[Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) Most stereovision and Structure from Motion (SfM) methods rely on the pinhole camera model based on perspective projection. From this hypothesis the fundamental matrix and the epipolar constraints are derived, which are the milestones of pose estimation. In this article we present a method based on the matrix factorization due to Tomasi and Kanade that relies on a simpler camera model, resulting in orthographic projection. This method can be used for the pose estimation of perspective cameras in configurations where other methods fail, in particular, when using cameras with long focal length lenses. We show this projection is an approximation of the pinhole camera model when the camera is far away from the scene. The performance of our implementation of this pose estimation method is compared to that given by the perspective-based methods for several configurations using both synthetic and real data. We show through some examples and experiments that the accuracy achieved and the robustness of this method make it worth considering in any SfM procedure. [Termes IGN] transformation de coordonnéesRésumé : (auteur) In coordinate transformation, the main purpose is to provide a mathematical relationship between coordinates related to different geodetic reference frames. This gives the geospatial professionals the opportunity to link different datums together. Review of previous studies indicates that empirical and soft computing models have been proposed in recent times for coordinate transformation. The main aim of this study is to present the applicability and performance of Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM) which is an extension of the Support Vector Machine (SVM) for coordinate transformation. For comparison purpose, the SVM and the widely used Backpropagation Neural Network (BPNN), Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN), 2D conformal and affine methods were also employed. To assess how well the transformation results fit the observed data, the root mean square of the residual horizontal distances and standard deviation were used. From the results obtained, the LS-SVM and RBFNN had comparable results and were better than the other methods. The overall statistical findings produced by LS-SVM met the accuracy requirement for cadastral surveying applications in Ghana. To this end, the proposed LS-SVM is known to possess promising predictive capabilities and could efficiently be used as a supplementary technique for coordinate transformation. [Termes IGN] projection Universal Transverse MercatorRésumé : (auteur) The purpose of this paper is to recall th fundamental concept of the plane cylindrical representations of the earth, especially those which are conformal. Amongst these, the most known and used projection throughout the world is the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM). The algorithm of calculation presented here, developed by French IGN, has the advantage of using exact formulas and not limited developments like many others, and thus of beeing easily computerized. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Equivalence (the equal-area property of a map projection) is important to some categories of maps. However, unlike for conformal projections, completely general techniques have not been developed for creating new, computationally reasonable equal-area projections. The literature describes many specific equal-area projections and a few equal-area projections that are more or less configurable, but flexibility is still sparse. This work develops a tractable technique for generating a continuum of equal-area projections between two chosen equal-area projections. The technique gives map projection designers unlimited choice in tailoring the projection to the need. The technique is particularly suited to maps that dynamically adapt optimally to changing scale and region of interest, such as required for online maps.
