[Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) Monocular depth estimation is a fundamental yet challenging task in computer vision as depth information will be lost when 3D scenes are mapped to 2D images. Although deep learning-based methods have led to considerable improvements for this task in a single image, most existing approaches still fail to overcome this limitation. Supervised learning methods model depth estimation as a regression problem and, as a result, require large amounts of ground truth depth data for training in actual scenarios. Unsupervised learning methods treat depth estimation as the synthesis of a new disparity map, which means that rectified stereo image pairs need to be used as the training dataset. Aiming to solve such problem, we present an encoder-decoder based framework, which infers depth maps from monocular video snippets in an unsupervised manner. First, we design an unsupervised learning scheme for the monocular depth estimation task based on the basic principles of structure from motion (SfM) and it only uses adjacent video clips rather than paired training data as supervision. Second, our method predicts two confidence masks to improve the robustness of the depth estimation model to avoid the occlusion problem. Finally, we leverage the largest scale and minimum depth loss instead of the multiscale and average loss to improve the accuracy of depth estimation. The experimental results on the benchmark KITTI dataset for depth estimation show that our method outperforms competing unsupervised methods. [Termes IGN] réserve forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Microwave and optical imaging methods react differently to different land surface parameters and, thus, provide highly complementary information. However, the contribution of individual features from these two domains of the electromagnetic spectrum for tree species classification is still unclear. For large-scale forest assessments, it is moreover important to better understand the domain-specific limitations of the two sensor families, such as the impact of cloudiness and low signal-to-noise-ratio, respectively. In this study, seven deciduous and five coniferous tree species of the Austrian Biosphere Reserve Wienerwald (105,000 ha) were classified using Breiman’s random forest classifier, labeled with help of forest enterprise data. In nine test cases, variations of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 imagery were passed to the classifier to evaluate their respective contributions. By solely using a high number of Sentinel-2 scenes well spread over the growing season, an overall accuracy of 83.2% was achieved. With ample Sentinel-2 scenes available, the additional use of Sentinel-1 data improved the results by 0.5 percentage points. This changed when only a single Sentinel-2 scene was supposedly available. In this case, the full set of Sentinel-1-derived features increased the overall accuracy on average by 4.7 percentage points. The same level of accuracy could be obtained using three Sentinel-2 scenes spread over the vegetation period. On the other hand, the sole use of Sentinel-1 including phenological indicators and additional features derived from the time series did not yield satisfactory overall classification accuracies (55.7%), as only coniferous species were well separated. [Termes IGN] transport urbainRésumé : (auteur) Accurate and robust short-term bus travel prediction facilitates operating the bus fleet to provide comfortable and flexible bus services. The built environment, including land use, buildings, and public facilities, has an important influence on bus travel demand prediction. However, previous studies regarded the built environment as a static feature thus even ignored its influence on bus travel in deep learning framework. To fill this gap, we propose a graph deep learning-based approach coupling with spatiotemporal influence of built environment (GDLBE) to enhance short-term bus travel demand prediction. A time-dependent geographically weighted regression method is used to resolve the dynamic influence of the built environment on bus travel demand at different times of the day. A graph deep learning module is used to capture the comprehensive spatial and temporal dependency behind massive bus travel demand. The short-term bus travel demand is predicted by fusing the dynamic built environment influences and spatiotemporal dependency. An experiment in Shenzhen is conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach. Baseline methods are compared, and the results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the baselines. These results will help bus fleet dispatch for smart transportation. [Termes IGN] Wuhan (Chine)Résumé : (auteur) Detecting interchanges in road networks benefit many applications, such as vehicle navigation and map generalization. Traditional approaches use manually defined rules based on geometric, topological, or both properties, and thus can present challenges for structurally complex interchange. To overcome this drawback, we propose a graph-based deep learning approach for interchange detection. First, we model the road network as a graph in which the nodes represent road segments, and the edges represent their connections. The proposed approach computes the shape measures and contextual properties of individual road segments for features characterizing the associated nodes in the graph. Next, a semi-supervised approach uses these features and limited labeled interchanges to train a graph convolutional network that classifies these road segments into an interchange and non-interchange segments. Finally, an adaptive clustering approach groups the detected interchange segments into interchanges. Our experiment with the road networks of Beijing and Wuhan achieved a classification accuracy >95% at a label rate of 10%. Moreover, the interchange detection precision and recall were 79.6 and 75.7% on the Beijing dataset and 80.6 and 74.8% on the Wuhan dataset, respectively, which were 18.3–36.1 and 17.4–19.4% higher than those of the existing approaches based on characteristic node clustering. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (auteur) We introduce a new general-purpose approach to deep learning on three-dimensional surfaces based on the insight that a simple diffusion layer is highly effective for spatial communication. The resulting networks are automatically robust to changes in resolution and sampling of a surface—a basic property that is crucial for practical applications. Our networks can be discretized on various geometric representations, such as triangle meshes or point clouds, and can even be trained on one representation and then applied to another. We optimize the spatial support of diffusion as a continuous network parameter ranging from purely local to totally global, removing the burden of manually choosing neighborhood sizes. The only other ingredients in the method are a multi-layer perceptron applied independently at each point and spatial gradient features to support directional filters. The resulting networks are simple, robust, and efficient. Here, we focus primarily on triangle mesh surfaces and demonstrate state-of-the-art results for a variety of tasks, including surface classification, segmentation, and non-rigid correspondence.
