[Termes IGN] précision du positionnementRésumé : (Auteur) During the HRS (High Resolution Stereo) Scientific Assessment Program the French space agency CNES delivered data sets from the HRS camera System with high precision ancillary data. Two test data sets from this program were evaluated: one is located in Germany, the other in Spain. The first goal was to derive orthoimages and digital surface models (DSM) from the along track stereo data by applying the rigorous model with direct georeferencing and without ground control points (GCPs). For the derivation of DSM, the stereo processing software, developed at DLR for the MOMS-2P three line stereo camera was used. As a first step, the interior and exterior orientation of the camera, delivered as ancillary data from positioning and attitude Systems were extracted. A dense image matching, using nearly all pixels as kernel centers provided the parallaxes. The quality of the stereo lie points was controlled by forward and backward matching of the two stereo partners using the local least squares matching method. Forward intersection lead to points in object space which are subsequently interpolated to a DSM in a regular grid. DEM filtering methods were also applied and evaluations carried out differentiating between accuracies in forest and other areas. Additionally, orthoimages were generated from the images of the two stereo looking directions. The orthoimage and DSM accuracy was determined by using GCPs and available reference DEMs of superior accuracy (DEM derived from laser data and/or classical airborne photogrammetry). As expected the results obtained without using GCPs showed a bias in the order of 5-20 m to the reference data for ail three coordinates. By image matching it could be shown that the two independently derived orthoimages exhibit a very constant shift behaviour. In a second step few GCPs (3-4) were used to calculate bore-sight alignment angles, introduced into the direct georeferencing process of each image independently. This method improved the absolute accuracy of the resulting orthoimages and DSM significantly. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a theoretical-empirical model is developed for modelling the accuracy of a grid digital elevation model (DEM) linearly constructed from scattered sample data. The theoretical component integrates sample data accuracy in the model by means of the error-propagation theory. The empirical component seeks to model what is known as information loss, i.e. the sum of the error due purely to sampling the continuous terrain surface with a finite grid interval and the interpolation error. For this purpose, randomly spaced data points, supposed to be free of error, were converted into regularly gridded data points using triangulation with linear interpolation. Original sample data were collected with a 2 x 2 m sampling interval from eight different morphologies, from flat terrain to highly rugged terrain, applying digital photogrammetric methods to large-scale aerial stereo imagery (1 :5000). The DEM root mean square error was calculated by the true validation method over several sets of check points, obtaining the different sampling densities tested in this work. Several empirical models are calibrated and validated with the experimental data set by modelling the DEM accuracy by combining two variables such as sampling density and a descriptive attribute of terrain morphology. These empirical models presented a morphology based on the product of two potential functions, one related to the terrain roughness and another related to the sampling density. The terrain descriptors tested were average terrain slope, standard deviation of terrain slope, standard deviation of unitary vectors perpendicular to the topographic surface (SDUV), standard deviation of the difference in height between adjacent samples in the grid DEM (SDHD), and roughness estimation by first-, second-, or third-degree surface fitting error. The values obtained for those terrain descriptors were reasonably independent from the number and spatial distribution of the sample data. The models based on descriptors SDHD, SDUV, and standard deviation of slope provided a good fitting to the data observed (R 2> 0.94) in the calibration phase, model SDHD being the one that yielded the best results in validation. Therefore, it would be possible to establish a priori the optimum grid size required to generate or store a DEM of a particular accuracy, with the saving in computing time and file size that this would mean for the digital flow of the mapping information in GIS. [Termes IGN] projectionRésumé : (Auteur) The paper describes calibration and epipolar rectification for stereo with fish-eye optics. While stereo processing of classical cameras is state of the art for many applications, stereo with fish-eye cameras have been much less discussed in literature. This paper discusses the geometric calibration and the epipolar rectification as pre-requisite for stereo processing with fish-eyes. First, it surveys mathematical models to describe the projection. Then the paper presents a method of generating epipolar images which are suitable for stereo-processing with a field of view larger than 1 SO' in vertical and horizontal viewing directions. One example with 3D-point measuring from real fish-eye images demonstrates the feasibility of the calibration and rectification procedure.
