[Termes IGN] VMAPRésumé : (Auteur) Multi-VMap is a compact framework from which plane graphs representing geographic maps at different levels of detail can be extracted. Its main feature is that the scale of the extracted map can be variable through its domain, while each entity maintains consistent combinatorial relations with the rest of entities represented in the map. The model is based on a set of operators, called updates, which modify the level of detail in a small portion of a map. The set of updates is partially ordered and can therefore be represented as a Directed Acyclic Graph, which defines our multi-scale structure. An algorithm to extract a map at the required resolution is proposed, and a lower bound for the number of different maps which can be extracted from the model is given. The model supports map data processing operations (e.g., querying), as well as progressive and selective transmission of maps over a network. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Optimal location search is frequently required in many urban applications for siting one or more facilities. However, the search may become very complex when it involves multiple sites, various constraints and muItiple objectives. The exhaustive blind (brute-force) search with high-dimensional spatial data is infeasible in solving optimization problems because of a huge combinatorial solution space. Intelligent search algorithms can help to improve the performance of spatial search. This study will demonstrate that genetic algorithms can be used with Geographical Information systems (GIS) to effectively solve the spatial decision problems for optimally sitting n sites of a facility. Detailed population and transportation data from GIS are used to facilitate the calculation of fitness functions. Multiple planning objectives are also incorporated in the GA program. Experiments indicate that the proposed method has much better performance than simulated annealing and GIS neighborhood search methods. The GA method is very convenient in finding the solution with the highest utility value. [Termes IGN] SIG 3DRésumé : (Auteur) 3-D analysis in GIS is still one of the most challenging topics for research. With the goal being to model possible movement within the built environment, this paper, therefore, proposes a new approach to handling connectivity relationships among 3-D objects in urban environments in order to implement spatial access analyses in 3-D Npace. To achieve this goal, this paper introduces a 3-D network data model called the geometric network model (GNM), which has been developed by transforming the combinatorial data model (CDM), representing a connectivity relationship among 3-D objects using a dual graph. For the transformation, this paper presents (1) an O(n2) algorithm for computing a straight medial axis transformation (MAT), (2) the processes for transforming phenomena from 3-D CDM to 3-D GNM, and (3) spatial access algorithms for the 3-D geometric network based upon the Dijkstra algorithm. Using the reconstructed geometric network generated from the transformations, spatial queries based upon the complex connectivity relationships between 3-D urban entities are implemented using Dijkstra algorithm. Finally, the paper presents the results of an experimental implementation of a 3-D network data model (GNM) using GIS data of an area in downtown Columbus, Ohio. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) Even though many efficient building reconstruction methods have been published so far, automatic processes are still missing for the production of 3D city models. This gap between research results and effective production tools seems mainly due to a lack of cooperation between all these methods. Building reconstruction in dense urban areas is such a complex problem that it is hopeless to look for an universal solution that could efficiently reconstruct every building, from a simple gabled roof to a whole cathedral. In this paper we first present a general strategy to combine several automatic and user-assisted processes to produce three-dimensional city models in a real production context using aerial images and 2D ground maps. The strategy aims at taking advantage of each algorithm to be sure they complement each other. Then we illustrate this strategy by describing our operational implementation and its results. In this implementation, the first step is a combination of two automatic algorithms: a model driven and a data driven process. In a second step, user-assisted tools supplement the reconstruction: some are adapted to precise landscape features while others are more generic.
