[Termes IGN] transfert radiatifRésumé : (Auteur) The effect of soil surface texture on spectral reflectance is reported for a site in the Mojave Desert. Abandoned central-pivot agricultural fields in the Manix Basin of southeastern California have introduced deflationary surface, into the otherwise stable, armored desert surface. This has resulted in sand plumes, eroded from the fields by wind, transported by saltation and deposited downwind of the fields. Grain size analysis of this wind-transported material reveals a fractionation by size within the plume, with smaller effective particle size toward the toe of the plume. This fractionation results from the greater mobility of smaller particles, and the longer saltation paths they take once airborne. Radiative transfer modeling of quartz grains with absorbing rinds indicates that the difference in grain size observed in the field should be revealed in apparent surface reflectance and are resolvable within the noise-equivalent delta-reflectance of the Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) instrument. Analysis of AVIRIS-derived apparent surface reflectance demonstrates the expected negative correlation between effective grain size of sand in the plume and reflectance, with the most significant correlations in the short-wave infrared. The change in reflectance per mm change in particle diameter was - 0.06 at & ~ 1.7 um and - 0.08 at & ~ 2.2 um with R2 = 0.89 and 0.93, respectively. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) The present investigation was an attempt to develop a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) for a test Nagwan watershed situated in the Damodar Barakar catchment in India, the second most seriously eroded area in the world, for not only estimating sediment yields under prevailing resource management systems but also designing a linear programming (LP)based- optimized land-use plan for soil loss reduction in the test watershed. The proposed SDSS was validated on 9 years (1981-1983, 1985-1989, and 1991) of sediment yield data for the test watershed. This showed that the SDSS could mimic the annual dynamics of the total sediment yields at the test watershed outlet with a correlation coefficient of 0.65, model efficiency coefficient of 0.70, mean relative error of 17.97%, and root mean square prediction error of 9.63t ha-1. It could also be used as an efficient tool for assessing sediment yields from different parts of the test watershed and for designing a linear programming (LP)-based optimized land-use plan for reduced total sediment yields from the test watershed. The LP-based land-use plan proposed no change in the total areas under paddy, corn and forest land-use types but suggested their re-distribution within the test watershed's total sediment yield by about 14.61% but also an increase in its paddy and corn crop productivities by 2.80 and 68.14%, respectively. The proposed LP-based land-use plan for the test watershed could thus lead to an enhanced productivity benefit of about Rs 3735ha-1, in monetary terms, from corn crop cultivation at its optimal locations. [Termes IGN] turbidité océaniqueRésumé : (Auteur) New photobathymetry and water quality software is described here that utilizes subpixel analysis software (Subpixel Classifier) with an autonomous image calibration procedure and analytic retrieval algorithm to simultaneously retrieve and report bottom depth and the concentrations of suspended chlorophyll, suspended sediments, and colored dissolved organic carbon on a perpixel basis from four-band multispectral image data. From the derived composition, the QSC2 (Quantitative Shoreline Characterization, Version 2.0) software also computes and reports water column visibility parameters (vertical and horizontal subsurface sighting ranges and turbidity, each at four wavelength band passes, plus Secchi depth as a scalar) as well as depth and turbidity confidence. Qsc2 compensates for the effects of the atmosphere, sun and sky reflections from the water surface, subpixel contributions from exposed land, and variations in the bottom material properties. All information is derived automatically from the pixel data alone. The performance of the Qsc2 software was demonstrated using a four-band Ikonos image of Plymouth, Massachusetts. Accuracies of the image-derived compositions, water clarity, and depths were assessed using field and laboratory measurements for eight representative lakes in the scene. The means of the differences of the field-measured and image-derived suspended chlorophyll and colored dissolved organic carbon concentrations for the eight lakes were 1.82 ug/l and 4.34 mgC/1, respectively. The image-derived concentrations of suspended sediments were all below the threshold of detection for the field samples (5 mg/1), in agreement with the field data. The mean of the differences between field-measured and image-derived Secchi depths was 0.76 m. The mean depth difference was 0.57 m. The automation of reliefs feature extraction is in a transition period and has now to lead the users to practical solutions in their Systems. This corresponds also to the emergence of a great variety of acquisition modes for DTM, and a fast-growing production of elevation data. The scope of this study aims to provide a practical illustration of geomorphometric descriptive parameters extraction. First, on the basis of simple criteria linked to the digital representation of the altitude, for which a hypothesis of modelling by polynomial regional so-called "translated functions" is introduced, the various slopes and curvatures will be represented analytically. From this base, more complex and pertinent criteria for geomorphometric features will be suggested. The survey will provide an analytical foundation for the description of the relief aimed at all those who study relief evolution processes. From the geographer point of view, this approach confirms past evolutionary processes leading to present landscape shapes and explains the role of these shapes in current and ongoing erosion phenomena by using digital data. The analytical geometric analysis provided and the objects recognized help the settlement of environmental database. Therefore, the DTM finds its place as an operationnal cornerstone data in the GIS, dedicated to the standard geo-spatial applications, and joins the tools involved by the resource and environmental monitoring.
