[Termes descripteurs IGN] varianceRésumé : (auteur) Homogenization is an important and crucial step to improve the usage of observational data for climate analysis. This work is motivated by the analysis of long series of GNSS Integrated Water Vapour (IWV) data which have not yet been used in this context. This paper proposes a novel segmentation method that integrates a periodic bias and a heterogeneous, monthly varying, variance. The method consists in estimating first the variance using a robust estimator and then estimating the segmentation and periodic bias iteratively. This strategy allows for the use of the dynamic programming algorithm that remains the most efficient exact algorithm to estimate the change-point positions. The statistical performance of the method is assessed through numerical experiments. An application to a real data set of 120 global GNSS stations is presented. The method is implemented in the R package GNSSseg that will be available on the CRAN. [Termes descripteurs IGN] pouvoir de résolution spectraleRésumé : (auteur) Pan-sharpening methods are commonly used to synthesize multispectral and panchromatic images. Selecting an appropriate algorithm that maintains the spectral and spatial information content of input images is a challenging task. This review paper investigates a wide range of algorithms, including 41 methods. For this purpose, the methods were categorized as Component Substitution (CS-based), Multi-Resolution Analysis (MRA), Variational Optimization-based (VO), and Hybrid and were tested on a collection of 21 case studies. These include images from WorldView-2, 3 & 4, GeoEye-1, QuickBird, IKONOS, KompSat-2, KompSat-3A, TripleSat, Pleiades-1, Pleiades with the aerial platform, and Deimos-2. Neural network-based methods were excluded due to their substantial computational requirements for operational mapping purposes. The methods were evaluated based on four Spectral and three Spatial quality metrics. An Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA) was used to statistically compare the pan-sharpening categories. Results indicate that MRA-based methods performed better in terms of spectral quality, whereas most Hybrid-based methods had the highest spatial quality and CS-based methods had the lowest results both spectrally and spatially. The revisited version of the Additive Wavelet Luminance Proportional Pan-sharpening method had the highest spectral quality, whereas Generalized IHS with Best Trade-off Parameter with Additive Weights showed the highest spatial quality. CS-based methods generally had the fastest run-time, whereas the majority of methods belonging to MRA and VO categories had relatively long run times. [Termes descripteurs IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (auteur) Current International Association of Geodesy efforts within regional geoid determination include the comparison of different computation methods in the quest for the “1-cm geoid.” Internal (formal) and external (empirical) approaches to evaluate geoid errors exist, and ideally they should agree. Spherical radial base functions using the spline kernel (SK), least-squares collocation (LSC), and Stokes’s formula are three commonly used methods for regional geoid computation. The three methods have been shown to be theoretically equivalent, as well as to numerically agree on the millimeter level in a closed-loop environment using synthetic noise-free data (Ophaug and Gerlach in J Geod 91:1367–1382, 2017. https://doi.org/10.1007/s00190-017-1030-1PANIST). This companion paper extends the closed-loop method comparison using synthetic data, in that we investigate and compare the formal error propagation using the three methods. We use synthetic uncorrelated and correlated noise regimes, both on the 1-mGal (=10−5 ms−2) level, applied to the input data. The estimated formal errors are validated by comparison with empirical errors, as determined from differences of the noisy geoid solutions to the noise-free solutions. We find that the error propagations of the methods are realistic in both uncorrelated and correlated noise regimes, albeit only when subjected to careful tuning, such as spectral band limitation and signal covariance adaptation. For the SKs, different implementations of the L-curve and generalized cross-validation methods did not provide an optimal regularization parameter. Although the obtained values led to a stabilized numerical system, this was not necessarily equivalent to obtaining the best solution. Using a regularization parameter governed by the agreement between formal and empirical error fields provided a solution of similar quality to the other methods. The errors in the uncorrelated regime are on the level of ∼5 mm and the method agreement within 1 mm, while the errors in the correlated regime are on the level of ∼10 mm, and the method agreement within 5 mm. Stokes’s formula generally gives the smallest error, closely followed by LSC and the SKs. To this effect, we note that error estimates from integration and estimation techniques must be interpreted differently, because the latter also take the signal characteristics into account. The high level of agreement gives us confidence in the applicability and comparability of formal errors resulting from the three methods. Finally, we present the error characteristics of geoid height differences derived from the three methods and discuss them qualitatively in relation to GNSS leveling. If applied to real data, this would permit identification of spatial scales for which height information is preferably derived by spirit leveling or GNSS leveling. [Termes descripteurs IGN] variogrammeRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial radar interferometry (TRI) can measure displacements at high temporal resolution, potentially with high accuracy. An application of this method is the observation of the surface flow velocity of steep, fast-flowing aglaciers. For these observations, the main factor limiting the accuracy of TRI observations is the spatial and temporal variabilities in the distribution of atmospheric water vapor content, causing a phase delay [atmospheric phase screen (APS)] whose magnitude is similar to the displacement phase. This contribution presents a geostatistical analysis of the spatial and temporal behaviors of the APS in Ku-Band TRI. The analysis is based on the assumption of a separable spatiotemporal covariance structure, which is tested empirically using variogram analysis. From this analysis, spatial and temporal APS statistics are estimated and used in a two-step procedure combining regression-Kriging with generalized least squares (GLS) inversion to estimate a velocity time-series. The performance of this method is evaluated by cross-validation using phase observations on stable scatterers. This analysis shows a considerable reduction in residual phase variance compared with the standard approach of combining the linear models of APS stratification and interferogram stacking. [Termes descripteurs IGN] séparateur à vaste margeRésumé : (Auteur) Due to the complex spectral and spatial structures of remotely sensed images, the delineation of land use/land cover classes using conventional approaches is a challenging task. This article tackles the problem of seeking optimal parameters of multi-resolution segmentation for a classification task using WorldView-2 imagery. Taguchi optimization was applied to search optimal parameters using the plateau objective function (POF) and quality rate (Qr) as fitness criteria. Analysis of variance was also used to estimate the contributions of the parameters for POF and Qr, separately. The scale parameter was the most effective one, with contribution levels of 87.45% and 56.87% for POF and Qr, respectively. Linear regression and support-vector regression methods were used to predict the results of the experiment. Test results revealed that Taguchi optimization was more effective than linear regression and support-vector regression for predicting POF and Qr values.
