[Termes IGN] krigeageRésumé : (auteur) A comparison of kriging and moving window kriging (MWK) on a sphere is performed on GNSS/levelling data. The study was to give the answer on whether there is a significant gain in prediction accuracy when we apply an MWK instead of ‘classical’ kriging and also to what extent the use of global geopotential model EGM2008 improves prediction. The quality of prediction for all kriging and data variants has been investigated on three regions (being on the territory of the conterminous USA) characterised with a different spatial extent and density of sampling. Numerical tests revealed that in case of high-sampling density there was no accuracy gain when using MWK instead of classical kriging (cK). In contrast, for less numerous datasets and a much larger spatial extent (low-sampling density) MWK adapts itself to data much better than cK. Incorporation of EGM2008-based undulations as a long-wavelength trend for both cases (classical and moving window) significantly improved prediction quality. [Termes IGN] mise à jour de base de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Upscaling land cover maps is broadly employed to fill data gaps or match the spatial-resolution of preexisting projects. However, existing methods introduce systematic errors in the area information and the landscape pattern. We developed an upscaling method fusing the spatial structure information (i.e., class Membership probability) and the uncertainty information of the base map (e.g., Confidence level probability), called Fusing class Membership probability and Confidence level probability (FMC). The results showed that FMC obtained higher upscaling efficiency, and mitigated the negative influence of landscape heterogeneity and the negative influence of unequal proportions of land cover in the base maps, on the upscaling compared to Majority Rule Based (MRB) method. Additionally, FMC can reduce the uncertainty/error when these upscaled maps are used as input to Earth observation model (e.g., land cover change). [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a compound hierarchy to be used in cartographic labelling of streets. The main purposes of this hierarchy are to ease navigation of street maps and to provide more understandability and legibility of street features for map users. The hierarchy uses centrality measures along with functional classes of the streets to order features according to their spatial importance in each used zoom level. The calculation of a proper radius, to be employed in the calculations of centrality measures, is based on extracting proper field of view in the map user’s focus status. The used measures are integrated using fuzzy-analytic hierarchy process, yielding proper coefficients to create the hierarchy. The hierarchy is applied for the thinning process and later for using the styled layer descriptor to label street features. Quality constrains are implemented to make the street labels more understandable and readable. [Termes IGN] quasi-géoïdeRésumé : (auteur) Elevation differences have been determined through conventional ground surveying techniques for over a century. Since the mid-80s GPS, GLONASS and other satellite systems have modernized the means by which elevation differences are observed. In this article, we assessed the quality of GEIOD12B through long-occupation GNSS static surveys. A set of NGS benchmarks was occupied for at least one hour using dual-frequency GNSS receivers. Collected measurements were processed using a single CORS station at most 24 kilometers from the benchmarks. Geoid undulation values were driven by subtracting measured ellipsoidal heights from the orthometric heights posted on the NGS website. To assess the quality of GEOID12B, we compared our computed vertical shifts at the benchmarks with those estimated from GEOID12B published by NGS. In addition, Kriging model was used to interpolate local maps for the geoid undulations from the benchmark heights. The maps were compared with corresponding parts of GEOID12B. No biases were detected in the results and only shifts due to random errors were found. Discrepancies in the range of ten centimetres were noticed between our geoid undulation and the values available from NGS. [Termes IGN] précision cartographiqueRésumé : (auteur) The US Topo is a new generation of digital topographic maps delivered by the US Geological Survey (USGS). These maps include contours in the traditional 7.5-min quadrangle format. The process for producing digital elevation contours has evolved over several years, but automated production of contours for the US Topo product began in 2010. This process, which is quite complex yet fairly elegant, automatically chooses the proper USGS quadrangle, captures the corresponding 1/3 as grid points from the national elevation data set (3D Elevation Program), and adjusts elevation data to better fit water features from the National Hydrography Dataset. After additional processing, such as identifying and tagging depressions, constructing proper contours across double-line streams, and omitting contours from water bodies, contours are automatically produced for the quadrangle. The resulting contours are then compared to the contours on the original (legacy) topographic map sheets, or to the 10-m contours from the original map sheets. Where the elevation surface used to generate the contours has been derived from the previously published contours for a quadrangle, the generated contours match the legacy contours quite well. Where newer elevation sources, such as lidar, originate the elevation surface, generated contours may vary significantly from the previous cartographically produced contours due to more accurate representations of the surface, and less reliance on cartographic interpretation.
