[Termes IGN] zone semi-arideRésumé : (auteur) This work aims to investigate the sensitivity of the diurnal differences of radar backscatter to diurnal changes in the vegetation water content (VWC). Sentinel-1 backscattering coefficient differences between two orbits (morning and evening) are analyzed over an irrigated and voluntarily stressed wheat field. A physical model of backscatter prediction is evaluated for wheat and used to examine the sensitivity of radar differences to the VWC for a range of surface soil moisture and biomass conditions. Results highlight the potential of C-band diurnal differences for the monitoring the water stress over agricultural canopies. [Termes IGN] TéhéranRésumé : (Auteur) Evapotranspiration is considered to be an important component of allocating water to agricultural sector; therefore, the more accurate this parameter is, the more optimized the water use can be. This study was conducted in order to evaluate the Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 data (A and B), both separately and combined, in potential evapotranspiration (ETp) and single crop coefficient (Kc) estimations. Field measurements such as crop height, leaf area index (LAI), land surface temperature (LST), air temperature above canopy (AT), and spectral data were exploited in the evaluating process throughout the entirety of 2017–18 growing season under winter wheat and barley cultivations in the Agricultural Research Farms of the University of Tehran. The novel method of Multi-Sensor Data Fusion using the Priestly-Taylor equation was taken into practice for satellite-based ETp (MSDF-ET) calculation from the combination of MODIS thermal and Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 multispectral data. Thermal images were downscaled by the means of the TsHARP algorithm. Thus, prior to ETp calculation, the thermal sharpening algorithm calculated using different spectral indices (SI) was assessed. The SI included NDVI, SAVI, SR, NDWI, NDWIg, and LSWI. The subsequent results were representative of the LSWI qualification under both Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 conditions against thermal and spectral measurements. Also the satellite-based ETp strongly correlated with the ETp derived from the field data illuminating the promising accuracy of the MSDF-ET method in both Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 data. In the end, the time series of Kc obtained from the combination of satellites were fairly indicative of the real-world variations under different vegetation cover and crop growth stages. Overall, using Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 products in integration with each other could significantly result in more reliable decisions in agricultural water resources management. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) When stumps on clear cuts are harvested for bioenergy, retention of a share of them is recommended to mitigate environmental issues. To maximise benefits for the diversity of saproxylic beetles, retention should be done in dry positions. Saproxylic dipterans are usually thought to be associated with wetter wood substrates. We therefore hypothesised that dipterans would benefit from other recommendations. We tested that by rearing out insects from spruce and birch stumps sampled in clear fellings, and received a material of 866 individuals of 24 Diptera taxa. Among six Diptera species tested statistically, one was associated with dry stumps when comparing within spruce, and the total abundance of dipterans was higher in dry spruce stumps than in wet. No parameter (total species number, species number per stump, total abundances and abundances of individual species) showed a higher value for wet stumps than for dry. We conclude that there are several Diptera species that frequently use stumps, of which a large share was earlier regarded as very rare. For those, our hypothesis was falsified, as the affinities to dry stumps seem similar as for beetles and the same recommendations could be used. [Termes IGN] Perceptron multicoucheRésumé : (Auteur) Tree growth information is crucial in forest management and planning. Terrain-derived attributes such as the topographic wetness index (TWI), in addition to leaf area index (LAI) are closely related to tree growth, but are not commonly used in empirical growth models. In this study, we examined if modified TWI and LAI estimated from airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data could be used to improve the predictions of a national single-tree diameter growth model. Altogether 1118 sample trees were selected within 197 subjectively placed plots in randomly selected forest stands in south-eastern Finland. Linear mixed effect (LME) and multilayer perceptron models were used to model the bias of 5-year growth predictions of the model and thus ultimately improve its predictions. The root mean square error (RMSE) of the national model was 0.604 cm. LME modelling reduced this value to 0.404 cm and MLP to 0.568 cm. The predictors included in the best-performing LME model were modified TWI, LAI estimated from LiDAR intensities, and elevation. Without an LAI estimate, the best RMSE was 0.436 cm. When applied as such, original and modified TWIs produced similar accuracy. We conclude that both TWI and LAI obtained from LiDAR data improve the diameter growth predictions of the national model. [Termes IGN] Soil Adjusted Vegetation IndexRésumé : (auteur) The main objective of the presented work is to assess applicability of vegetation indices derived from non-commercial and commercial satellites for monitoring development stages of winter wheat. Two types of data were used in the study: Sentinel-2 and PlanetScope images. Various vegetation indices were derived from these data and correlated with ground measured LAI values. The results of the study revealed that there is a good relationship between satellite based indices – Normalized Difference Vegetation Index – NDVI, Enhanced Vegetation Index – EVI, Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index – SAVI and ground based LAI, but strength of this relation depends on the phase of crop development. Sentinel-2 and PlanetScope data are suitable for estimating LAI with high accuracy and their precision for LAI determination is very similar. Depending on availability, they can be used interchangeably. The highest correlation between ground measured LAI and vegetation indices for Sentinel-2 appeared SAVI – r = 0.862 (phase: early tillering) and for PlanetScope NDVI – r = 0.667 (phase: ripening). Compatibility of average LAI values derived from PlanetScope and Sentinel-2 images are 33.21% and 10.63%.
