[Termes IGN] surface imperméableRésumé : (Auteur) Urban spectral indices have made promising improvements in the last two decades in urban land use land cover studies through mapping, estimation, change detection, time-series analyzing, urban dynamics, monitoring, modeling, and so on. Remote sensing spectral indices are unsupervised, unbiased, rapid, scalable, and quantitative in information extraction. Hence, we aimed to summarize the most relevant urban spectral indices by focusing on multispectral, thermal, and nighttime lights indices. We use the search terms "urban index", "built-up index", "normalized difference built-up area (NDBI )", "impervious surface index", and "spectral urban index" to collect relevant literature from the "Web of Science Core Collection" database. We found that all urban spectral indices developed since 2003, except NDBI. This review will help understand the applications of urban spectral indices, the selection of indices based on available spectral bands, and their merits and demerits. We match roads in the onboard images to the reference road vector map, and realize successful localization over areas as large as a whole city. The road network matching problem is treated as a point cloud registration problem under the homography transformation and solved under the hypothesize-and-test framework. To tackle the point cloud registration problem, a global projective-invariant feature is proposed, which consists of two road intersections augmented with their tangents. In addition, we propose the necessary conditions for the features to match. This can reduce the candidate matching features, thus accelerating the search to a great extent. These matching candidates are first “filtered” with the model consistency check in parameter space and then tested with similarity metrics to identify the correct transformation. The experiments show that our method can localize an aerial image over an area larger than 1000 km 2 within several seconds on a single CPU. Although dozens of methods have been proposed, current techniques suffer from two main shortcomings: the quality of the produced road networks is still far from those produced manually, and the methods are slow, making them not scalable to large inputs. In this paper, we present a fast four-step density-based approach to construct a road network from a set of trajectories. A key aspect of our method is the use of an improved version of the Slide method to adjust trajectories to build a more compact density surface. The network has comparable or better quality than that of state-of-the-art methods and is simpler (includes fewer nodes and edges). Furthermore, we also propose a split-and-merge strategy that allows splitting the data domain into smaller regions that can be processed independently, making the method scalable to large inputs. The performance of our method is evaluated with extensive experiments on urban and hiking data. However, many indoor environments lack visually salient landmarks, which leads to difficulties in navigating in and learning complex and similar-looking indoor environments. In this study, we designed and implemented virtual semantic landmarks in Mixed Reality (MR)-based indoor environments and conducted a user study to explore whether such landmarks can assist spatial knowledge acquisition during navigation. More specifically, we employed the untethered, head-mounted mixed reality device Microsoft HoloLens and used iconic holograms to show the semantic landmarks. In the user study, we used sketch map, landmark locating tasks and interview to assess the results of the spatial knowledge acquisition and collect advice on improving the MR-based navigation interface. The results show that virtual semantic landmarks can assist the acquisition of corresponding knowledge, as such landmarks were labeled second most often in landmark locating task. In addition, individual cases show that head-mounted mixed reality devices may influence not only vision, but also height or time perception of certain users. Our result can be applied to facilitate the design of MR-based navigation interfaces and assist spatial knowledge acquisition. Given the complexity of the urban scenes, urban remote sensing observation requires data with a high temporal resolution, high spatial resolution, and high spectral resolution. To the best of our knowledge, however, no satellite owns all the above characteristics. Thus, it is necessary to coordinate data from existing remote sensing satellites to meet the needs of urban observation. In this study, we abstracted the urban remote sensing observation process and proposed an urban spatio-temporal-spectral observation model, filling the gap of no existing urban remote sensing framework. In this study, we present four applications to elaborate on the specific applications of the proposed model: 1) a spatio-temporal fusion model for synthesizing ideal data, 2) a spatio-spectral observation model for urban vegetation biomass estimation, 3) a temporal-spectral observation model for urban flood mapping, and 4) a spatio-temporal-spectral model for impervious surface extraction. We believe that the proposed model, although in a conceptual stage, can largely benefit urban observation by providing a new data fusion paradigm.
