[Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Geographic information systems (GIS) are generally used for representation, analysis and management of marine resource data. One of the most important resources intensively studied by marine biologists is fish stock dynamics. Fish aggregations are a fundamental component of fish stock dynamics that must be well understood to establish efficient recovery strategies in the context of declining aquatic resources. Despite many interesting capabilities of current GIS, these tools are prone to problems due to the 3D and dynamic nature of the marine data, including fisheries data. This paper proposes a new approach for modelling and visualizing fish aggregations in a 3D space. The proposed approach is based on an integrated approach using dynamic Delaunay tetrahedralization and the á-shapes 3D clustering algorithm. The proposed approach is first validated using several experimental data sets. Next, it is applied to acoustic fisheries data to extract, visualize and analyze fish aggregations. The proposed approach also has the potential for tracking and studying fish dynamics and behaviour, if needed. At the end of the paper, some results are presented, and the benefits and limitations of the proposed 3D model are discussed. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) While the spatial resolution of remotely sensed data has improved, multispectral imagery is still not sufficient for urban classification. Problems include the difficulty in discriminating between trees and grass, the misclassification of buildings due to diverse roof compositions and shadow effects, and the misclassification of cars on roads. Recently, lidar (light detection and ranging) data have been integrated with remotely sensed data to obtain better classification results. In this study, we first conducted maximum likelihood classification (MLC) experiments, a traditional pixel-based classification method, to identify features suitable for urban classification using lidar data and aerial imagery. The addition of lidar height data improved the overall accuracy by up to 28 and 18 percent, respectively, compared to cases with only red–green–blue (RGB) and multispectral imagery. To further improve classification, we propose a knowledge-based classification system (KBCS) that includes a three-level height, “asphalt road, vegetation, and non-vegetation” (A–V–N) classification rule-based scheme and knowledge-based correction (KBC). The proposed KBCS improved overall accuracy by 12 and 7 percent compared to maximum likelihood and object-based classification, respectively. [Termes IGN] rocherRésumé : (Auteur) From now on, the French National Mapping Agency (IGN France) is set up with the BD TOPO®. This is a topographic vector database that covers the whole national territory. IGN has decided to product base maps at 1:25k and 1:50k from this database. On topographic mountain maps, rocks areas are among the most difficult map elements to represent, dealing with digital cartography. In the past, they were drawn manually by experienced cartographers, using graphic means and working with aerial photographs. Nowadays, we need to focus on two points with a digital approach. The first one is the detection and an automated classification of concerned areas. The next one is the development of an adapted cartographic representation of rocks and screes areas. This article presents the first results on these problems. As far as possible, we aim at having automated high mountain cartography with lower production costs. Also, we would like it to be as expressive as it was in previous maps. This is to keep the same cartographic quality of the current base map at 1:25k and 1:50k. [Termes IGN] surveillance de la végétationRésumé : (Auteur) The objectives of this research were: (1) to quantify indicators of riparian condition; and (2) to assess these indicators for detecting change in riparian condition. Two multi-spectral QuickBird images were acquired in 2004 and 2005 for a section of the Daly River in north Australia. These data were collected coincidently with vegetation and geomorphic field data. Indicators of riparian condition, including percentage canopy cover, organic litter, canopy continuity, bank stability, flood damage, riparian zone width and vegetation overhang, were then mapped. Field measurements and vegetation indices were empirically related using regression analysis to develop algorithms for mapping organic litter and canopy cover (R 2 = 0.59-0.78). Using a standard nearest-neighbour algorithm, object-oriented supervised image classification provided thematic information (overall accuracies 81-90%) for mapping riparian zone width and vegetation overhang. Bank stability and flood damage were mapped empirically from a combination of canopy cover information and the image classification products (R 2 = 0.70-0.81). Multi-temporal image analysis of riparian condition indicators (RCIs) demonstrated the advantages of using continuous and discrete data values as opposed to categorical data. This research demonstrates how remote sensing can be used for mapping and monitoring riparian zones in remote tropical savannas and other riparian environments at scales from 1 km to 100s km of stream length.
