[Termes IGN] séparateur à vaste margeRésumé : (auteur) Suspended sediment concentration (SSC) is one of the primary reasons with respect to watersheds or river basins, which must be assessed in a correct manner so that it will help decision makers to make right decisions regarding hydraulic structure, flash-flood, flood-mitigation of the basin. The present research evaluated efficacy of a hybrid model integrating Support Vector Machine with Whale optimization algorithm (SVM-WOA) for predicting SSC at Sundargarh and Salebhata stations in Mahanadi River, India. Various quantitative statistical evaluation constrains are applied to evacuate the model performance. Also, model performance of SVM-WOA is compared with SVM-PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) and conventional SVM and RBFN (Radial Basis Function Network) models. The results reveal that, SVM-WOA performed superiorly in comparison to SVM-PSO, SVM and RBFN models for five different input scenarios during both training and testing phases. Hence, it is recommended to apply SVM-WOA as an appropriate technique for hydrological simulation at the basin. [Termes IGN] vaseRésumé : (Auteur) A remote sensing method combining remote sensing and ground surveying is proposed to extract tidal flat topographic information via the spatial distribution characteristics of tidal flat surface features. Based on the eastern Chongming beach of the Yangtze Estuary and Landsat-5 satellite images, this study identifies the spatial distribution characteristics of tidal flat features using field-based RTK data and spectral data. The remote sensing method for extracting the geometric and physical characteristics of linear and surface geographical elements on tidal flats and the elevation assignment method are discussed. The effectiveness of this method is verified by the quality of the resultant tidal flat DEM. The results show that the use of spatial distribution features in remote sensing images can provide rich topographic information. The DEM results have an accuracy of 0.16 m, are in line with the basic topographic patterns of tidal flats, and can describe local microscale geomorphic features. This technique solves the problem of a single topographic information source in current remote sensing measurement methods and provides technical support for detecting dynamic changes in coastal zones by using remote sensing technology. [Termes IGN] volcanRésumé : (Auteur) Statistical measures of patterns (textures) in surface roughness are used to quantitatively differentiate volcanic deposit facies on the Pumice Plain, on the northern flank of Mount St. Helens (MSH). Surface roughness values are derived from a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) point cloud collected in 2004 from a fixed-wing airborne platform. Patterns in surface roughness are characterized using co-occurrence texture statistics. Pristine-pyroclastic, reworked-pyroclastic, mudflow, boulder beds, eroded lava flows, braided streams, and other units within the Pumice Plain are all found to have significantly distinct roughness textures. The MSH deposits are reasonably accessible, and the textural variations have been verified in the field. Results of this work indicate that by affecting the distribution of large clasts and tens-of-meter scale landforms, modification of pyroclastic deposits by lahars alters the morphology of the surface in detectable quantifiable ways. When a lahar erodes a pyroclastic deposit, surface roughness increases, as does the randomness in the deposit surface. Conversely, when a lahar deposits material, the resulting landforms are less rough but more random than pristine pumice-rich pyroclastic deposits. By mapping these relationships and others, volcanic deposit facies can be differentiated. This new method of mapping, based on roughness texture, has the potential to aid mapping efforts in more remote regions, both on this planet and elsewhere in the solar system. [Termes IGN] sédimentationRésumé : (Auteur) The advent of satellite remote sensing has provided a huge opportunity to geomorphologists to study the temporal dynamics of large rivers. The repetitive coverage of satellite data is an important archive to reconstruct historical-scale dynamics of large rivers and to understand the causal factors. In the lower reaches of the Ganga River around Farakka, natural as well as anthropogenic factors have influenced large-scale dynamics of the river during the last 234 years. The construction of the Farakka barrage was started in 1961 and was completed in 1971 except the feeder canal. The barrage was finally commissioned in 1975 but the serious problems of aggradation both upstream and downstream of the barrage had started much earlier resulting in significant changes in channel morphology and position. The channel upstream of the Farakka barrage has moved towards the east but channel shifting downstream of the Farakka barrage has been erratic. We argue that sedimentological readjustments due to aggradation and bar growth are the major factors influencing the river dynamics in this region. [Termes IGN] plante halophileRésumé : (Auteur) The Westerschelde estuary is the only major uncontrolled estuary in the south of The Netherlands. More than 15000 ships per year use it to access the Belgian port of Antwerp. A major dredging operation along the Westerschelde in the late 1990s has changed the tidal regime and increased tidal inundation of the salt marshes at high tide. Airborne remote sensing (CASI) has been acquired in 1998 and 2000 for three salt marsh sites in the Westerschelde estuary. An additional dataset exists for one site for 1993. The CASI data have been classified into maps of salt marsh vegetation. These provide an input for GIS-based modelling of sediment erosion/accretion. Maps of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values allow change detection: successional change of salt marsh vegetation is clearly demonstrated. The 1993, 1998 and 2000 data show a successional trend between 1993 and 1998 that is, in part, reversing between 1998 and 2000. Data also showed significant erosion of the salt marsh edge. Data are being used to extrapolate field measurements and help produce sediment budgets for the individual salt marshes.
