[Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) Integrated multi-sensor systems, with their major progress in terms of sensor resolution, data rate and operational flexibility, have become a very attractive mapping tool over the last decade. In aerial mapping application, for example, Exterior Orientation (EO) parameters for the imaging sensors are required. Using the integrated Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) with Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), direct determination of the EO parameters can be obtained from the integrated system navigation solution. This process is referred to as Direct Georeferencing (DG). DG provides substantial benefits over the indirect determination method of estimating the EO parameters from conventional Aerial Triangulation (AT) techniques using a block of images with a sufficient number of known control points. These benefits include the ability to map remote and inaccessible regions, and by replacing tie point measurements/matching and AT, significant cost-savings can be obtained for projects that do not require stereo models (such as projects with existing DEM or single image). The accuracy of DG, however, is limited by the accuracy attainable by the DGPS and any residual datum calibration errors. These can typically be as large as 10 cm RMSE, which is not sufficient for some large scale mapping applications. However, by combining the direct EO data a traditional block adjustment, AT techniques can be used to remove the residual errors in the solution. This technique is known as Integrated Sensor Orientation (ISO). It has several advantages over traditional AT, primarily because the stable geometry provided by direct EO can reduce the number of required GCP and tie-point to a minimum. At the same time, ISO provides an excellent tool for Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) of the EO derived from a DG system. This paper examines the factors that determine the system performance for ISO. In addition, examples are given to illustrate the expected accuracy of an aerial mapping project using ISO under different qualities of DGPS/IMU data. [Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (Auteur) Elevations for digital surface model (DSM) generation were extracted from different stereo high-resolution (HR) images (QuickBird and Ikonos) using 3D physical and empirical geometric models. The 3D physical model is Toutin's model (TM) developed at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, and the empirical model is the rational function model (RFM). First, Vendor-supplied RFMs refined with polynomial functions and TM were compared for the sensor orientations with least-squares adjustments with different number of ground control points (GCPs). TM and RFMs gave similar results with Ikonos as soon as RFM was refined with a shift computed from at least one GCP. On the other hand, TM gave better results than RFMs with QuickBird regardless of the number of GCPs. Due to relief dependency, QuickBird RFM needed to be refined at least with linear functions computed from at least 6-10 GCPs. Some large errors were, however, noted on forward image RFM in column. The stereo-extracted elevations of DSMs were then compared to 0.2-m accurate Lidar elevation data. Because DSM stereo-extracted elevations included the height of land covers (trees, houses), elevation linear errors with 68 percent confidence level (LE68) were computed for the entire area and three land-cover classes (forested, urban/residential, bare surface). TM and RFMs with Ikonos, regardless of the method and GCP number, achieved comparable results for all classes while TM achieved overall better results than RFMs with QuickBird. All results demonstrated the necessity of refining Ikonos RFM with a tri-directional shift and at least one GCP but QuickBird RFM with 1st order linear functions and 6-10 GCPs. [Termes IGN] stéréoscopieRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper a major improvement of the generic rigorous sensor model for along track stereo optical satellite sensors which has been developed at UCL over the last three years is introduced, in detail. This improved model is implemented for satellite images where information of the orbit (state vectors) of the acquired satellite is provided, as is usual nowadays. The main achievement is that the precision of the solution is improved along with the accuracy, as the correlation between the exterior parameters is dramatically eliminated. Moreover, it is possible to carry out self calibration without correlation of the exterior orientation parameters with the interior orientation parameters (even for the calculation of the focal length). This model can be solved directly if the attitude information needed for a photogrammetric solution is given or after a calibration process using a small number of GCPs, in order to calculate missing information. The model is evaluated using SPOT5-HRS imagery.
