[Termes IGN] TasmanieRésumé : (Auteur) Recent technological advances in the field of radar remote sensing have allowed the deployment of an increasing number of new satellite sensors. These provide an important source of Earth observation data, which add to the currently existing optical data sets. In parallel, the development of robust methods for global forest monitoring and mapping is becoming increasingly important. As a consequence, there is significant interest in the development of global monitoring systems that are able to take advantage of the potential synergies and complementary nature of optical and radar data. This paper proposes an approach for the combined processing of Landsat and ALOS-PALSAR data for the purpose of forest mapping and monitoring. This is achieved by incorporating the PALSAR data into an existing operational Landsat-based processing system. Using a directed discriminant technique, a probability map of forest presence/absence is first generated from the PALSAR imagery. This SAR classification data is then combined with a time series of similar Landsat-based maps within a Bayesian multitemporal processing framework, leading to the production of a time series of joint radar-optical maps of forest extents. This approach is applied and evaluated over a pilot study area in northeastern Tasmania, Australia. Experimental outcomes of the proposed joint processing framework are provided, demonstrating its potential for the integration of different types of remote sensing data for forest monitoring purposes. [Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (auteur) In this paper we present relevant results for the texturing of 3D urban facade models by exploiting the fusion of terrestrial multi-source data acquired by a Mobile Mapping System (MMS) and image inpainting. Current 3D urban facade models are often textured by using images that contain parts of urban objects that belong to the street. These urban objects represent in this case occlusions since they are located between the acquisition system and the facades. We show the potential use of georeferenced images and 3D point clouds that are acquired at street level by the MMS in generating occlusion-free facade textures. We describe a methodology for reconstructing quasi-real textures of facades that are highly occluded by wide frontal objects. [Termes IGN] précision de la classificationRésumé : (Auteur) Integrating multiple images with artificial neural networks (ANN) improves classification accuracy. ANN performance is sensitive to training datasets. Complexity and errors compound when merging multiple data, pointing to needs for new techniques. Kohonen's self-organizing mapping (KSOM) neural network was adapted as an automated data selector (ADS) to replace manual training data processes. The multilayer perceptron (MLP) network was then trained using automatically extracted datasets and used for classification. Two hypotheses were tested: ADS adapted from the KSOM network provides adequate and reliable training datasets, improving MLP classification performance; and fusion of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and SPOT images using the modified ANN approach increases accuracy. ADS adapted from the KSOM network improved training data quality and increased classification accuracy and efficiency. Fusion of compatible multiple data can improve performance if appropriate training datasets are collected. This proved to be a viable classification scheme particularly where acquiring sufficient and reliable training datasets is difficult.
