[Termes IGN] similitudeRésumé : (Auteur) As large amounts of trajectories from a wide variety of Volunteered Geographic Information (referred to as VGI) contributors pour into the spatial database, the geometric qualities of the VGI road networks generated from these trajectories are different from the ground truth road dataset and so need to be differently assessed. To address this issue, an assessment approach based on symmetric arc similarity is proposed, and the geometric quality of a VGI road network is assessed by its conformity with the corresponding ground truth road network, the results being visualized as hierarchical thematic maps. To compute the conformity, the geometric similarity between the VGI road arc and the corresponding ground truth road arc, which is selected by the adaptive searching distance, is measured based on the symmetric arc similarity method; the geometric quality is assessed based on an assessment matrix. Also, the symmetric arc similarity method is independent of directions and with a feature of shift-independence, which is applicable to assess the geometric qualities of different VGI road networks and makes the assessment result consistent with the actual situation of the real world. The robustness and scalability of the approach are examined using VGI road networks from different sources. [Termes IGN] utilisateurRésumé : (Auteur) In current navigation systems quantitative metrics such as distance, time and energy are used to determine optimal paths. Yet, a “best path”, as judged by users, might take qualitative features into account, for instance the scenery or the touristic attractiveness of a path. Machines are unable to quantify such “soft” properties. Crowdsourced data provides us with a means to record user choices and opinions. In this work, we survey heterogeneous sources of spatial, spatio-temporal and textual crowdsourced data as a proxy for qualitative information of users in movement. We (i) explore the process of extracting qualitative information from uncertain crowdsourced data sets employing different techniques, (ii) investigate the enrichment of road networks with the extracted information by adjusting its properties and by building a meta-network, and (iii) show how to use the enriched networks for routing purposes. An extensive experimental evaluation of our proposed methods on real-world data sets shows that qualitative properties as captured by crowdsourced data can indeed be used to improve the quality of routing suggestions while not sacrificing their quantitative aspects. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) data is increasingly used in urban stormwater modeling. The undirected use of such data may waste economic and human resources. In order to provide guidance for practitioners to efficiently use different data collection resources, as well as give a reference for future works, this paper aims to assess the effects of using free access GIS data and ad hoc RS data on urban 2D–1D stormwater modeling. The 2D-surface Two-dimensional Runoff, Erosion, and Export model (TREX) model was published in Science of the Total Environment in 2008. The 1D-sewer CANOE (Logiciel intégré de conception et de diagnostic des réseaux d’assainissement) model was published in Journal of Hydrology in 2004. The two models are integrated in the TRENOE (TREX-CANOE) platform. The modeling approach is applied to a small urban catchment near Paris (Le Perreux sur Marne, 0.12 km2). Simulation results reveal that the detailed land-use information derived from multiple data sources is a crucial factor for accurate simulations. Nevertheless, using the very high resolution LiDAR (light detection and ranging) data is not equally significant for the water flow simulations at sewage outlets. Finally, we suggest that using the free access GIS data accompanying the urban sewer network design might be an acceptable low-cost solution for accurate urban 2D–1D stormwater modeling during moderate rainfall events. Further studies of urban stormwater modeling could focus on the development of “suitable” models with “enough” input data, depending on the management/research objectives.
