Contrary to the majority of existing methods, we focus not only on trajectory estimation accuracy, but also on reconstruction precision. The key technique is SDF-2-SDF registration, which is a correspondence-free, symmetric, dense energy minimization method, performed via the direct voxel-wise difference between a pair of signed distance fields. It has a wider convergence basin than traditional point cloud registration and cloud-to-volume alignment techniques. Furthermore, its formulation allows for straightforward incorporation of photometric and additional geometric constraints. We employ SDF-2-SDF registration in two applications. First, we perform small-to-medium scale object reconstruction entirely on the CPU. To this end, the camera is tracked frame-to-frame in real time. Then, the initial pose estimates are refined globally in a lightweight optimization framework, which does not involve a pose graph. We combine these procedures into our second, fully real-time application for larger-scale object reconstruction and SLAM. It is implemented as a hybrid system, whereby tracking is done on the GPU, while refinement runs concurrently over batches on the CPU. To bound memory and runtime footprints, registration is done over a fixed number of limited-extent volumes, anchored at geometry-rich locations. Extensive qualitative and quantitative evaluation of both trajectory accuracy and model fidelity on several public RGB-D datasets, acquired with various quality sensors, demonstrates higher precision than related techniques. [Termes IGN] programmation dynamiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This work addresses the generation of high quality digital surface models by fusing multiple depths maps calculated with the dense image matching method. The algorithm is adapted to very high resolution multi-view satellite images, and the main contributions of this work are in the multi-view fusion. The algorithm is insensitive to outliers, takes into account the matching quality indicators, handles non-correlated zones (e.g. occlusions), and is solved with a multi-directional dynamic programming approach. No geometric constraints (e.g. surface planarity) or auxiliary data in form of ground control points are required for its operation. Prior to the fusion procedures, the RPC geolocation parameters of all images are improved in a bundle block adjustment routine. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated on two VHR (Very High Resolution)-satellite image datasets (Pléiades, WorldView-3) revealing its good performance in reconstructing non-textured areas, repetitive patterns, and surface discontinuities. [Termes IGN] urbanismeRésumé : (auteur) Systematically assessing the influence of new urban plans is an important challenge for designing them efficiently. In this paper, we propose a method to assess the influence of local ‘Right to Build’ regulations on constructibility. Our method is based on an optimization algorithm that generates building configurations. This method requires a geographic model that supports the formalization of the Right to Build regulation in order to check if a building respects it. The proposed approach relies on the trans-dimensional simulated annealing optimization method, which produces building configurations composed of a set of parametric objects (boxes in our implementation). Our proposition is released as the SimPLU3D Open-Source project (http://ignf.github.io/simplu3D/). In this paper, we present some tests and results based on this implementation and a use related to the assistance to ‘Right to Build’ designers. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Optimal seamline detection is a key step when composing digital orthophotomaps (DOM) of extensive areas from overlapping ortho‐images. To avoid seamlines passing through buildings when mosaicking, seamline detection between adjacent ortho‐images is casted as a graph‐cut problem. To avoid buildings, colour differences and gradient magnitude derived from the ortho‐images, together with approximate object heights derived from a digital surface model (DSM), are combined for constructing the cost term of the graph. To efficiently obtain an approximate height value for each DOM unit, an expanded normalised DSM is proposed. Furthermore, the designed cost term for final composite ortho‐image merging is weighted to prioritise pixels closest to the nadir point. Experiments with strips of aerial images show that the proposed method obtains seamless mosaicking of ortho‐images without manual work.
