Several applications are available that do not require a user expert or expensive equipment. In this paper, four free systems were applied in two cases: ReMake, which is a freemium software, CMP Web Service and Arc 3D, which are free web services, and Visual SfM, which is a free software. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the applications that support topographical measurements and to assess the potential for their use in accurate modelling. The results show that these systems can be an auxiliary technique for surveyors and can provide an advantage in some cases. [Termes IGN] OpenStreetMapRésumé : (Auteur) Audio files entered cartography about 25 years ago. Since the mid-1990s, several examples of audiovisual maps have been created and published. These maps cover a diverse range of applications. In terms of the sound elements implemented, four characteristic variants were mainly used: abstract sounds/sound sequences, language recordings, and music and recordings/simulations of the real soundscape. To built audiovisual maps technically, several tools of animation software solutions were intensively explored. The rising importance of the World Wide Web also increased the demand for new and modern web-based approaches of multimedia cartography. One of the core technologies of the Internet is the programming language JavaScript (JS). The language is often associated with the so-called libraries which are applied programming packages pre-written for particular purposes. In cartography, one of the most popular and widely used JS libraries is leaflet.js. This open-source library is known for its simplicity and, meanwhile, it also supports a straightforward integration of multimedia content, such as audio files. It also teams up with HTML5 and CSS3. This paper intends to give a workflow focused on how to create individual audiovisual web mapping applications based on the contemporary options offered by leaflet.js. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Automatic map generalization is a complex task that is still a research problem and requires the development of research prototypes before being usable in productive map processes. In the meantime, reproducible research principles are becoming a standard. Publishing reproducible research means that researchers share their code and their data so that other researchers might be able to reproduce the published experiments, in order to check them, extend them, or compare them to their own experiments. Open source software is a key tool to share code and software, and CartAGen is the first open source research platform that tackles the overall map generalization problem: not only the building blocks that are generalization algorithms, but also methods to chain them, and spatial analysis tools necessary for data enrichment. This paper presents the CartAGen platform, its architecture and its components. The main component of the platform is the implementation of several multi-agent based models of the literature such as AGENT, CartACom, GAEL, CollaGen, or DIOGEN. The paper also explains and discusses different ways, as a researcher, to use or to contribute to CartAGen. [Termes IGN] variableRésumé : (Auteur) There is a keen interest in calculating spatial associations between two variables spanning the same study area. Many methods for calculating such associations have been proposed, but the case when both variables are categorical is underdeveloped despite the fact that many datasets of interest are in the form of either regionalizations or thematic maps. In this paper, we advance this case by adapting the so-called -measure method from its original information-theoretical formulation to the analysis of variance formulation which provides more insight for spatial analysis. We present a step-by-step derivation of the -measure from the perspective of the analysis of variance. The method produces three indices of global association and two sets of local association indicators which could be mapped to indicate spatial distribution of association strength. The open-source software for calculating all indices from vector datasets accompanies the paper. To showcase the utility of the -measure, we identified three different application contexts: comparative, associative, and derivative, and present an example of each of them. The -measure method has several advantages over the widely used Mapcurves method, it has clear interpretations in terms of mutual information as well as in terms of analysis of variance, it provides more precise assessment of association, it is ready-to-use through the accompanying software, and the examples given in the paper serves as a guide to the gamut of its possible applications. Two specific contributions stemming from our re-analysis of the -measure are the finding of the conceptual flaw in the Geographical Detector—a method to quantify associations between numerical and categorical spatial variables, and a proposal for the new, cartographically based algorithm for finding an optimal number of regions in clustering-derived regionalizations.
