[Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (Auteur) This paper examines the positional accuracy of the declassified KH-9 Hexagon imagery and derived DEM. Aimed at geodesy and mapmaking, the KH-9 program (1973 to 1980) resulted in an image archive with worldwide stereo coverage at 6 to 9 m. We used six KH-9 images acquired in 1980 over two testfields in Central Asia. Using reseau marks on the scanned KH-9 frames, we found and corrected image distortions. In bundle orientation with Ground Control Points (GCPs) from QuickBird images, we achieved horizontal accuracies below 6 m for a flat terrain testfield and approximately 10 m for a mountainous terrain testfield. With three GCPs the image orientation horizontal accuracy degraded by only 20 percent. We generated a DEM from the KH-9 images and estimated its vertical accuracy using IceSAT laser altimetry data and an additional DEM from 1:25 000 topographic maps. The DEM RMSE was 6.18 m over flat terrain and 20.0 m over mountainous terrain. [Termes IGN] spatiotriangulationRésumé : (Auteur) Many spaceborne imagery products are provided with metadata or support data having diverse types, representations, frequencies, and conventions. According to the variability of metadata, a compatible physical sensor model approach must be constructed. Among the three component of the sensor model, i.e., trajectory model, projection equations, and parameter subset selection, the construction of the position and attitude trajectory is closely linked with the availability and type of support data. In this paper, we show how trajectory models can be implemented based on support data from six satellite image types: QuickBird, Hyperion, SPOT-3, ASTER. PRISM, and EROS-A. Triangulation for each image is implemented to investigate the feasibility and suitability of the different trajectory models. The results show the effectiveness of some of the simple models while indicating that careful use of dense ephemeris information is necessary. These results are based on having a number of high quality ground control points. [Termes IGN] Référence-3DRésumé : (auteur) Onboard SPOT 5, the HRS instrument systematically collects stereopairs around the Globe since 2002. Each stereopair can encompass an area up to 600 km x 120 km within a single pass (i.e. 72 000 km² stereoscopic strips). From this time, SPOT 5 stereoscopic imagery becomes one of main satellite data sources for accurate DEM extraction. Spot Image and French National Cartographic Institute (IGN) decided in 2002 to design and build a worldwide accurate database called Reference3D™ using HRS data. This database consists of three information layers: Digital Elevation Model at 1-arc-second resolution (DTED level 2), Orthoimage at 5m resolution and Quality Masks. Huge efforts have been made to standardize the process in order to offer affordable prices. [Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (Editeur) A fully automated high-speed system to produce high-accuracy multispectral orthos and mosaics for optical data from all over the world is now possible with the availability of RapidEye satellite data and graphic processing unit processor. Time-sensitive applications, such as agricultural or disaster management, can now access high-accuracy orthos as soon as the data is available. [Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (Auteur) Lidar systems have been widely adopted for the acquisition of dense and accurate topographic data over extended areas. Although the utilization of this technology has increased in different applications, the development of standard methodologies for the quality assurance of lidar systems and quality control of the derived data has not followed the same trend. In other words, a lack of reliable, practical, cost-effective, and commonly-acceptable methods for quality evaluation is evident. A frequently adopted procedure for quality evaluation is the comparison between lidar data and ground control points. Besides being expensive, this approach is not accurate enough for the verification of the horizontal accuracy, which is known to be worse than the vertical accuracy. This paper is dedicated to providing an accurate, economical, and convenient quality control methodology for the evaluation of lidar data. The paper starts with a brief discussion of the lidar mathematical model, which is followed by an analysis of possible random and systematic errors and their impact on the resulting surface. Based on the discussion of error sources and their impact, a tool for evaluating the quality of the derived surface is proposed. In addition to the verification of the data quality, the proposed method can be used for evaluating the system parameters and measurements. Experimental results from simulated and real data demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed tool.
