Note de contenu : Introduction

To develop and to assess such techniques, researchers and designers have to face choices in terms of which development tools to adopt, and with very little information about how such tools support some of the very basic tasks for information visualization, such as selecting data items, linking and navigating. As a solution, we propose Flex-ER, a flexible web-based environment that enables users to prototype, debug and share experimental conditions and results. Flex-ER enables users to quickly switch between hardware platforms and input modalities by using a JSON specification that supports both defining interaction techniques and tasks at a low cost. We demonstrate the flexibility of the environment through three task design examples: brushing, linking and navigating. A qualitative user study suggest that Flex-ER can be helpful to prototype and explore different interaction techniques for immersive analytics. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The outreach of Wi-Fi localization is extended in this study for urban wide applications as they provide the high potential to employ them for numerous applications for localization and guidance in urban environments. The selected application presented in this paper is the localization and routing of public transport smartphone users. For the conducted investigations, Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) values are collected for users who are travelling from home in a residential neighbourhood to work in the city centre and return along the same route. Special tramway trains are selected which provide two on-board Wi-Fi Access Points (APs). Firstly, the availability, visibility and RSSI stability of the Wi-Fi signal behavior of these APs and the APs in the surrounding environment along the routes is analyzed. Then the trajectories are estimated based on location fingerprinting. A first analyses reveals that significant differences exists between the six employed smartphones as well as times of the day, e. g. in the morning at peak hours or at off-peak hours. From the long-time observations it is seen that the two on-board APs show a high stability of the RSSI signals at the same times of the day and along the whole route. It is therefore currently investigated how they can confirm and validate user localization along the route and if they can contribute to constrain the overall positioning solution in combination with the inertial smartphone sensors. Moreover, the railway track can serve as a further constraint. As an outlook on future work, the development of a Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) solution with a fusion with the smartphone inertial sensors is proposed. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (auteur) Many studies have been focused on rendering 2D vector elements on 3D terrain, and a series of algorithms have been proposed. Most of these algorithms struggle to provide a seamless overlay between vector elements and an irregular terrain surface. Despite their importance, the physical characteristics of vector elements are often ignored, which distorts the surface of vector elements. For example, if vector elements that represent roads and rivers are simply overlaid on terrain, the phenomena of uneven surfaces and rivers going uphill may occur because of elevation fluctuation. To correct these deficiencies, terrain should be modified according to the physical characteristics of vectors. We propose a local terrain modification method: First, the elevation of terrain covered by vector elements is recalculated according to vectors’ physical characteristics. Second, the multigrid method is used to realize a smooth transition between the modified terrain and its surrounding area. Finally, by setting different transition ranges and comparing the visualization effects, rules are given for the selection of a suitable range. After modification, the terrain conforms to vectors’ physical characteristics, and the overall relief is undamaged. The proposed method was applied to a CPU–GPU parallel heterogeneous model and demonstrated a high level of performance. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the distributed computation of Delaunay triangulations of massive point sets, mainly motivated by the needs of a scalable out-of-core surface reconstruction workflow from massive urban LIDAR datasets. Such a data often corresponds to a huge point cloud represented through a set of tiles of relatively homogeneous point sizes. This will be the input of our algorithm which will naturally partition this data across multiple processing elements. The distributed computation and communication between processing elements is orchestrated efficiently through an uncentralized model to represent, manage and locally construct the triangulation corresponding to each tile. Initially inspired by the star splaying approach, we review the Tile\& Merge algorithm for computing Distributed Delaunay Triangulations on the cloud, provide a theoretical proof of correctness of this algorithm, and analyse the performance of our Spark implementation in terms of speedup and strong scaling in both synthetic and real use case datasets. A HPC implementation (e.g. using MPI), left for future work, would benefit from its more efficient message passing paradigm but lose the robustness and failure resilience of our Spark approach.
