[Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) Change detection was one of the earliest and is also one of the most important applications of remote sensing technology. For multispectral images, an effective solution for the change detection problem is to exploit all the available spectral bands to detect the spectral changes. However, in practice, the temporal spectral variance makes it difficult to separate changes and nonchanges. In this paper, we propose a novel slow feature analysis (SFA) algorithm for change detection. Compared with changed pixels, the unchanged ones should be spectrally invariant and varying slowly across the multitemporal images. SFA extracts the most temporally invariant component from the multitemporal images to transform the data into a new feature space. In this feature space, the differences in the unchanged pixels are suppressed so that the changed pixels can be better separated. Three SFA change detection approaches, comprising unsupervised SFA, supervised SFA, and iterative SFA, are constructed. Experiments on two groups of real Enhanced Thematic Mapper data sets show that our proposed method performs better in detecting changes than the other state-of-the-art change detection methods. [Termes IGN] variabilitéRésumé : (Auteur) The effects of signal contamination of secondary data are investigated in the framework of adaptive target detection in remotely sensed hyperspectral images. In contrast to previous studies on signal contamination, the focus of this paper is the detection of targets with unknown spectral signatures (i.e., anomalies) and adaptive detection methods based on a local estimation of the background covariance matrix. Contamination due to the target signal is expected to have a more severe impact when the number of secondary data is limited. An analytical model for signal contamination is developed that allows variability in the extent of contamination. Several parameters, such as the contamination fraction of secondary data and the contaminating signal energy, are introduced, and a contaminating signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio is derived as an objective measure of contamination. The proposed model is employed to experimentally evaluate signal contamination effects and the impact of its variability on the performance of adaptive detection of local anomalies. The outcomes of the experimental study are substantiated by validation with real hyperspectral data. The results obtained highlight the relevance that the impact of signal contamination, assessed with respect to different system parameters, may have for practical applications. This paper represents a starting point for the development of detection performance forecasting models that consider signal contamination. [Termes IGN] système multi-agentsRésumé : (Auteur) Agent-based modeling provides a means for addressing the way human and natural systems interact to change landscapes over time. Until recently, evaluation of simulation models has focused on map comparison techniques that evaluate the degree to which predictions match real-world observations. However, methods that change the focus of evaluation from patterns to processes have begun to surface; that is, rather than asking if a model simulates a correct pattern, models are evaluated on their ability to simulate a process of interest. We build on an existing agent-based modeling validation method in order to present a temporal variant-invariant analysis (TVIA). The enhanced method, which focuses on analyzing the uncertainty in simulation results, examines the degree to which outcomes from multiple model runs match some reference to how land use parcels make the transition from one land use class to another over time. We apply TVIA to results from an agent-based model that simulates the relationships between landowner decisions and wildfire risk in the wildland-urban interface of the southern Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA. The TVIA approach demonstrates a novel ability to examine uncertainty across time to provide an understanding of how the model emulates the system of interest. [Termes IGN] télémètre laser à balayageRésumé : (Auteur) For deriving the robust estimation by the EM (expectation maximization) algorithm for a model, which is more general than the linear model, the nonlinear Gauss Helmert (GH) model is chosen. It contains the errors-in-variables model as a special case. The nonlinear GH model is difficult to handle because of the linearization and the Gauss Newton iterations. Approximate values for the observations have to be introduced for the linearization. Robust estimates by the EM algorithm based on the variance-inflation model and the mean-shift model have been derived for the linear model in case of homoscedasticity. To derive these two EM algorithms for the GH model, different variances are introduced for the observations and the expectations of the measurements defined by the linear model are replaced by the ones of the GH model. The two robust methods are applied to fit by the GH model a polynomial surface of second degree to the measured three-dimensional coordinates of a laser scanner. This results in detecting more outliers than by the linear model.
