Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) offers reflectance data over the visible to shortwave-infrared range. OLI offers several advantages, such as adequate spatial and spectral resolution, and 16 day repeat coverage, furthermore, spectral indices derived from Landsat 8 OLI possess great potential for evaluating the status of vegetation. Additionally, classification algorithms are essential for generating accurate maps. Recently, multi-Grained Cascade Forest, which is also called deep forest, was proposed, and it was shown to give highly competitive performance for classification. However, the ability of this algorithm to generate crop maps with satellite data had not yet been evaluated. In this study, the reflectance at 7 bands and 57 spectral indices calculated from Landsat 8 OLI data were evaluated for its potential for crop type identification. [Termes IGN] spectroradiomètreRésumé : (auteur) In this study, a high spectral resolution GER-2600 spectroradiometer was used to obtain the spectral data of soil samples that were polluted with four different types of petroleum–hydrocarbons products: Diesel, Gasoline, Crude Oil and Fuel Oil. The polluted soil samples were prepared in the laboratory at five concentrations levels: unpolluted soil, 2500, 100,000, 250,000 ppm and pure pollutant. Spectral data were pre-processed and then analysed with various approaches: Principal Components Transformation and ANOVA, Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM), Hydrocarbon Index (HI) and Spectral Mixture Analysis (SMA). The results showed that it was possible to determine the different spectral response between clean soil and some of the polluted soils: crude oil at concentrations higher than 100,000 ppm were the easiest to recognize; while samples polluted with gasoline at concentrations below 250,000 ppm were the most difficult to distinguish from non-polluted samples. [Termes IGN] sol nuRésumé : (Auteur) Surface roughness can be defined as the mean slope angle integrated over all scales from the grain size to the local topography. It controls the energy balance of bare soils, in particular the angular distribution of scattered and emitted radiation. This provides clues to understand the intimate structure and evolution of planetary surfaces over ages. In this article we investigate the capacity of the Hapke photometric model, the most widely used in planetary science, to retrieve surface roughness from multiangular reflectance data. Its performance is still a question at issue and we lack validation experiments comparing model retrievals with ground measurements. To address this issue and to show the potentials and limits of the Hapke model, we compare the mean slope angle determined from very high resolution digital elevation models of volcanic and sedimentary terrains sampled in the Asal-Ghoubbet rift (Republic of Djibouti), to the photometric roughness estimated by model inversion on multiangular reflectance data measured on the ground (Chamelon field goniometer) and from space (Pleiades images). The agreement is good on moderately rough surfaces, in the domain of validity of the Hapke model, and poor on others. While current techniques offer a substantial improvement regarding the quality of the reconstructed geometry, the degree of realism of the overall appearance is still lacking as the reconstruction of accurate surface appearance is highly challenging due to the complex interplay of surface geometry, reflectance properties and surrounding illumination. We present a novel approach that allows the reconstruction of both the geometry and the spatially varying surface albedo of a scene from RGB-D and IR data obtained via commodity sensors. In comparison to previous approaches, our approach offers an improved robustness and a significant speed-up to even fulfill the real-time requirements. For this purpose, we exploit the benefits of scene segmentation to improve albedo estimation due to the resulting better segment-wise coupling of IR and RGB data that takes into account the wavelength characteristics of different materials within the scene. The estimated albedo is directly integrated into the dense volumetric reconstruction framework using a novel weighting scheme to generate high-quality results. In our evaluation, we demonstrate that our approach allows albedo capturing of complicated scenarios including complex, high-frequent and strongly varying lighting as well as shadows.
