[Termes IGN] polygoneRésumé : (auteur) Various spectral indices have been introduced to detect water extent from satellite images with different performances in various regions. The aim of this study is to provide an efficient index using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to detect water spread areas from satellite images with similar performance in different regions. This index is introduced for images containing water absorption bands from visible to middle infrared wavelengths. Eleven images were prepared from different satellites and water bodies with various environmental conditions. In addition, 40 pixels from water and 40 pixels from non-water regions were selected as training data for PSO algorithm. Results were evaluated using digitized polygons of water bodies on high-resolution images of Google Earth. The best results in PSO-based water index (PSOWI) were obtained by the combination of two bands (red and middle infrared). PSOWI represented proper performance in the selected various land covers and satellite images. Topographic wetness index, elevation, altitude above channel, slope, drainage density, convergence index, and runoff contributing to water accumulation/stagnation were processed to generate the flood hazard map of the basin. Values for the relative importance of each factor for flood occurrence were obtained using FAHP; these factors were super-imposed using weighted overlay. Sensitivity analysis of the weights was conducted to determine their influence on the overall analysis. The resultant flood hazard map was classified into five zones very high, high, moderate, low, and very low. Sensitivity analysis of the result showed that runoff and slope were the most sensitive factors in the analysis with values of 1.163 and 1.132, respectively. A comparison between flood hazard map and historical floods within the basin established the reliability of the methodology. [Termes IGN] réflectance du solRésumé : (Auteur) Soil moisture content (SMC), product of Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2), is not at an adequate level of accuracy on a regional scale. The aim of this study is to introduce a simple method to estimate SMC while synergistically using AMSR2 and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) measurements with a higher accuracy on a regional scale. Two MODIS products, including daily reflectance (MYD021) and nighttime land surface temperature (LST) products were used. In 2015, 1442 in situ SMC measurements from six stations in Iran were used as ground-truth data. Twenty models were evaluated using combinations of polarization index (PI), index of soil wetness (ISW), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and LST. The model revealed the best results using a quadratic combination of PI and ISW, a linear form of LST, and a constant value. The overall correlation coefficient, root-mean-square error, and mean absolute error were 0.59, 4.62%, and 3.01%, respectively. A soil moisture index (SMI) derived from NDVI-Ts space is combined to all other variables, based on stepwise multiple regression, to develop a new SSMC model. Performance of this model was assessed using field-measured data of SSM. Accuracy was performed by the k-fold cross validation method, it showed a R2 (coefficients of determination) of 0.70, RMSE of 1.58% and unRMSE of 0.5%. In addition, the results of the developed model were compared with another soil moisture model SMM proposed in the irrigated perimeter of Tadla (Morocco), and revealed that the established model provided effectiveness results in the study areas. [Termes IGN] température au solRésumé : (Auteur) The occurrence of drought is related to complicated interactions between many factors, such as precipitation, temperature, evapotranspiration and vegetation. In this study, the relationships between drought and precipitation, temperature, vegetation and evapotranspiration were investigated with a random forest (RF), and a new combined drought monitoring index (CDMI) was constructed. The effectiveness of the CDMI in monitoring drought in Shaanxi Province was verified by the in situ 1 ∼ 12-month standardized precipitation index (SPI); relative soil moisture (RSM) and four other commonly used remote sensing drought monitoring indices. The results show that CDMI is more correlated with the SPI and RSM than the four indices. Moreover, the spatial distributions of drought for the CDMI and RSM are similar. Therefore, the CDMI can be used to monitor droughts in Shaanxi Province, and machine learning can explore the relationships between various factors and establish a drought index without knowledge of the causal mechanisms of these factors.
