Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] requête spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) With the rapid advancements in positioning technologies such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and wireless communications, the tracking of continuously moving objects has become more convenient. However, this development poses new challenges to database technology since maintaining up-to-date information regarding the location of moving objects incurs an enormous amount of updates. Existing indexes can no longer keep up with the high update rate while providing speedy retrieval at the same time. This study aims to improve k nearest neighbor (kNN) query performance while reducing update costs. Our approach is based on an important observation that queries usually occur around certain places or spatial landmarks of interest, called reference points. We propose the Reference-Point-based tree (RP-tree), which is a two-layer index structure that indexes moving objects according to reference points. Experimental results show that the RP-tree achieves significant improvement over the TPR-tree. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Rule-based cellular automata (CA) have been increasingly applied to the simulation of geographical phenomena, such as urban evolution and land-use changes. However, these models have difficulties and uncertainties in soliciting transition rules for a large complex region. This paper presents an extended cellular automaton in which transition rules are represented by using case-based reasoning (CBR) techniques. The common k-NN algorithm of CBR has been modified to incorporate the location factor to reflect the spatial variation of transition rules. Multi-temporal remote-sensing images are used to obtain the adaptation knowledge in the temporal dimension. This model has been applied to the simulation of urban development in the Pearl River Delta which has a hierarchy of cities. Comparison indicates that this model can produce more plausible results than rule-based CA in simulating this large complex region in 1988-2002. [Termes IGN] variogrammeRésumé : (Auteur) The k-nearest neighbour estimation method is one of the main tools used in multi-source forest inventories. It is a powerful non-parametric method for which estimates are easy to compute and relatively accurate. One downside of this method is that it lacks an uncertainty measure for predicted values and for areas of an arbitrary size. We present a method to estimate the prediction uncertainty based on the variogram model which derives the necessary formula for the k-nn method. A data application is illustrated for multi-source forest inventory data, and the results are compared at pixel level to the conventional RMSE method. We find that the variogram model-based method which is analytic, is competitive with the RMSE method. [Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The ability to distinguish between different types of surfaces is the strength of texture descriptors in the analysis of satellite imagery. Although the most common analytical means are based on co-occurrence analysis, considerable progress has been made in understanding the role of fractal and multifractal analysis in remote sensing. After indicating the limitations of using fractal dimensions as the only texture descriptor and introducing the concept of multifractal geometry, we consider the effectiveness of using multifractal and second-order fractal features in image classification. In particular, we present the results of comparing two supervised classifications of an Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) image of Scotland using classical texture features and multifractal second-order fractal ones. In terms of percentage correct and Khat statistics, this study provides evidence, with a confidence limit of 95%, that classifications using multifractal and second-order fractal features are more accurate than those using classical features. The classification algorithm used for this study is a typical minimum distance classifier.
