[Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (auteur) Water resources management should be assessed under climate change conditions, as historic data cannot replicate future climatic conditions. - Climate change impacts on water resources are bound to affect all water uses, i.e., irrigated agriculture, domestic and industrial water supply, hydropower generation, and environmental flow (of streams and rivers) and water level (of lakes). - Bottom-up approaches, i.e., the forcing of hydrologic simulation models with climate change models’ outputs, are the most common engineering practices and considered as climate-resilient water management approaches. - Hydrologic simulations forced by climate change scenarios derived from regional climate models (RCMs) can provide accurate assessments of the future water regime at basin scales. - Irrigated agriculture requires special attention as it is the principal water consumer and alterations of both precipitation and temperature patterns will directly affect agriculture yields and incomes. - Integrated water resources management (IWRM) requires multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, with climate change to be an emerging cornerstone in the IWRM concept. [Termes IGN] puits de carboneRésumé : (auteur) The study of tree assemblages in tropical forests is gaining new impetus with the need to assess carbon emissions at high precision and resolution, while limiting the erosion of diversity and promoting sustainable forest management. The objective of this study was to (i) investigate the respective roles of topographic / soil gradients and endogenous dynamics in shaping local variations in dominance; (ii) demonstrate the feasibility of studying canopy texture by harmonizing Fourier-based Textural Ordination (FOTO) indices of two GeoEye - 50 cm images, acquired from different phenologic seasons, to calibrate AGB inversion model using inventory plots. The study was conducted in Uma forest, East of Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo. Dataset of 30 1-ha plots, in which all trees above 10 cm diameter at 1.30 m height (DBH) were measured and identified. Standard physical and chemical properties of soil samples were determined (macro-nutrients, textural classes and pH) and a digital elevation model (SRTM 30 m) was used to infer relevant topographical features (altitude and hydromorphy). The forest in the study area is characterized by variations in the abundance of three dominant species: Petersianthus macrocarpus (P. BEAUV.) LIBEN, Gilbertiodendron dewevrei (De Wild.) J. Léonard and Julbernardia seretii (DE WILD.) TROUPIN, one non-pioneer, light demanding species and two late successional, shade tolerant species respectively. These variations occur nearly independently of variations in the substratum or topography, despite important gradients of the range of considered variables. Analyzing differential relative abundance of the three dominant species in the lower strata and in the canopy, did not provide evidence of shifts in dominance, in which a species would obviously tend to replace another through time in any of the three floristic groups. This suggests that in this study area the states of dominance in the vegetation are stable across generations, that successional dynamics are very slow or that they are localized to peculiar locations. Using FOTO method, this study documents a strong relation between observed and predicted AGBs, without cross validation (R² of the linear regression reached 0.82 (mean square error = 27.24 T/ha). This correlation was still present, although weaker, with cross validation (R² of the linear regression between observed and predicted AGBs = 0.64). The mean square error increases to 46.68 T/ha after cross validation for a mean of 450 T/ha. This result confirms the potential of FOTO indices of optical very high resolution satellite images to quantify aboveground biomass without no signal saturation in high AGB tropical forests. [Termes IGN] vergerRésumé : (auteur) C-band radar remote sensing is a suitable tool for monitoring agricultural areas on a large scale, providing access to information on vegetation such as plant biomass, or on the surface water content of the soil. Recent studies suggest that the water state and the physiological functioning of trees influence radar response leading to marked daily profiles of both radar backscattering coefficient and temporal coherence. The objective of this paper is to make a preliminary comparison between the temporal evolution of Sentinel-1 radar data and in situ radar measurements over a Mediterranean olive orchard located in Morocco. In situ radar data consist in quad polarizations measurements realized from a 20m high tower, every 15 minutes, for the period extending from May 2019 to October 2020. [Termes IGN] ventRésumé : (auteur) C-band radar observations are well known to have great potentials for the monitoring of crop hydric conditions. Recent studies suggested that the observed difference of backscattering coefficient between ascending and descending pass over tropical forest could be related to the physiological functioning of the trees. Likewise, the water movement within annual crops could lead to a daily cycle of both σo and temporal coherence. The objective of this paper is to present the preliminary results of an experiment carried out on a winter wheat field in Morocco that was instrumented with six C-band antennas during 2020 growing season. The preliminary results showed strong daily cycles of ρ and σo that are analyzed in relation to wind speed, surface soil moisture and evapotranspiration. This work open insights for the monitoring of the crop hydric status using C-band radar data acquired by Sentinel-1 and by potential future radar geostationary missions.
