[Termes IGN] système multi-agentsRésumé : (Auteur) The growing availability of digital geographical data induces a growing need for producing Maps on Demand. In this context the aim of this paper is to present three original methods to automatically improve existing legends. At the current step of our research we are focusing on colour change only but the results are already very positive. A legend is composed of legend-lines and the aim of the processes is to change the colours of legend-lines to improve colour contrasts while respecting the relationships of Association, Order or Difference each legend-line has with the others. Thus we follow Bertin's approach (Bertin, 1967) of decomposing a legend into a set of couples relating the sign and its meaning. In our approach, we distinguish 1/ the cartographic rules, 2/ the data modelling that hold this knowledge and 3/ the solutions proposed for legend improvement. Three methods are proposed: one based on Constraints Solving Problem method, one based on Multi- Agent System and the last based on Local Search. The two first are limited to an analysis of contrast between legend-lines whereas the last computes the contrast on the map between cartographic symbols which is more accurate. The quality of the results of course mainly depends on the understanding of cartographic rules and their balance. These methods could be used to propose new cartographic services on the web. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Many geographical data generalisation models have contributed to improve the automation of this complex simplification process. This paper focuses on the agentbased generalisation model GAEL, which provides a generic way to compute continuous object deformations. The principle of this deformation model is to make objects deformable by decomposing them into small constrained objects (segments, triangles, etc.). An object deformation is computed by balancing these constraints. Depending on the constraints choice, the object can be deformed in many different ways. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how this model can be relatively easily reused for three new applications: building squaring, contour lines displacement, and buildings displacement. We then discuss the notions of genericity and easiness of reuse of generalisation models, and finally propose some methodological points helping to improve these important characteristics of generalisation models. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper is concerned with the automated generalisation of vector geographic databases. It studies the possible synergies between three existing, complementary models of generalisation, all based on the multi-agent paradigm. These models are respectively well adapted for the generalisation of urban spaces (AGENT model), rural spaces (CARTACOm model) and background themes (GAEL model). In these models, the geographic objects are modelled as agents that apply generalisation algorithms to themselves, guided by cartographic constraints to satisfy. The differences between them particularly lie in their constraint modelling and their agent coordination model. Three complementary ways of combining these models are proposed: separate use on separate zones, “interlaced” sequential use on the same zone, and shared use of data internal to the models. The last one is further investigated and a partial re-engineering of the models is proposed. [Termes IGN] système multi-agentsRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of this paper is to present a spatially explicit agent-based simulation framework with a supporting software package to explore complex adaptive geographic systems. This framework is particularly suitable for modeling entities that are contextually aware, knowledge driven, and adaptive because it represents them as geographically aware intelligent agents. Fundamental advances in the explicit representation of contextual information, knowledge structures, and learning processes are needed for modeling intelligent agents situated within geographic systems. The representation of these agents requires the integration of agent-based models, machine learning, and GIS. Existing software packages for agent-based modeling, however, often provide insufficient support for this integration. The agent-based simulation package presented here is specifically designed to achieve such integration by assisting the development of agent-based models from the simulation framework. Object-oriented modeling techniques were used to implement this simulation package, which includes four modules: simulation, visualization, learning, and geoprocessing. In particular, the learning and geoprocessing modules facilitate the representation of adaptive behavior in agents within spatially explicit environments. The utility of the agent-based simulation package is illustrated using two simulation models: one of adaptive elk behavior and another of pedestrian movement. The successful design of the simulation models suggests that the modeling framework with the supporting software package is well suited to the resolution of complex adaptive geographic problems.
