[Termes IGN] pouvoir de résolution spectraleRésumé : (auteur) Hypersharpening (namely, hyperspectral (HS) and multispectral (MS) image fusion) aims at enhancing the spatial resolution of HS image via an auxiliary higher resolution MS image. Currently, numerous hypersharpening methods are proposed successively, among which the unmixing-based approaches have been widely researched and demonstrated their effectiveness in the spectral fidelity aspect. However, existing unmixing-based fusion methods substantially employ mathematical techniques to solve the spectral mixture model, without taking full advantage of the collaborative spatial–spectral information that is usually helpful for abundance estimation improvement. To overcome this drawback, in this article, a novel unmixing-based HS and MS image fusion method, via a convolutional neural network (CNN), is proposed to promote spectral fidelity. The main idea of this work is to use CNN to fully explore the spatial information and the spectral information of both HS and MS images simultaneously, thereby enhancing the accuracy of estimating the abundance maps. Experiments on four simulated and real remote sensing data sets demonstrate that the proposed method is beneficial to the spectral fidelity of the fused images compared with some state-of-the-art algorithms. Meanwhile, it is also easy to implement and has a certain advantage in running time. [Termes IGN] réflectanceRésumé : (auteur) Sentinel-3 is a newly launched satellite implemented by the European Space Agency (ESA) for global observation. The Ocean and Land Colour Imager (OLCI) sensor onboard Sentinel-3 provides 21 band images with a fine spectral resolution and is of great value for ocean, land and atmospheric monitoring. The two platforms (Sentinel-3A and -3B) can provide OLCI images at an almost daily temporal resolution. The coarse spatial resolution of the 21 band OLCI images (i.e., 300 m), however, limits greatly their utility for local, precise monitoring. Sentinel-2, another satellite provided by ESA, carries the Multispectral Imager (MSI) sensor which can supply much finer spatial resolution (e.g., 10 m and 20 m) images. This paper introduces a new fusion framework integrating spatio-temporal-spectral information for downscaling Sentinel-3 OLCI images, which has two parts. Based on bands with similar wavelengths (i.e., bands 2, 3, 4 and 8a for Sentinel-2 and bands Oa4, Oa6, Oa8 and Oa17 for Sentinel-3), the four Sentinel-3 bands are first downscaled to the spatial resolution of Sentinel-2 images by applying spatio-temporal fusion to Sentinel-2 MSI and Sentinel-3 OLCI images. Then, to take full advantage of all 21 available OLCI bands of the Sentinel-3 images, the extended image pair-based spatio-spectral fusion (EIPSSF) method is proposed in this paper to downscale the other 17 bands. EIPSSF is performed based on the new concept of the extended image pair (EIP) and by exploiting existing spatio-temporal fusion approaches. The framework consisting of spatio-temporal and spatio-spectral fusion is entirely general, which provides a practical solution for comprehensive downscaling of Sentinel-3 OLCI images for fine spatial, temporal and spectral resolution monitoring. [Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (auteur) The traditional hill-shading map is usually produced from a digital elevation model (DEM) by using the method of hypsometric tinting, which is capable of demonstrating the changes in geomorphology by setting the colors for hill-shading. However, the disadvantage is obvious that the surface features of the terrain can only be utilized by putting vector data on the map. Hence, the terrain display effect will be altered, especially in the production of large-scale maps, for which the artistic effect will be greatly weakened. This paper proposes a solution to this problem. First, we transform the RGB color space of the Digital orthophotographic map (DOM) image into the intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) color space. Then, we calculate the new value of the intensity as I′ for each pixel of the shaded relief model (SRM) of the high-resolution remote sensing image. Finally, we replace the component I with the new component I′ and then proceed with the inverse IHS transform. The case study shows that an objective representation of the actual situation is presented in the mapping area, and the 3D performance capabilities are enhanced. This research indicates that when the method of fusing the processed SRM with the IHS color system is used, the optimum index factor (OIF) and entropy of the generated map are 41.26 and 12.05, respectively, which are much greater than for the results of the traditional method. In other words, the proposed method can greatly enhance the terrain effect. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) The aim of the paper is to identify a suitable method for the construction of a 3D city model from stereo satellite imagery. In order to reach this goal, it is necessary to build a workflow consisting of three main steps: (1) Increasing the geometric resolution of the color images through the use of pan-sharpening techniques, (2) identification of the buildings’ footprint through deep-learning techniques and, finally, (3) building an algorithm in GIS (Geographic Information System) for the extraction of the elevation of buildings. The developed method was applied to stereo imagery acquired by WorldView-2 (WV-2), a commercial Earth-observation satellite. The comparison of the different pan-sharpening techniques showed that the Gram–Schmidt method provided better-quality color images than the other techniques examined; this result was deduced from both the visual analysis of the orthophotos and the analysis of quality indices (RMSE, RASE and ERGAS). Subsequently, a deep-learning technique was applied for pan sharpening an image in order to extract the footprint of buildings. Performance indices (precision, recall, overall accuracy and the F1measure) showed an elevated accuracy in automatic recognition of the buildings. Finally, starting from the Digital Surface Model (DSM) generated by satellite imagery, an algorithm built in the GIS environment allowed the extraction of the building height from the elevation model. In this way, it was possible to build a 3D city model where the buildings are represented as prismatic solids with flat roofs, in a fast and precise way. [Termes IGN] surveillance de la végétationRésumé : (auteur) Dense time series of optical satellite imagery describing vegetation activity provide essential information for the efficient and regular monitoring of vegetation. Nevertheless, the temporal resolution of optical sensors is strongly affected by cloud cover, resulting in significant missing information. The use of complementary acquisitions, such as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, opens the door to the development of new multi-sensor methodologies aiming at the reconstruction of missing information. However, the joint exploitation of new radar and optical missions, such as the Sentinel, raises new challenges given the different nature and response of the two data sources. In this work, the SenRVM methodology is proposed as a new multi-sensor approach to regress SAR time series towards Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). A deep Recurrent Neural Network architecture which integrates SAR acquisitions and ancillary data is adopted. The regression task permits a continuous optical temporal resolution of 6 days. Multiple experiments are carried out to assess the SenRVM framework by studying two large-scale areas in France. Through an extensive interpretation of the results, SenRVM is evaluated on three main vegetation types (grasslands, crops, and forests).
