[Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) Population density is important spatial information for addressing the use and access to land resources in cities under the Sustainable Development Goals. This is because the spatial data support appropriate spatial policies at the spatial scale and predicts how much land will be consumed in the future. The study aims to compare and evaluate the regression tools in the context of estimating the population density difference. The three analysis tools used are Random Forest-Based Classification, Multiple Linear Regression, and Geographically Weighted Regression. The sampling area covers cities around Türkiye. Comparative results showed that the two most important descriptive variables in the Random Forest-Based Classification model are the density difference of the new developed area and the connectivity. The three main explanatory variables of the Multiple Linear Regression model are centrality, vehicle ownership, and accessibility. The results of the Multiple Linear Regression model (a non-spatial model) and the Geographically Weighted Regression model (a spatial model), were found to be quite similar. The importance of accessibility and connectivity is more evident in the Multiple Linear Regression model when the Random Forest-Based Classification model highlights the density values in the new development areas. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) This study aimed to compare a handheld mobile laser scanning (HMLS), called TORCH that uses the SLAM algorithm, and a PPK-integrated close-range terrestrial photogrammetry (CRTP) to measure forest road surface deformation. The PPK-integrated CRTP includes a multiband GNSS-module and a camera mounted on a 5-m prism pole. 3D point-clouds were gathered/produced at three different dates with approximately 3-month intervals. And then road surface deformations were determined by applying the M3C2 algorithm. Each method was compared by considering some advantages and disadvantages. PPK-integrated CRTP, which could only be used in areas where the GPS signal is not blocked, provided highly denser 3D point clouds than HMLS. However, for the first period, the difference of mean deformation values between the two methods was not statistically significant, whereas it was statistically significant for the second period. Both methods can be suggested to use in forest road surface deformation yet considering their limitations. [Vedettes matières IGN] AltimétrieRésumé : (auteur) Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are real-world geographical databases that are important in studying many Earth related topics. Because the vertical accuracy of global DEMs differs across regions due to various reasons, acquiring reliable heights for a region using global height models is crucial. The objective of this study is to compare and assess the most reliable global height model for Sri Lanka. The official height system in Sri Lanka is the Mean Sea Level (MSL) based orthometric height system. In this study, the quality of ASTER, SRTM, NASADEM, MERIT, and DEMs compiled from digitized contour data of Sri Lanka was evaluated using the known heights of the Fundamental Benchmarks (FBMs) of Sri Lanka. In addition, recently published high-resolution Global Geopotential Models (GGMs) were used for the accuracy assessments of gravity related quantities computed using DEMs. The SGG-UGM-2 GGM, which showed the minimum STD and RMSE of geoid undulation difference was found as the best fit GGM over Sri Lanka. It was found that the NASADEM at its highest resolution, which gave the lowest RMSE of 2.954 m was the best global DEM for Sri Lanka. [Termes IGN] Viet NamRésumé : (auteur) Using a multivariate drought index that incorporates important environmental variables and is suitable for a specific geographical region is essential to fully understanding the pattern and impacts of drought severity. This study applied feature scaling algorithms to MODIS time-series imagery to develop an integrated Multivariate Drought Index (iMDI). The iMDI incorporates the vegetation condition index (VCI), the temperature condition index (TCI), and the evaporative stress index (ESI). The 54,474 km2 Vietnamese Central Highlands region, which has been significantly affected by drought severity for several decades, was selected as a test site to assess the feasibility of the iMDI. Spearman correlation between the iMDI and other commonly used spectral drought indices (i.e. the Drought Severity Index (DSI–12) and the annual Vegetation Health Index (VHI–12)) and ground-based drought indices (i.e. the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI–12) and the Reconnaissance Drought Index (RDI–12)) was employed to evaluate performance of the proposed drought index. Pixel-based linear regression together with clustering models of the iMDI time-series was applied to characterize the spatiotemporal pattern of drought from 2001 to 2020. In addition, a persistent area of LULC types (i.e. forests, croplands, and shrubland) during the 2001–2020 period was used to understand drought variation in relation to LULC. [Termes IGN] surveillance forestièreRésumé : (auteur) With the rapid development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology, more and more UAVs have been used in forest survey. UAV (RGB) images are the most widely used UAV data source in forest resource management. However, there is some uncertainty as to the reliability of these data when monitoring height and growth changes of low-growing saplings in an afforestation plot via UAV RGB images. This study focuses on an artificial Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lancelota, named as Chinese Fir) young forest plot in Fujian, China. Divide-and-conquer (DAC) and the local maximum (LM) method for extracting seedling height are described in the paper, and the possibility of monitoring young forest growth based on low-cost UAV remote sensing images was explored. Two key algorithms were adopted and compared to extract the tree height and how it affects the young forest at single-tree level from multi-temporal UAV RGB images from 2019 to 2021. Compared to field survey data, the R2 of single saplings’ height extracted from digital orthophoto map (DOM) images of tree pits and original DSM information using a divide-and-conquer method reached 0.8577 in 2020 and 0.9968 in 2021, respectively. The RMSE reached 0.2141 in 2020 and 0.1609 in 2021. The R2 of tree height extracted from the canopy height model (CHM) via the LM method was 0.9462. The RMSE was 0.3354 in 2021. The results demonstrated that the survival rates of the young forest in the second year and the third year were 99.9% and 85.6%, respectively. This study shows that UAV RGB images can obtain the height of low sapling trees through a computer algorithm based on using 3D point cloud data derived from high-precision UAV images and can monitor the growth of individual trees combined with multi-stage UAV RGB images after afforestation. This research provides a fully automated method for evaluating the afforestation results provided by UAV RGB images. In the future, the universality of the method should be evaluated in more afforestation plots featuring different tree species and terrain.
