[Termes IGN] problème des valeurs limitesRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a methodology for local gravity field modelling from gravity data using spherical radial basis functions. The methodology comprises two steps: in step 1, gravity data (gravity anomalies and/or gravity disturbances) are used to estimate the disturbing potential using least-squares techniques. The latter is represented as a linear combination of spherical radial basis functions (SRBFs). A data-adaptive strategy is used to select the optimal number, location, and depths of the SRBFs using generalized cross validation. Variance component estimation is used to determine the optimal regularization parameter and to properly weight the different data sets. In the second step, the gravimetric height anomalies are combined with observed differences between global positioning system (GPS) ellipsoidal heights and normal heights. The data combination is written as the solution of a Cauchy boundary-value problem for the Laplace equation. This allows removal of the non-uniqueness of the problem of local gravity field modelling from terrestrial gravity data. At the same time, existing systematic distortions in the gravimetric and geometric height anomalies are also absorbed into the combination. The approach is used to compute a height reference surface for the Netherlands. The solution is compared with NLGEO2004, the official Dutch height reference surface, which has been computed using the same data but a Stokes-based approach with kernel modification and a geometric six-parameter “corrector surface” to fit the gravimetric solution to the GPS-levelling points. A direct comparison of both height reference surfaces shows an RMS difference of 0.6 cm; the maximum difference is 2.1 cm. A test at independent GPS-levelling control points, confirms that our solution is in no way inferior to NLGEO2004. [Termes IGN] subsidenceRésumé : (Auteur) The interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) technique is used to detect surface deformations in the French Nord-Pas-de-Calais coal mining basin. Several subsiding areas had already been observed at the sites of Lens, Billy-Montigny, Courrieres and Ostricourt during the 1992-2000 period. InSAR deformation measurements are compared with ground-based levelling measurements and an analysis of the results shows a good agreement for the relative deformations. However, the InSAR study reveals a systematic bias of the absolute levelling values. Our interpretation is that the stability points of the ground-based monitoring network probably moved during the study period. Such cross-checking is particularly important considering the current legal value of the levelling measurements. [Termes IGN] verticaleRésumé : (auteur) Monitoring vertical land motion at tide gauges is mandatory if absolute or climate related signals in mean sea level are to be derived from coastal tide gauge records. Different glacial isostatic adjustment models provide very different predictions at the required level of a few tenth of millimetres per year accuracy, while other processes that may affect the vertical stability of tide gauges are still more difficult to predict. An alternative approach is to measure the rates of vertical land motions at the tide gauges. Continuous GPS recordings are presently the most practical and accurate technical solution to address such an issue. The most adequate way to handle the GPS processing seems to be a global scale approach in consistency with the size of the issues: geocentric reference frame realization, long-term stability, global climate change. The laboratories CLDG (Centre Littoral De Géophysique) and LAREG (Laboratoire de Recherches en Géodésie) contribute to the Tide Gauge Benchmark Monitoring (TIGA) IGS pilot project since October 2002 by routinely processing a global set of about 140 GPS sites within the ULR analysis centre consortium. The set comprises about 122 TG-CGPS stations that are analysed using a free network approach. Time series of more than six years are now available. The accuracy of the vertical component is very sensitive to the reference frame definition and realization. We therefore performed some tests in order to quantify the impact of various analysis options on the stability of our realization. We compared the stability of our global solutions with respect to ITRF2000 solution and to its IGS realization called IGS00, while changing the number of reference stations and their geometry. The results indicate that the more reference stations are used the better the alignment to ITRF is performed. A large global distribution of the reference frame stations seems to mitigate individual station problems. The reference frame implementation is achieved within several millimetres accuracy on a weekly basis. The tests indicate that the choice of IGS00 or ITRF2000 datum was not a relevant issue to perform the alignment to ITRF at this level of accuracy. [Termes IGN] nivellement indirectRésumé : (Auteur) At the beginning of the twenty-first century, a technological change took place in geodetic astronomy by the development of Digital Zenith Camera Systems (DZCS). Such instruments provide vertical deflection data at an angular accuracy level of 0.?1 and better. Recently, DZCS have been employed for the collection of dense sets of astrogeodetic vertical deflection data in several test areas in Germany with high-resolution digital terrain model (DTM) data (10–50 m resolution) available. These considerable advancements motivate a new analysis of the method of astronomical-topographic levelling, which uses DTM data for the interpolation between the astrogeodetic stations. We present and analyse a least-squares collocation technique that uses DTM data for the accurate interpolation of vertical deflection data. The combination of both data sets allows a precise determination of the gravity field along profiles, even in regions with a rugged topography. The accuracy of the method is studied with particular attention on the density of astrogeodetic stations. The error propagation rule of astronomical levelling is empirically derived. It accounts for the signal omission that increases with the station spacing. In a test area located in the German Alps, the method was successfully applied to the determination of a quasigeoid profile of 23 km length. For a station spacing from a few 100 m to about 2 km, the accuracy of the quasigeoid was found to be about 1–2 mm, which corresponds to a relative accuracy of about 0.05-0.1 ppm. Application examples are given, such as the local and regional validation of gravity field models computed from gravimetric data and the economic gravity field determination in geodetically less covered regions.
