[Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Understanding the response of plant species to soil factors on coastal sand dunes is critical for effective conservation of coastal habitats in the Mediterranean basin. Our main objectives were to investigate: i) the main soil factors driving species composition in a Mediterranean coastal dune environment; ii) the ecological requirements of focal plant species with respect to single soil factors; iii) whether the focal species of a given macrohabitat (including EU habitats) have similar edaphic needs. We identified 108 plots with three macrohabitats as strata (embryo dunes; mobile dunes; fixed dunes) by random stratified sampling design along the Tyrrhenian coast of central Italy in areas with a high degree of biodiversity and naturalness. Vegetation and soil data were collected in the plots.
Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) confirmed that soil had a main role in driving focal dune species composition as found in other Mediterranean areas and indicated that three factors (field capacity, pH and CaCO3) sufficiently explain patterns of plant species. An inverse relation between field capacity, which proves to be the most decisive feature for differences in species ecological requirements between macrohabitats, and pH was observed. Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) showed that: i) the focal species of fixed dunes have a higher probability of occurrence and response curves that overlap at high field capacity and TOC values and at low pH, showing an opposite trend with respect to the species of embryonic and mixed dunes; ii) species of mixed dunes have a probability of occurrence linked to different values of CaCO3, with Ammophila arenaria showing its optimum at high CaCO3 values. Thus our results sustain the hypothesis that dune focal species, diagnostic and characteristic of coastal dune marcohabitats, have different ecological responses with respect to soil factors. Moreover, species within the same habitat can have different ecological responses due to species competition. Lidar provides a possible solution for automatic tree‐inventory generation. Existing approaches for segmenting trees from original point cloud data lack scalable and efficient methods that separate individual trees sampled by different laser‐scanning systems with sufficient quality under all circumstances. In this study a new algorithm for efficient individual tree delineation from lidar point clouds is presented and validated. The proposed algorithm first resamples the points using cuboid (modified voxel) cells. Consecutively connected cells are accumulated by vertically traversing cell layers. Trees in close proximity are identified, based on a novel cell‐adjacency analysis. The scalable performance of this algorithm is validated on airborne, mobile and terrestrial laser‐scanning point clouds. Validation against ground truth demonstrates an improvement from 89% to 94% relative to a state‐of‐the‐art method while computation time is similar. In particular, discovering groups of moving objects is a valuable means for a wide class of problems related to mobility. The task of group mining has been investigated by considering mostly the spatial closeness and similarity of the trajectories, while little attention has been paid to the relationships between the trajectories and time-changing nature of the trajectories. The relationships may provide evidence of interactions between the moving objects. The time-changing nature may provide evidence of dynamics of the movements. Therefore, interactions and dynamics can be sources of information to be considered in order to discover new forms of groups. Motivated by this, we introduce the concept of crews and propose a method to discover crews. A crew gathers moving objects with similar interactions and similar dynamics. The proposed method relies on i) new movement parameters, which explicitly consider interactions and dynamics, and ii) a distance-free clustering algorithm, which groups objects based on the similarity of the movement parameters. We conduct extensive experiments, which include a quantitative evaluation of the quality of the crews and comparison with alternative solutions. [Termes IGN] station permanenteRésumé : (auteur) Mass redistribution of the atmosphere, oceans, and terrestrial water storage generates crustal displacements which can be predicted by environmental loading models and observed by the Global Positioning System (GPS). In this paper, daily height time series of 235 GPS stations derived from a homogeneously reprocessed Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC) and corresponding loading displacements predicted by the Deutsche GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ) are compared to assess the effects of loading corrections on the nonlinear variations of GPS time series. Results show that the average root mean square (RMS) of vertical displacements due to atmospheric, nontidal oceanic, hydrological, and their combined effects are 3.2, 0.6, 2.7, and 4.0 mm, respectively. Vertical annual signals of loading and GPS are consistent in amplitude but different in phase systematically. The average correlation coefficient between loading and GPS height time series is 0.6. RMS of the GPS height time series are reduced by 20% on average. Moreover, an investigation of 208 CMONOC stations with observing time spans of ~4.6 years shows that environmental loading corrections lead to an overestimation of the GPS velocity uncertainty by about 1.4 times on average. Nevertheless, by using a common mode component filter through principal component analysis, the dilution of velocity precision due to environmental loading corrections can be compensated. Existing clustering methods have mainly focused on the matching and clustering of complex trajectories. Few studies have paid attention to clustering origin-destination (OD) trips and discovering strong spatial linkages via OD lines, which is useful in many areas such as transportation, urban planning, and migration studies. In this paper, we present a new Simple Line Clustering Method (SLCM) that was designed to discover the strongest spatial linkage by searching for neighboring lines for every OD trip within a certain radius. This method adopts entropy theory and the probability distribution function for parameter selection to ensure significant clustering results. We demonstrate this method using bike-sharing location data in a metropolitan city. Results show that (1) the SLCM was significantly effective in discovering clusters at different scales, (2) results with the SLCM analysis confirmed known structures and discovered unknown structures, and (3) this approach can also be applied to other OD data to facilitate pattern extraction and structure understanding.
