[Termes IGN] surveillance de la végétationRésumé : (auteur) Invasive alien plants (IAPs) threaten biodiversity and critical ecosystem services worldwide. There is, therefore, an urgent need to develop intervention measures to control the spread of IAPs. Efforts to control and monitor the spread of IAPs would require their current and detailed distribution over a large geographic area. Recently launched multispectral instrument on-board Sentinel-2 provides free data with good spatiotemporal and spectral resolution, compared to Landsat datasets. The Sentinel-2 dataset, therefore, can be a useful source of the IAPs spatial information required for detection and monitoring purposes. We combined Sentinel-2 data with a radiative transfer model to discriminate IAPs (Acacia mearnsii and Acacia dealbata) from surrounding native tree species in Van Reenen, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The forward mode of combined PROSPECT leaf optical properties model and SAIL canopy bidirectional reflectance model, also referred to as PROSAIL was used to simulate reflectance corresponding to bands of Sentinel-MSI, while the PROSAIL model inversion retrieved leaf area index (LAI) and canopy chlorophyll contents (CCC) of the IAPs and native species. Both reflectance and retrieved properties were used to map the distribution of the species within the study area. Our results showed that A. mearnsii and A. dealbata could be accurately discriminated from the surrounding native trees using integrated PROSAIL Sentinel-2 based model. We found that CCC– and LAI-based (% accuracy = 92.8%, 91.4% for CCC and LAI, respectively) modelling produced a higher classification accuracy than field sampling-based modelling (Accuracy = 90.2% (IAP), 82.2% (NAT) and kappa coefficient = 0.84 (IAP), 0.78 (NAT)). Simulated bands corresponding to Sentinel-2 data, on the other hand, produced species maps comparable to field sampling-based maps. Overall, the integrated PROSAIL Sentinel-2 inversion approach proved suitable for detecting and mapping IAPs over a large area. Due to the high spatiotemporal coverage of Sentinel-2, satellite images, the model developed showed the potential to contribute to the IAPs monitoring systems. [Termes IGN] réflectance spectraleRésumé : (auteur) Moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) is a 36-band spectroradiometer that measures the Earth’s surface from 0.4 to $14.4~\mu \text{m}$ at three spatial resolutions, 250 m (two bands), 500 m (five bands), and 1000 m (29 bands). The wide-scale use of the science products derived from the two MODIS instruments on the Terra and Aqua spacecrafts is a result of their excellent on-orbit performance, calibration stability, and accuracy through the life of the mission, making them a benchmark against which the performance of newer instruments is frequently evaluated. The recently launched multispectral instrument (MSI) aboard the Sentinel 2A and Sentinel 2B spacecrafts are part of the European Union’s Copernicus program designed to acquire high spatial resolution imagery in the reflective spectrum from 0.4 to $2.2~\mu \text{m}$ . One of the popular techniques to evaluate the on-orbit calibration is by comparing the top-of-atmosphere (TOA) reflectance with an independent (well-calibrated) sensor while viewing a pseudoinvariant desert target, such as Libya 4. In this work, the TOA reflectances from Terra and Aqua MODIS and Sentinel 2A and Sentinel 2B MSI are compared using the same-day scenes from Libya 4. The corrections for spectral response function mismatch and the bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) are formulated and applied to obtain an effective TOA reflectance difference between the spectrally matching bands of these sensors. The availability of off-nadir MODIS overpass pairs with MSI facilitates the comparison across the entire MODIS scan-angle range and in turn an on-orbit evaluation of the response versus scan-angle (RVS) corrections is performed. Additionally, each MODIS instrument is used as a transfer mechanism to evaluate the calibration differences between the two MSIs, with an agreement to within 1% observed between the two MSIs. The radiometric calibration differences between Terra MODIS and the two MSIs at nadir is generally within 4%, with only the red-band pair (Terra MODIS band 1 and MSI band 4) showing disagreement beyond 4%. In general, the reflectance ratios are in better agreement with Aqua MODIS than with Terra MODIS. A better agreement between MODIS and the two MSIs is observed at nadir, indicating some residual effects associated with the BRDF correction that are observed in the off-nadir scene pairs. Also included in this article is a description of the various uncertainties associated with this cross-calibration. [Termes IGN] trait de côteRésumé : (auteur) Climate change is a major concern of humanity. One of the consequences of climate change is global warming causing melting glaciers, rising sea levels and shoreline regression. In Togo, the regression of shoreline leads to coastal erosion with significant damage on socio-economic infrastructures and human habitats. This research, basing on geospatial techniques, focuses on coastal erosion monitoring from 1988 to 2018 in Togo. It is interested in the extraction of shoreline and in the analysis of change. Various satellite images indexes have been developed for shoreline extraction but the major scientific problem concerns the precision of the different classification algorithms methods used for the extraction of the shoreline from these water index. This study used NDWI index from multisource satellite images. It assesses the performance of Otsu threshold segmentation, Iso Cluster Unsupervised Classification and Support Vector Machine (SVM) Supervised Classification methods for the extraction of the shoreline on NDWI index. The topographic morphology such as linear and non-linear coastal surfaces have been considered. The estimation of the rates of change of the shoreline was performed using the statistical linear regression method (LRR). The results revealed that the SVM Supervised Classification method showed good performance on linear and non-linear coastal surface than the other methods. For the kinematics of the shoreline, the southwest of the Togolese coast has an average erosion rate ranging from 2.49 to 5.07 m per year. The results obtained will serve as decision-making support tools for the design and implementation of appropriate adaptations plans to avoid the immersion of the asphalt road by sea, displacement of population and disturbance of human habitats. [Termes IGN] structure de la végétationRésumé : (auteur) This article demonstrates how 3-D vegetation structure can be approximated by interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) backscatter-height histograms. Single-look backscatter measurements are plotted against the InSAR phase height and are aggregated spatially over a forest patch to form a 3-D histogram, referred to as InSAR backscatter-height histogram or simply InSAR histogram. InSAR histograms resemble LiDAR waveforms, suggesting that existing algorithms used to retrieve canopy height and ground topography from radar tomograms or LiDAR waveforms can be applied to InSAR histograms. Three algorithms are evaluated to generate maps of digital terrain, surface, and canopy height models: Gaussian decomposition, quantile, and backscatter threshold. Full-polarimetric L-band uninhabited aerial vehicle synthetic aperture radar (UAVSAR) data collected over the Gabonese Lopé National Park during the 2016 AfriSAR campaign are used to illustrate and compare the performance of the algorithms for the HH, HV, VV, HH+VV, and HH−VV polarimetric channels. Results show that radar-derived maps using the InSAR histograms differ by 4 m (top-canopy), 5 m (terrain), and 6 m (forest height) in terms of average root-mean-square errors (RMSEs) from standard maps derived from full-waveform laser, vegetation, and ice sensor (LVIS) LiDAR measurements.
