[Termes IGN] signature polarimétriqueRésumé : (auteur) Soil parameters such as water potential, temperature, organic matter (OM), and particle size distribution influence biological activity and collectively define the state of soils, yet these properties are typically described through time-intensive, ground-based sampling efforts. To improve our understanding of soils through stand-off sensing techniques, Light Detection and Ranging was used to monitor the signature of retroreflective beads embedded in polymeric agents on four soils. Our goal was to generate probability density functions (PDFs) for stochastic predictions of the persistence of this signature through time. Our findings showed that the PDFs of the reflected signal between target and background soils became nearly indistinguishable after five months and that OM, nitrogen content, cation exchange capacity, and pH related to signature decline. This approach, while developed using polymer-bound retroreflectors, will serve as a framework where a signature-emitter is left in or on soil and differentially influenced by terrain, weather, and soil processes. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (auteur) Ground-based LiDAR has been traditionally used for surveying purposes via 3D point clouds. In addition to XYZ coordinates, an intensity value is also recorded by LiDAR devices. The intensity of the backscattered signal can be a significant source of information for various applications in geosciences.
Previous attempts to account for the scattering of the laser signal are usually modelled using a perfect diffuse reflection. Nevertheless, experience on natural outcrops shows that rock surfaces do not behave as perfect diffuse reflectors. The geometry (or relief) of the scanned surfaces plays a major role in the recorded intensity values.
Our study proposes a new terrestrial LiDAR intensity correction, which takes into consideration the range, the incidence angle and the geometry of the scanned surfaces. The proposed correction equation combines the classical radar equation for LiDAR with the bidirectional reflectance distribution function of the Oren–Nayar model. It is based on the idea that the surface geometry can be modelled by a relief of multiple micro-facets. This model is constrained by only one tuning parameter: the standard deviation of the slope angle distribution (σslope) of micro-facets.
Firstly, a series of tests have been carried out in laboratory conditions on a 2 m2 board covered by black/white matte paper (perfect diffuse reflector) and scanned at different ranges and incidence angles. Secondly, other tests were carried out on rock blocks of different lithologies and surface conditions. Those tests demonstrated that the non-perfect diffuse reflectance of rock surfaces can be practically handled by the proposed correction method.
Finally, the intensity correction method was applied to a real case study, with two scans of the carbonate rock outcrop of the Dents-du-Midi (Swiss Alps), to improve the lithological identification for geological mapping purposes. After correction, the intensity values are proportional to the intrinsic material reflectance and are independent from range, incidence angle and scanned surface geometry. The corrected intensity values significantly improve the material differentiation.Numéro de notice : A2016-532 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2015.12.004 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.isprsjprs.2015.12.004 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=81616

[Termes IGN] tomographie radarRésumé : (Auteur) The structure of forests is an important indicator of ecosystem dynamics and enables the modeling and monitoring of ecological change. Synthetic aperture radar tomography (TomoSAR) provides scene reflectivity estimation of vegetation along elevation coordinates. Due to the advantages of superresolution imaging and a small number of measurements, compressive sensing (CS) inversion techniques for SAR tomography were successfully developed and applied. This paper addresses the 3-D imaging of forested areas based on the framework of CS using fully polarimetric (FP) multibaseline SAR interferometric (MB-InSAR) tomography at P-band. A new CS-based FP MB-InSAR tomography method is proposed: a sum of Kronecker product (SKP) decomposition-based CS FP MB-InSAR tomography method (FP-SKPCS TomoSAR method). The method, based on an assumption that the reflectivity signal of a single scattering mechanism (SM) is more sparse than that of a composite of SMs, recovers the reflectivity profile of different SMs by using the CS technique. This method not only allows superresolution imaging with a low number of acquisitions but also can estimate the polarimetric SM of the vertical structure of forested areas. The effectiveness of these novel techniques for polarimetric SAR tomography is demonstrated using FP P-band airborne data sets acquired by the ONERA SETHI airborne system over a test site in Paracou, French Guiana, and the results of the vertical structure of forested areas derived by the method are verified by in situ test data. [Termes IGN] tomographie radarIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) The urbanization and the management of urban environment and its periphery become one of the most crucial issues in developed and developing countries. In these circumstances, remote sensing data are an important source of information that reflects interactions between human beings and their environment. Given their complete independence from logistic constraints on the ground, illumination (daylight), and weather (clouds) conditions, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite systems may provide important contributions in complex environments 3-D reconstruction. The new generation of high resolution SAR sensors as COSMO-SkyMed, TerraSAR-X and RADARSAT-2 allowed to acquire high resolution SAR imagery. Here the attention is put on the 3-D imaging technique called SAR Tomography: starting from a stack of images collected using multibaseline data performed in interferometric configuration, such a technique allows to retrieve height information forming a synthetic aperture in the elevation direction in order to achieve a substantially improved resolution. The present PhD thesis is focused on the high potentialities of tomographic techniques in 3-D change monitoring and characterization for complex and dense built-up areas using basic mono-dimensional estimators as Beamforming, Capon and MUSIC combined to very high satellite SAR resolution imagery. 2-D and 3-D analysis have been presented over the urban area of Paris using TerraSAR-X data at high resolution and single polarisation. Being mainly focused on the 3-D tomographic techniques, in the presented work 4-D methods, such as compressive sensing (CS), have not been taken into account. At first, the analysis of the interferometric quality of the processed data set has been performed and results showed good mean coherence values within the entire stack. The extraction of 2-D tomograms over different azimuth-profile has showed the capabilities to distinguish more than one scatterer within the same resolution cell and to reconstruct the vertical building profiles. Successively, a global 3-D characterization both in term of buildings heights and vertical reflectivity has been performed in order to develop a monitoring tool for the changes of single structures. Moreover, the possibility to correct the geometric distortions due to the layover (that strongly affects such kind of scenarios) and to determine the information about the number of scatterers (up to three) and the corresponding reflectivity within one resolution cell have been evaluated. Moreover an innovative time stability analysis of the observed scene have been carried out in order to detect the stable and unstable scatterers. Globally, the investigations showed noisier and sparser point clouds for the Capon method, whereas better capabilities for the Beamforming and MUSIC ones. Indeed, it was possible to detect different scatterers located within the same resolution cell and to resolve pixels affected by the layover. This has lead to perform a good reconstruction of building shape and location and a good estimation of their elevation. The 3-D time stability analysis demonstrated the possibility to monitor the 3-D change depending on the time. Eventually, it is possible to assert that processing high resolution SAR data allows to achieve a strong improvement in 3-D imaging capabilities. It has been demonstrated the potentialities of TomoSAR technique in distortions correction and in 3-D change monitoring using basic mono-dimensional estimators. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction
