[Termes IGN] qualité géométrique (image)Résumé : (Auteur) Accuracy and reliability are two popular indicators for assessment of the quality of aerial triangulation. This paper explores these quality indicators in relation to GPS-supported bundle block adjustment based on aerial digital frame imagery with GPS navigation data. A set of aerial digital frame imagery, taken over hilly terrain using an SWDC-4 area-array digital camera made in China, was selected and used. These empirical images have superior resolution with a pixel size of 9 um, with a ground sample distance of 10 cm and larger than traditional overlaps (80% longitudinal and 63% lateral). GPS-supported bundle block adjustment was carried out with the WuCAPS high-precision combined bundle block adjustment software package developed by the author. The achieved a posteriori standard deviation (rms errors of observation residuals) of the image coordinates is +3·7 um. The empirical accuracy of the photogrammetric point coordinates reaches +7·1 cm for planimetry and +4·8 cm for elevation on the ground, and the average redundancies (average components of the redundancy for one kind of observation) of the image coordinates and the camera station coordinates determined via GPS are more than 0·74 and 0·69, respectively. These results have shown that GPS-supported aerial triangulation with aerial digital frame imagery provides higher precision and reliability; the practical height accuracy is close to its theoretical possibility; also, it avoids the use of the cross strips and lines of ground height control points on each side of the adjusted block. This not only changes the present situation, in which height accuracy is always lower than the planimetric accuracy in aerial triangulation of aerial film images, but also opens up a new prospect in which the orientation points for models for stereoplotting need not be determined by full field surveying for topographic mapping of reasonably flat terrain at medium and large scales. Therefore, this paper provides an operational basis for a broad range of applications for aerial digital imagery in national basic surveying and mapping, and the rapid production and updating of geographic information in general. [Termes IGN] photogrammétrie métrologiqueIndex. décimale : 33.30 Photogrammétrie numérique Résumé : (Editeur) The third edition is an "all-in-one" combination of basic theory and practical exercises. Potential readers/users are students of Photogrammetry, Geodesy, Geography and other sciences, but also all who are interested in this topic. No prior knowledge is necessary, except the handling of standard PCs. Theory is presented true to the motto "as little as possible, but as much as necessary". The main part of the book contains several tutorials. In increasing complexity, accompanied by texts explaining further theory, the reader can proceed step by step through the particular working parts. All intermediate as well as the final results are discussed with reference to accuracy and error handling. Most of the standard work in Digital Photogrammetry is shown and trained for example scanning, image orientation, mono and stereo plotting, aerial triangulation measurement (manual and automatic), block adjustment, automatic creation of surface models via image matching, creation of ortho images and mosaics, and others. Not only standard situations are dealt with but also more complex ones, such as unknown camera data, extreme relief or areas with very low contrast. Examples of both aerial and close-range photogrammetry present the power of these type of measurement techniques. The software is not limited to the example data included but may be used for personal projects. Part of the book comprises a complete description of the software. Note de contenu : 1 Introduction

[Termes IGN] résiduRésumé : (Auteur) Since the advent of the first large format digital aerial cameras, high expectations have been placed on their performance. The dream of obtaining aerial images virtually free of geometric errors and with greater radiometric quality is getting close. Nevertheless, systematic image residuals, unexpected height errors in aerial triangulation and the need for additional self-calibration parameters have been reported since 2005. In this paper a preliminary analysis of the theoretical accuracies in aerial triangulation using the Zeiss/Intergraph (Z/I) Digital Mapping Camera (DMC) and an analogue camera is conducted, motivated by those recent reports. This analysis considers a mathematical model where the image has conical geometry and is free of systematic errors. The influence on the propagated block accuracy of the base-to-height ratio, image pointing precision (both manual and automatic), GPS observations for projection centres and of pass/tie point density is studied. Moreover, the expected accuracy in the aerial triangulation of analogue images using current procedures (having regard to the a priori accuracy for image pointing, ground control measurement and GPS and pass/tie point density) is computed. The goal of this theoretical study is to find the requirements for aerial triangulation with DMC data which would yield the same or an even higher level of accuracy than that obtained with analogue data under the same conditions. The paper continues with a check on the conclusions of this theoretical analysis, using real data-sets and aerial triangulation set-up, which fit with the theoretical analysis. The results prove that the expected theoretical accuracy in aerial triangulation is only obtained if an appropriate self-calibration parameter set is considered in the bundle block adjustment and/or if good GPS observations are available. These requirements result from the unfavourable propagation from unmodelled systematic error in the DMC image blocks. Some authors have detected systematic residuals in the order of one-tenth of a pixel rms in DMC image space. For this reason, investigations are being carried out on systematic error characterisation, distribution in image space and stability over time and flying height, and systematic error modelling, using self-calibration parameter sets and applying correction grids. Finally, conclusions are drawn from the investigations. Note de contenu : Introduction
