[Termes IGN] Vancouver (Colombie britannique)Résumé : (Auteur) Urban densification is often seen as a process that aims to limit the negative environmental impacts of urban sprawl in rapidly growing cities by prioritizing planning policies stimulating vertical growth (or high-rise development) over expansion along the urban fringe. Densification of major Canadian urban areas has led to the proliferation of high-rises with an increasing proportion of residents occupying these buildings rather than traditional individual housing. Thus, there is a need for analytical methods that can evaluate the suitability of different residential units in vertical urban developments based on unique criteria for different stakeholders such as prospective residents, developers, or municipal planners. Multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) analysis with weighted linear combination (WLC) is frequently implemented in geographic information systems (GIS) to identify the appropriate solution(s) for a decision problem. However, there are currently no available MCE methods for spatial analysis that can provide evaluation in a three-dimensional (3D) GIS environment, such as for urban vertical development. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to propose a 3D WLC-MCE suitability analysis method for suitability of high-rise residential units in a dense urban area. Five preference scenarios were developed and applied to data from City of Vancouver, Canada. The results indicate that south-facing units and units on higher floors generally exhibit higher levels of suitability as they are less affected by the noise and pollution of the urban road network and receive more sunlight and ocean views. The proposed 3D MCE approach can be used for urban planning and property tax assessment. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The suitability assessment of land use is crucial to avoid wasting land resources. However, the traditional methods with subjective weights are prone to reduce the reasonability and reliability of assessment. For filling this knowledge gap, the probability neural network (PNN) coupled with GIS was adopted to evaluate the land use suitability in this paper. According to the applications of the urban land resource, the land use was divided into three types (resident, industry and ecological reserve). Thus, the three different assessment criteria systems were built for the three land use types. The result of residential land use indicated that the most suitable, suitable and normal suitable residential land were 401, 272 and 12,406 km2 and mainly located in Changhai, Lvshun and Pulandian accordingly. The most suitable land for industry was in Ganjingzi, Jinzhou and Wafangdian and accounted for 22% of the total area. While the most suitable land for ecological reserve was in Pulandian and Zhuanghe with the area of 1967 km2. The results indicated that the south of Dalian was suitable for the residential land use, north of Dalian was suitable for the ecological land use and the central was suitable for industrial land use. The results were coincided to the actual spatial distribution of land use. The proposed PNN coupled with GIS assessment method in suitability of land use is conducted to provide a more reasonable assessment result that can be used by managers and regulators. [Termes IGN] Royaume-UniRésumé : (auteur) Utility networks comprise a fundamental part of our complex urban systems and the integration of digital representations of these networks across multiple spatial scales can be used to help address priority challenges. Deteriorating water utility infrastructure and low routing redundancy result in network fragility and thus supply outages when assets fail. Water distribution network configurations can be optimised for higher resilience but digital representations of the networks used for simulations and analyses are not integrated with the finer scale networks inside buildings. This integration is hindered by differences in conceptualisation and semantics employed by the relevant data standards. We suggest that the geospatial and geometric data contained in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and water distribution network (WDN) models can be used for their integration; and that this supports the use cases of optimising dynamic network partitioning, reducing the risk of underground utility strikes and planning for future network configurations with higher topological redundancy. In this study, we develop and demonstrate the application of a weight-based spatial algorithm for inferring water network connections between urban-scale WDNs and BIM models, showing that spatial data can be used in the absence of complete or consistent semantic representations. We suggest that the method has potential for transferability to infrastructure for other utility resources (such as waste water, electricity and gas) and make recommendations such as standardising the representation of connection points between disjoint utility network models and extending the normal practical spatial remit of BIM MEP modelling to encompass the space between buildings and WDNs. [Termes IGN] ruissellementRésumé : (auteur) Rainwater harvesting (RWH) is one of the major techniques that is investigated in the present study using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) methods as two tools for decision-making, weighting and combining different thematic layers include land use, slope, drainage density and hydrological soil groups (HSG). The runoff map obtained by the distributed spatial-physical WetSpa model is considered as a useful layer that is integrated with other thematic layers in the geographic information system (GIS) environment for identifying RWH sites. Kakareza watershed (1132 km2) in Iran was selected as a study area to carry out the foregoing approach. The results showed that 256 km2 of the study area is good for RWH, 360 km2 is moderate and 516 km2 is poor. Thus, about 22.61% (256 km2) of Kakareza watershed is highly suitable for farm ponds. This article recommends the RWH suitable sites to a judicious decision for better water management in the area. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (auteur) One of the important issues in ubiquitous geographic information science (GIS) is designing user-centric path finding algorithms to meet user needs. Mostly, in a route planning problem, the user’s purpose is optimization of two or more objective functions simultaneously. Thus, the problem is a multi-objective problem. In the present study, having considered multi-objective optimization methods in path finding, we developed an algorithm for solving this problem using an improved multi-objective ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm. Modifications are introduced for various components of the ant colony metaheuristics; specifically, for those associated with the ‘ant decision rule’. The proposed algorithm was tested on the studied network. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach has acceptable settings, repeatability and run time. In addition, one of the important research outputs is a pareto-front which allows the user to select the final path according to the desired priorities.
