[Termes IGN] système de gestion de base de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Qualitative GIS is a relatively new methodological approach for analyzing and visualizing qualitative data within a geographic context. Qualitative data can take many forms, including interviews, documents, photographs, and audio and video clips. Content analysis for example, is an effective qualitative method for analyzing text-based data. We argue that basic concepts, (i.e. how to store data, data requirements, visualization techniques, and modes of analysis) within qualitative GIS have not been adequately defined, rendering difficult the replication of work performed and hindering the development of incremental knowledge in the field. Database management systems provide a means for storing, managing, and analyzing qualitative GIS data. A standardized and well-designed open source database system provides a mechanism for qualitative GIS projects, ensuring consistency and project replication. Qualitative GIS data stored in a database allows for additional visualization options, such as geographic word clouds. To demonstrate the concepts we performed content analysis on Master Transportation Plans from Calgary and Montreal using SpatiaLite, an open source database system. We developed Structured Query Language (SQL) queries to generate and populate groups and theme tables within the SpatiaLite database. We present our database design and queries in the hopes that they will help others conducting qualitative GIS research. [Termes IGN] technologieRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents the development of an “all-in-one” software tool, called “gittok” [pronounced: jee-tock, ʤiːtɒk] that assists both higher education students and industry professionals in learning about Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) based on the concepts of geospatial standards. While there are a number of popular and advanced open source Geographic Information Science (GIS) systems and tools, the software designed in this research is not a GIS, but an education assistance tool that helps to teach the basic concepts of GIT. Gittok was designed around the basic concept of using geospatial standards to help with learning the knowledge areas of GIT. Gittok allows students to acquire and edit geospatial data directly in compliance with an application schema. Users of the gittok software can gain an overview of GIT and directly experience, through “hands-on” operation, spatial analysis, XML data exchange, geo-library management and map design. Therefore, the authors hope that gittok will become a popular and useful tool for GIT education. [Termes IGN] retard troposphériqueRésumé : (auteur) Observation data sets from three different periods and 23 International GNSS Service (IGS) stations spread over the world were processed in static mode using four online free precise point positioning (PPP) services: Automatic Precise Positioning Service (APPS), GPS Analysis and Positioning Software, Canadian Spatial Reference System precise point positioning service, and Magic-PPP. The estimated positions of the 23 IGS stations were compared with the published values. The estimated zenith tropospheric delays (ZTDs) at these stations were compared with the corresponding IGS troposphere products published on the IGS Web site. Furthermore, in order to analyze PPP precision for short observation periods, GPS observation data sets with a sampling rate of 1 s collected by one CORS station were also processed by the four online PPP services. Calculation shows that the precision of daily solutions for north and east (N/E) components estimated by the four online PPP services can reach millimeter level, the precision of ellipsoid elevation (H) can reach 1–2 cm, and precision of ZTDs estimation results is approximately 1–2 cm. Compared with the corresponding values published on the IGS Web site, the precision of ZTDs estimated by APPS is higher than those estimated by the other three PPP online services; the differences between ZTDs by APPS and IGS values are mostly within ±1 cm. For PPP with short observation periods, the precision of N/E components within 2, 1, and 0.5 h observation periods can reach about 2–3, 2–7, and 3–8 cm, respectively, while the precision of H components is about 3–5, 5–12, and 10–18 cm, respectively.
