[Termes IGN] Wuhan (Chine)Résumé : (auteur) Contrast to the global forest, few trees live in cities but contribute significantly to urban environment and human health. However, the classical satellite-derived land cover/forest cover products with limited resolution are not fine enough for the identification of urban tree, which is usually appeared in small size and intersected with infrastructure. To relieve the dilemma, this study developed an urban tree specific sub-pixel mapping (SPM) architecture with deep learning approach, which aimed to generate 2m fine-scale urban tree cover product from 10 m Sentinel-2 images for large-scale area of 34 metropolises in China. The proposed approach has remarkable reconstruction ability for delineating the contextual characteristic of the urban tree patterns, and reliable generalization ability to large-scale area. In addition, this study creates a large-volume urban tree cover dataset (UTCD) with 0.13 billion urban tree samples at 2 m resolution, which fills the deficiency of standard dataset in urban tree cover research field. Quantitative analysis of our products was conducted on two typical study sites of Beijing and Wuhan. The results show that our products recover averagely more than 58.72% of urban tree covers that have been underestimated in the existing land cover/forest cover products, and outperforms the state-of-the-art approach both visually and quantitatively, by averagely 11.31% improvement in overall accuracy. From our annual products during 2016–2020, we found an evolution characteristic of urban tree cover: it is more stable in developed cities like Beijing, while more fluctuated in developing cities like Wuhan, and the alteration are usually concentrated at the outer-ring of downtown, which may be caused by the municipal planning and the land development of real estate industry. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Mapping the distribution of allergenic plants in urbanized landscapes is of high importance to evaluate its impact on human health. However, data is not always available for the allergy-relevant species such as alder, birch, hazel, especially within cities where systematic inventories are often missing or not readily available. This research presents an approach to produce high-resolution abundance maps of allergenic tree species using existing forest inventories and opportunistic open-access citizen science data. Following a two-step approach, we first built species distribution models (SDMs) to predict species habitat suitability, using environmental characteristics as predictors. Second, we used statistical regressions to model the relationships between abundance, the habitat suitability predicted by the SDMs, and additional vegetation cover covariates. The combination of forest inventory data with citizen science data improves the accuracy of abundance distribution models of allergenic tree species. This produces a continuous, 1-hectare resolution map of alder, birch, and hazel showing spatial variations of abundance distributions both within the urban fabric and along the urban–rural gradient. Species abundance modelling can offer a better understanding of the existing and potential future allergy risk posed by green spaces and pave the way for a wide variety of applications at fine-scale, which is indispensable for evidence-based urban green space policy and planning in support of public health. Based on the raw geographic information system (GIS) data laid out as sparse polylines with attributes, we compute a more adequate functional description for real-time simulation of on-road vehicle animation. The proposed approach begins with a filtering/subdivision module where the raw polylines are transformed into a graph of functional road segments as arcs and the nodes as intersections. Then, the vehicle speed profile is computed based on its dynamics, its neighborhood and the curvature profile of the road. Afterward, a multi-agent system is proposed in order to handle a large number of simulated vehicle/driver couples. Finally, we deploy a 3D rendering engine to display the computed 3D simulation on screen. The resulting model satisfies most of the real road features for traffic simulation including road interchanges, roundabouts, intersections, lanes, etc. More importantly, the simulated driving qualitatively mimics the real behavior of the drivers/vehicles on the road as can be seen in the accompanying video (RTSP video). We also validate our findings with a technical assessment based on macroscopic and microscopic traffic simulation metrics in several road traffic scenarios. To capture periodic collective dynamics, this article represents individual daily movements as a time series of directed weighted origin–destination (OD) networks, and proposes an approach to identify a sub-network called the “recurrent OD network”, which contains frequent edges appearing in each day. Taxi trajectory data over a period of 6 months in Wuhan, China are used for the case study. Here, we extracted the recurrent OD networks for each 2-h period on a given day, and compared them with the corresponding “major OD network” defined by both frequent and infrequent edges. Results show that the recurrent OD networks coincidentally exhibit spatially localized community structures and distinctive patterns of inflow and outflow for each region within a day. Overall, both methodology and findings in this study might make significant contributions in a range of fields, such as urban planning, regional economic development, and infectious disease control. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (auteur) À partir d’une typologie théorique et de données empiriques tirées d’évènements catastrophiques, cet article fournit une matrice des défaillances des réseaux interdépendants d’énergie, de transport, de télécommunications, d’eau et d’assainissement, d’alimentation et de santé. La forte urbanisation a entraîné une expansion des réseaux d’infrastructures critiques, dont les défaillances sont notamment dues à leurs interdépendances multiples et de plus en plus complexes. L’identification préalable des relations d’interdépendances s’avère alors primordiale pour prévenir des risques de défaillances. Cet article identifie quatre types d’interdépendances (fonctionnelles, géo-spatiales, procédurales et sociétales) et examine leurs rôles respectifs dans les défaillances recensées lors des ouragans Irma et Maria en 2017, de l’attentat du WTC (World Trade Center) en 2001, de la catastrophe de Fukushima en 2011, de l’éruption du volcan islandais Eyjafjallajökull en 2010, de la canicule de 2003 et du black-out en Inde de 2012. Ce travail aboutit à une matrice inter-réseaux urbains qui apporte des réponses à la question suivante : par quel(s) type(s) d’interdépendance(s), la défaillance initiale d’un réseau urbain entraîne-t-elle la défaillance d’autres réseaux ? Cette matrice met en évidence des risques-réseaux en identifiant les types d’interdépendances par lesquels les réseaux génèrent et subissent des défaillances. Cette démarche déductive permet de nuancer des relations de dépendances unidirectionnelles, réciproques et mutuelles. Nos résultats argumentent la criticité des infrastructures par la criticité du type d’interdépendance qui les relie. Une réflexion est ainsi menée sur la résilience territoriale et celle des réseaux dans des perspectives d’accroissement des interdépendances étudiées.
