[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Image fusion involves merging two or more images in such a way as to retain the most desirable characteristics of each. When a panchromatic image is fused with multispectral imagery, the desired result is an image with the spatial resolution and quality of the panchromatic imagery and the spectral resolution and quality of the multispectral imagery. Standard image fusion methods are often successful at injecting spatial detail into the multispectral imagery but distort the colour information in the process. Over the past decade, a significant amount of research has been conducted concerning the application of wavelet transforms in image fusion. In this paper, an introduction to wavelet transform theory and an overview of image fusion technique are given, and the results from a number of wavelet-based image fusion schemes are compared. It has been found that, in general, wavelet-based schemes perform better than standard schemes, particularly in terms of minimizing colour distortion. Schemes that combine standard methods with wavelet transforms produce superior results than either standard methods or simple wavelet-based methods alone. The results from wavelet-based methods can also be improved by applying more sophisticated models for injecting detail information; however, these schemes often have greater set-up requirements. [Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (Auteur) Various fusion methods have been developed for improving data spatial resolution. The methods most encountered in the literature are the intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) transform, the Brovey transform, the principal components algorithm (PCA) fusion method, the Gram-Schmidt fusion method, the local mean matching method, the local mean and variance matching method, the least square fusion method, the discrete wavelet fusion method including Daubechies, Symlet, Coiflet, biorthogonal spline, reverse biorthogonal spline, and Meyer wavelets, the wavelet-PCA fusion method, and the crossbred IHS and wavelet fusion method. Using various evaluation indicators such as two-dimensional correlation, relative difference of means, relative variation, deviation index, entropy difference, peak signal-to-noise ratio index and universal image quality index, as well as photo-interpretation methods and techniques, results of the above fusion methods were compared and comments on the fusion methods and potential of evaluation indicators were made. Among data fusion methods and indicators the local mean and variance matching methods proved the most efficient and the peak signal-to-noise ratio indicator proved the most appropriate for the evaluation of data fusion results. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) A method is described for integrating panchromatic (P) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) features into multispectral (XS) images using conjointly the modified Brovey transform (MBT) and the 'à trous' wavelet decomposition (ATDW). The MBT is based on the local modulation of each multispectral image by the ratio of the new and initial intensity components to produce new multispectral images directly. The ATWD allows extraction of features from P and SAR images, which are combined through a feature selection rule to integrate into the initial intensity component. For evaluating the effect of each feature selection on new XS images, experimental results are conducted on SPOT (XS, P) and Radarsat (SAR) images using both visual inspection and many refined statistical measures. [Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Existing image fusion techniques such as the intensity–hue–saturation (IHS) transform and principal components analysis (PCA) methods may not be optimal for fusing the new generation commercial high-resolution satellite images such as Ikonos and QuickBird. One problem is color distortion in the fused image, which causes visual changes as well as spectral differences between the original and fused images. In this paper, a fast Fourier transform (FFT)-enhanced IHS method is developed for fusing new generation high-resolution satellite images. This method combines a standard IHS transform with FFT filtering of both the panchromatic image and the intensity component of the original multispectral image. Ikonos and QuickBird data are used to assess the FFT-enhanced IHS transform method. Experimental results indicate that the FFT-enhanced IHS transform method may improve upon the standard IHS transform and the PCA methods in preserving spectral and spatial information. [Termes IGN] transformation rapide de FourierRésumé : (Auteur) Fusion of optical and synthetic aperture radar data has been attempted in the present study for mapping of various lithologic units over a part of the Singhbhum Shear Zone (SSZ) and its surroundings. ERS-2 SAR data over the study area has been enhanced using Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) based filtering approach, and also using Frost filtering technique. Both the enhanced SAR imagery have been then separately fused with histogram equalized IRS-1C LISS III image using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) technique. Later, Feature-oriented Principal Components Selection (FPCS) technique has been applied to generate False Color Composite (FCC) images, from which corresponding geological maps have been prepared. Finally, GIS techniques have been successfully used for change detection analysis in the lithological interpretation between the published geological map and the fusion based geological maps. In general, there is good agreement between these maps over a large portion of the study area. Based on the change detection studies, few areas could be identified which need attention for further detailed ground-based geological studies.
