[Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) The paper discusses aspects of evaluating the results of digital correlation used in photogrammetic high precision application. The most common correlation techniques are compared with respect to their optimization criteria. Results from practical and theoretical investigations concerning the sensitivity of the methods with respect to deviations of the mathematical model from reality are given. The aim of the paper is to provide some insight into the dependency of the main parameters of digital image correlation on the image texture, e.g. the pixel and the patch size, the quality of approximate values, the influence of unmodeled geometric distortions or of correlated noise. The results are useful for increasing the adaptility of the methods. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageIndex. décimale : 35.20 Traitement d'image Résumé : (Auteur) Remote sensing of the earth's surface began with the use of aerial photography in the early 1900s. Aerial mapping cameras and photointerpretation were the tools used until the late 1960s, when the first multispectral scanner systems were flown on aircraft. A parallel interest developed at that time in the quantitative processing and analysis of numerical data from these scanners, and since the advent of the Landsat series of satellites in 1972, digital image processing and classification has become an increasingly important aspect of remote sensing. It is now essential that all students of remote sensing, whether in geology, geography, ecology, or any of the other professions that use remote sensing, be familiar with the techniques used for processing digital images.
This book is designed to introduce these students to computer image processing and classification (commonly called "pattern recognition" in other applications). There has been a need for such a book for some time. Most image processing texts are directed to engineering students and are consequently predominantly mathematical in nature. Furthermore, they usually treat remote sensing as only one application of computer image analysis (justifiably, from their perspective) and include many topics, such as data compression and computer vision, that are of little interest to most remote sensing applications scientists. On the other hand, remote sensing textbooks often present digital image processing in a superficial way, with minimal discussion of the computer algorithms involved, the options that may be available for certain kinds of processing, and the advantages and disadvantages of different processing algorithms. I believe that it is important for scientists who apply remote sensing techniques in their discipline to have a more knowledgeable perspective on digital image processing, without, however, an undue emphasis on the theory and mathematical formulations that may be involved.Note de contenu : Chapter 1. : Fundamentals
