[Termes IGN] stationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes the methodology used to calibrate a set of six total stations over a typical NGS Calibrated Baseline (CBL), together with the results obtained. The methodology was extended to allow for the correction of some additional systematic errors in the EDM. It is presented to allow others to examine the processes used, and possibly adopt them for their own use when calibrating EDM over an NGS CBL. The measurements indicated that the 0 m point on the CBL had moved from its calibrated location by approximately 0.007 m (7 mm). Examination of the ground mark indicated a significant gouge on the brass plaque, consistent with an impact from a snow-clearing blade. This suggests that while the concrete remained intact, the brass plaque was deformed by the impact, and the zero point moved 0.007 m, lengthening lines connecting to the 0 m mark. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur)Florida is threatened by sea level rise (SLR) because of its low elevation and populous coastlines. With only a 0.3 m future water level rise, most of Florida's natural beaches will disappear; with a 1.2 m rise, 2.4 million people will be displaced and 730,000 hectares of land lost. The only way to combat this threat is through coastal policy making. Currently, counties in Florida have no way to choose “good” policies due to the lack of needed information. Using high-resolution digital elevation models (DEM) derived from airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) measurements, parcel data, and beach transects from the Army Corps of Engineers, the effects of Sea Level Rise (SLR) on two study areas in Key West (Monroe County) and Pinellas County were analyzed in this study, under three policy scenarios: armoring prohibition, armoring, and relocation (rolling easements). To better address the SLR uncertainty, a range of SLR estimates from 0.15 m to 1.35 m, in 0.15 m increments, was used to simulate the three policy options. Each policy scenario was considered in view of selected primary criteria for each policy, obtained from literature and simulating them using ArcGIS. The results show that Key West would be rapidly inundated by rising waters, leaving little room for “relocation” but the mainland of Pinellas would be inundated much more slowly, allowing for progressive policy options to be implemented. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) This study aims to correct for long-term vertical land motions at tide gauges (TG) by estimating high-accurate GPS vertical velocities at co-located stations (GPS@TG), useful for long-term sea-level change studies and satellite altimeter drift monitoring. Global Positioning System (GPS) data reanalyses are mandatory when aiming at the highest consistency of the estimated products for the whole data period. The University of La Rochelle Consortium (ULR) has carried out several GPS data reanalysis campaigns with an increasing tracking network, an improving processing strategy and the best methodology. The geodetic results from the latest GPS velocity field estimated at ULR (named ULR5) are presented here. The velocity field includes 326 globally distributed GPS stations, from which 200 are GPS@TG (30% more than previous studies). The new GPS data processing strategy, the terrestrial frame definition and the velocity estimation procedures are described. The quality of the estimated vertical velocities is empirically assessed through internal and external velocity comparisons, including the analysis of the time-correlated noise content of the position time series, to be better than 0.6 mm/yr (2 sigma). The application of this velocity field is illustrated to appraise to what extent vertical land motions contaminate the estimates of satellite altimetry drifts. The impact on the altimeter-derived sea level trends was evaluated to be up to 0.6 mm/yr. Worldwide TGs were grouped into regions in order to explore long-term spatial sea level variability in the rates of sea level change. By taking into account the vertical land motion of the tide gauges, the dispersion of the observed sea level rates within each region was reduced by 60%. Long-term regional mean sea level variations up to 70% from the global mean were found. [Termes IGN] surcharge océaniqueRésumé : (Auteur) Ocean bottom pressure (OBP) changes are caused by a redistribution of the ocean’s internal mass that are driven by atmospheric circulation, a change in the mass entering or leaving the ocean, and/or a change in the integrated atmospheric mass over the ocean areas. The only previous global analysis investigating the magnitude of OBP surface displacements used older OBP data sets (van Dam et al. in J Geophys Res 129:507–517, 1997). Since then significant improvements in meteorological forcing models used to predict OBP have been made, augmented by observations from satellite altimetry and expendable bathythermograph profiles. Using more recent OBP estimates from the Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean (ECCO) project, we reassess the amplitude of the predicted effect of OBP on the height coordinate time series from a global distribution of GPS stations. OBP-predicted loading effects display an RMS scatter in the height of between 0.2 and 3.7 mm, larger than previously reported but still much smaller (by a factor of 2) than the scatter observed due to atmospheric pressure loading. Given the improvement in GPS hardware and data analysis techniques, the OBP signal is similar to the precision of weekly GPS height coordinates. We estimate the effect of OBP on GPS height coordinate time series using the MIT reprocessed solution, mi1. When we compare the predicted OBP height time series with mi1, we find that the scatter is reduced over all stations by 0.1 mm on average with reductions as high as 0.7 mm at some stations. More importantly we are able to reduce the scatter on 65 % of the stations investigated. The annual component of the OBP signal is responsible for 80 % of the reduction in scatter on average. We find that stations located close to semi-enclosed bays or seas are affected by OBP loading to a greater extent than other stations.
