[Termes IGN] MNS SRTMRésumé : (Auteur) We present a nonhierarchical electromagnetic (EM) land surface classification method through the integration of satellite multispectral high-resolution optical and polarized radar images of central Alberta near the Saskatchewan border. We implement a conventional supervised land surface classification method and a principal component analysis to a QuickBird image. The EM properties are then assigned to the classified surfaces to produce hierarchical EM land classification maps. To further classify a hierarchical EM surface (i.e., dielectric constant), we calculate the root-mean-square surface height with a Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 3-arc-second digital elevation model and the temperatures from a thermal band of a Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper image. We also calculate the backscattering coefficients from the Advanced Land Observing Satellite Phased Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar image. Using these estimated values, we calculate the intrinsic weighting factors with the Dubois (1995) model for less vegetated land areas and the Ulaby (1986) model for open water areas. By applying these weighting factors to the hierarchical EM surface, we generate a nonhierarchical higher resolution EM surface map of the study area. The distances considered here are the closest-pair distance, the farthest-pair distance, the average distance, the median-pair distance and the radius distance. This paper will offer a menu for users to choose hierarchical clustering algorithms on networks from a time complexity point of view. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a multi-scale method that computes robust geometric features on lidar point clouds in order to retrieve the optimal neighborhood size for each point. Three dimensionality features are calculated on spherical neighborhoods at various radius sizes. Based on combinations of the eigenvalues of the local structure tensor, they describe the shape of the neighborhood, indicating whether the local geometry is more linear (1D), planar (2D) or volumetric (3D). Two radius-selection criteria have been tested and compared for finding automatically the optimal neighborhood radius for each point. Besides, such procedure allows a dimensionality labelling, giving significant hints for classification and segmentation purposes. The method is successfully applied to 3D point clouds from airborne, terrestrial, and mobile mapping systems since no a priori knowledge on the distribution of the 3D points is required. Extracted dimensionality features and labellings are then favorably compared to those computed from constant size neighborhoods. Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] règle d'associationRésumé : (Auteur) The motivation for regional association rule mining and scoping is driven by the facts that global statistics seldom provide useful insight and that most relationships in spatial datasets are geographically regional, rather than global. Furthermore, when using traditional association rule mining, regional patterns frequently fail to be discovered due to insufficient global confidence and/or support. In this paper, we systematically study this problem and address the unique challenges of regional association mining and scoping: (1) region discovery: how to identify interesting regions from which novel and useful regional association rules can be extracted; (2) regional association rule scoping: how to determine the scope of regional association rules. We investigate the duality between regional association rules and regions where the associations are valid: interesting regions are identified to seek novel regional patterns, and a regional pattern has a scope of a set of regions in which the pattern is valid. In particular, we present a reward-based region discovery framework that employs a divisive grid-based supervised clustering for region discovery. We evaluate our approach in a real-world case study to identify spatial risk patterns from arsenic in the Texas water supply. Our experimental results confirm and validate research results in the study of arsenic contamination, and our work leads to the discovery of novel findings to be further explored by domain scientists.
