etats-Unis)Résumé : (auteur) Increasing urbanization and suburban growth in cities globally has highlighted the importance of land planning using detailed geomorphologic maps that depict anthropogenic landform changes. Such mapping provides information crucial for land management, hazard identification, and the management of the challenges arising from urbanization. The development and use of quantitative and repeatable methods to map anthropogenic and natural processes are required to advance the science of urban geomorphological mapping. This study investigated the application of geospatial modeling, structure-from-motion (SfM) photogrammetric methods and DEM differencing as means of quantifying anthropogenic landform changes from archival aerial imagery. Anthropogenic landforms were incorporated into a detailed geomorphologic map in an urbanizing watershed located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan suburb of Vienna, Virginia. [Termes IGN] tessellationRésumé : (auteur) The Canadian Digital Elevation Model (CDEM) and the High-Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) released by Natural Resources Canada are primary terrain data sources in Canada. Due to their different coverage, datums, resolutions, and accuracies, a standardized framework for national elevation data across various scales is required. This study provides new insights into the adoption of Discrete Global Grid Systems (DGGS) to facilitate the integration of multi-source terrain data at various granularities. In particular, the Icosahedral Snyder Equal Area Aperture 3 Hexagonal Grid (ISEA3H) was employed, and quantization, integration, and aggregation were conducted on this framework. To demonstrate the modeling process, an experiment was undertaken for two areas in Ontario, taking advantage of parallel computing which was beneficial from the discreteness of DGGS cells. The accuracy of the modeled elevations was estimated by referring to the ground-surveyed values and was included in the spatially referenced metadata as an indicator of data quality. This research can serve as a guide for future development of a national elevation service, providing consistent, multi-resolution elevations and avoiding complex, duplicated pre-processing at the user’s end. Future investigation into an operational integration platform to support real-world decision-making, as well as the DGGS-powered geospatial datacube, is recommended. [Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (auteur) The traditional hill-shading map is usually produced from a digital elevation model (DEM) by using the method of hypsometric tinting, which is capable of demonstrating the changes in geomorphology by setting the colors for hill-shading. However, the disadvantage is obvious that the surface features of the terrain can only be utilized by putting vector data on the map. Hence, the terrain display effect will be altered, especially in the production of large-scale maps, for which the artistic effect will be greatly weakened. This paper proposes a solution to this problem. First, we transform the RGB color space of the Digital orthophotographic map (DOM) image into the intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) color space. Then, we calculate the new value of the intensity as I′ for each pixel of the shaded relief model (SRM) of the high-resolution remote sensing image. Finally, we replace the component I with the new component I′ and then proceed with the inverse IHS transform. The case study shows that an objective representation of the actual situation is presented in the mapping area, and the 3D performance capabilities are enhanced. This research indicates that when the method of fusing the processed SRM with the IHS color system is used, the optimum index factor (OIF) and entropy of the generated map are 41.26 and 12.05, respectively, which are much greater than for the results of the traditional method. In other words, the proposed method can greatly enhance the terrain effect. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) The aim of the paper is to identify a suitable method for the construction of a 3D city model from stereo satellite imagery. In order to reach this goal, it is necessary to build a workflow consisting of three main steps: (1) Increasing the geometric resolution of the color images through the use of pan-sharpening techniques, (2) identification of the buildings’ footprint through deep-learning techniques and, finally, (3) building an algorithm in GIS (Geographic Information System) for the extraction of the elevation of buildings. The developed method was applied to stereo imagery acquired by WorldView-2 (WV-2), a commercial Earth-observation satellite. The comparison of the different pan-sharpening techniques showed that the Gram–Schmidt method provided better-quality color images than the other techniques examined; this result was deduced from both the visual analysis of the orthophotos and the analysis of quality indices (RMSE, RASE and ERGAS). Subsequently, a deep-learning technique was applied for pan sharpening an image in order to extract the footprint of buildings. Performance indices (precision, recall, overall accuracy and the F1measure) showed an elevated accuracy in automatic recognition of the buildings. Finally, starting from the Digital Surface Model (DSM) generated by satellite imagery, an algorithm built in the GIS environment allowed the extraction of the building height from the elevation model. In this way, it was possible to build a 3D city model where the buildings are represented as prismatic solids with flat roofs, in a fast and precise way. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (auteur) The use of digital representations of physical objects allows to simulate phenomena and predict behaviours. The representativeness of a model is based on the congruency between the code, the survey and the modelling strategies. In terms of physical space, two important approaches are the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM). GIS approach is intended to code environmental information based on geographical references. BIM approach is intended to code buildings in terms of their components, generating parametric descriptions. For historic buildings, BIM extends to the so-called Historical BIM models (HBIM). Together, these strategies allow coding territorial-scale entities, such as historical centres. An application for these models would be the simulation of risk situations, leading to vulnerability analysis. Despite the existence of GIS-BIM-HBIM integration examples, most of their procedures are designed to fit with a specific case study, which questions the suitability of a general coding framework. This paper presents a vision of state-of-the-art technologies and strategies for coding, surveying and model historical centres, with emphases on the analysis of urban vulnerability and risk. Finally, we propose a general comprehensive framework on the convergences of GIS-BIM-HBIM technologies and successful practices.
