[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) The merging of a gravimetric quasigeoid model with GPS-levelling data using second-generation wavelets is considered so as to provide better transformation of GPS ellipsoïdal heights to normal heights. Since GPS-levelling data are irregular in the space domain and the classical wavelet transform relies on Fourier theory, which is unable to deal with irregular data sets without prior gridding, the classical wavelet transform is not directly applicable to this problem. Instead, second-generation wavelets and their associated lifting scheme, which do not require regularly spaced data, are used to combine gravimetric quasigeoid models and GPS-levelling data over Norway and Australia, and the results are cross-validated. Cross-validation means that GPS-levelling points not used in the merging are used to assess the results, where one point is omitted from the merging and used to test the merged surface, which is repeated for all points in the dataset. The wavelet-based results are also compared to those from least squares collocation (LSC) merging. This comparison shows that the second-generation wavelet method can be used instead of LSC with similar results, but the assumption of stationarity for LSC is not required in the wavelet method. Specifically, it is not necessary to (some-what arbitrarily) remove trends from the data before applying the wavelet method, as is the case for LSC. It is also shown that the wavelet method is better at decreasing the maximum and minimum differences between the merged geoid and the cross-validating GPS-levelling data. [Termes IGN] traitement de données GNSSIndex. décimale : 30.61 Systèmes de Positionnement par Satellites du GNSS Résumé : (Auteur) Geodetic observations are usually processed by means of the Least Squares Method. However, this algorithm delivers reliable valuations of unknown parameters und associated accuracy measures only if the functional and stochastic models are appropriate. Observations using the Global Positioning System (GPS) are affected by various influences, e.g. by the atmosphere. Hence, it seems to be a reasonable conclusion that the commonly used stochastic model of GPS-observations with a scaled identity matrix with homoscedastic (i.e. equal variance) and uncorrelated errors is not adequate. The knowledge of the stochastic behaviour of GPS-observations can be improved by analyzing time series of residuals originating from Least Squares evaluation. Based on this analysis a procedure for modifying the covariance matrix of double-differenced GPS carrier-phase observations is presented. Essentially, it consists of two steps. At first individual variance functions for all double-difference observations depending on the satellite elevation for modifying the main diagonal of its covariance matrix are estimated. Secondly, temporal correlations are determined to adapt the other parts of the covariance matrix. All steps are verified by suitable statistical tests. The procedure is applied to extensive data sets with different characteristics. The results of the evaluation process, taking into account all realizations of the stochastic model mentioned above, are presented. It is shown that modifying the main diagonal of the covariance matrix with elevation-dependent variance functions leads to significant changes in the estimated ellipsoidal height of GPS-stations only for long baselines. The accuracy measures are not affected by this modification. In contrast to these results, considering temporal correlations in the covariance matrix of GPS-double difference observations causes distinct changes in the accuracy measures of all coordinate components independently of the baseline length. [Termes IGN] terminologieRésumé : (Auteur) This is the first paper in a four-part series considering the fundamental question, "What does the word height really mean ? " National Geodetic Survey (NGS) is embarking on a height modernization program in which, in the future, it will not necessary for NGS to create new or maintain old orthometric height benchmarks. In their stead, NGS will publish measured ellipsoid heights and computed Helmert orthometric heihgts for survey markers. Consequently, practicing surveyors will soon be confronted with coping with these changes and differences between these types of height. Indeed, although "height" is commonly used word, an exact definition of it can be difficult to find. These article will explore the various meanings of height as used in surveying and geodesy and present a precise definition that is based on the physic of gravitational potential, along current best practices for using survey-grade GPS equipement for height measurement. Our goal is to review these basic concepts so that surveyors can avoid potential pitfalls that may be created by the new NGS height control era. The first paper reviews reference ellipsoids and mean sea level datums. The second paper reviews the physics of heights culminating in a simple development of the geoid and explains why mean sea level station are not all the same orthometric height. The third paper introduces geopotential numbers and dynamic heights, explains the correction needed to account for the non-parallelism of equipotential surfaces, and discusses how these correction were used in NAVD 88. The fouth paper presents a review of current best practices for heights measured with GPS. [Termes IGN] nivellement par GPSIndex. décimale : 30.40 Géodésie physique Résumé : (Auteur) In this work the question is examinated, which geoid accuracies can be achieved from gravity field functions which are measured at discrete, but very dense points. The difficult conditions for the required modelling of the topography in mountainous terrain have been considered.
In the Estergebirge mountains in the Bavarian Alps since the year 1994 a very dense network of gravity measurements, precision levelling, precise GPS height measurements and deflections of the vertical has been created, covering all height zones of the terrain. These measurements and their accuracies are described in this work. From levelling, gravity measurements and GPS measurements height anomalies and geoid heights have been determined, analyzed and compared to the german ECG97 geoid model. A precise modelling of the topographic attraction is described for gravity and the deflections of the vertical, based on a high resolution terrain model and a terrain survey of the very near zone of each data point. After the topographic reduction different disturbing bodies with anomalous densities have been detected, with typical characteristics for mountainous areas. Some of these bodies have been modelled taking into account various geophysical data. The models have been used in an adjustment to determine the densities of the topography and the disturbing bodies.
In the second part a statistical analysis of gravity disturbances from the Estergebirge and from other data sets from the Alps is carried out. Empirical signal covariance functions and spectral representations of signal power are shown. The comparison of the different data sets shows good agreement of signal properties. Using measurements in independent control points realistic errors for the continuous representation of the gravity disturbances have been obtained, depending on the density of data points. It is shown, that for high point densities the high frequent parts of the signal are still dominating the representation error, whereas errors of measurement and modelling play a minor role. The representation error computed for selected data point densities have been propagated to geoid errors and errors of spherical harmonic coefficients. The error volume is used as an intermediate step, assuming homogeneous signal properties all over the earth. By this approach it can be shown, that for a geoid error standard deviation of 1 cm the spacing of gravity measurements may not exceed about 5 km.Numéro de notice : 13161 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Thèse étrangère Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=54898 Réservation
