Hyperspectral analysis of water quality has the potential of enhancing the abilities of resource managers to monitor water bodies in a timely and cost-effective manner. [Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (Auteur) This article presents an innovative approach to citizen-led production of Web-based geographic information where new and/or existing digital map features are linked to annotations or commentary and citizens engage in synchronous and/or asynchronous discussion. The article discusses the relationship of the approach to public participation geographic information systems (PPGISs) and the emerging challenges associated with volunteered geographic information. A custom-developed, open source software tool named MapChat is used to facilitate the citizen inputs and discussions. The information generated from applying the approach through a series of community workshops is presented and discussed in light of current issues in PPGIS and volunteered geographic information research. [Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (Auteur) Within the activities of the United Nations University, the ITC School on Disaster GeoInformation Management (UNU-ITC DGIM) at the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) has developed WebRiskCity, an Open Source WebGIS platform for multi-risk assessment. The platform is a support to the RiskCity project, a GIS distance education course for multi-hazard risk assessment. The course has a guide book which gives the theoretical background behind the spatial data requirements for risk and hazard assessment procedures, generation of elements-at-risk databases, vulnerability assessment, qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods, and risk evaluation. The architecture of WebRiskCity is based on a hierarchic structure similar to the original RiskCity dataset. Different switches for every component of the risk assessment have been defined, and through various menus, the user can select the options for each exercise. Tools for spatial analysis are implemented to compare maps at different scales and for on-line interpretations. A complete educational database was compiled, merging original layers of local authority and simulated data. The purpose of WebRiskCity is to be a tool of knowledge and education for risk assessment, as well as to provide a means of supporting non-academic staff, and non-governmental organizations and stakeholders, whose knowledge in risk management is vital, but often lacks a scientific base. [Termes IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Interpretation of spatial features often requires combined reasoning over geometry and semantics. We introduce the Space package, an open source SWI-Prolog extension that provides spatial indexing capabilities. Together with the existing semantic web reasoning capabilities of SWI-Prolog, this allows efficient integration of spatial and semantic queries and provides an infrastructure for declarative programming with space and semantics. There are few systems that provide indexing and reasoning facilities for both spatial and semantic data. A common solution is to combine separate semantic reasoning and geospatial services. Such loose coupling has the disadvantage that each service cannot make use of the statistics of the other. This makes optimization of such a service-oriented architecture hard. The SWI-Prolog Space and Semantic web packages provide a native Prolog interface to both spatial and semantic indexing and reasoning, which makes it easy to write combined query optimizers. Another advantage of the Space package is that it allows declarative logic programming, which means in practice that you say what you want to compute instead of how to compute it. The actual indexing machinery is encapsulated inside Prolog predicates. In this article we describe the interface of the Space package, compare its functionality to alternative software libraries, and show how to work with it using three example applications. These example illustrations include reasoning over movement patterns, dynamically loading geospatial linked data off the semantic web, and setting up a simple KML server.
