[Termes IGN] projetRésumé : (auteur) The workshop aims to explain how the ELF project articulates with INSPIRE, presenting these interrelations as a modern love story! Coming from the European Commission family, INSPIRE was a handsome and clever guy; though young, he already performed significant achievements by setting up the legal framework for the European Spatial Data Infrastructure. However, he felt alone and needed some help to transform this legal framework into an operational platform delivering harmonized data. Coming from the EuroGeographics family, the ELF initiative was also young but with similar ambitions as INSPIRE and with some practical achievements coming from a previous project (ESDIN). Of course, this common viewpoint brought them closer and they fell in love very quickly! In a classical tale, it would be the end of the love story but in a modern tale, the two protagonists have to decide about how to manage their respective assets and how to raise their children … all topics that may be cause of fruitful cooperation but also of dispute! For instance, do the ELF specifications bring any improvement to the beautiful INSPIRE house or are proposing a competitive place of living? How difficult or easy was the birth of the so expected operational services children? What about the ELF products and ELF licences? Should we consider them as the common children of ELF and INSPIRE (as built on INSPIRE) or is INSPIRE just their stepfather (as no equivalent in INSPIRE)? The INSPIRE GeoPortal and the ELF platforms look like just half-brothers, not sharing the same objectives and not being based on same technologies? Nevertheless, do they live quietly together or are they always fighting? Is it the same case for the ELF and INSPIRE tools, do they address the same issues (and might duplicate) or are they complementary? Last but not least, what is the future of this love story? Will the promising children grow in beauty, strength, efficiency… or will they just become exasperating teen-agers? Will they get new children? How will the children’s financial future be secured? Will the European Commission and EuroGeographics families provide some financial help? Might they divorce or in opposite will they get officially married? Our story tellers will explain in detail how our very active protagonists have organised their modern family life, struggling to make their various achievements live in a (relatively) harmonious way and how their future might look like. In this work, we deal with a spoken corpus of life stories and a crowd-sourced Web corpus of people's contributions related to urban planning issues in their city. Located information constitutes an essential component in these corpora. Toponyms refer to official names (e.g. Congo) which are listed in gazetteers but often to generic locations such as un endroit très beau (a beautiful place). Because of the nature of the corpora, these generic locations are inherently subjective, vague and descriptive. For enabling automated exploitation of these texts, it is crucial to properly detect such kinds of place mentions. In this sense, the present work provides a comparative study of state-of-art NER systems, most importantly of supervised tools such as Stanford NER, for the identification of generic locations in thematic corpora. [Termes IGN] sylvicultureRésumé : (auteur) In this study, two forest sites located in Finland were compared by means of predictions of Gini coefficient (GC) obtained from airborne laser scanning (ALS). We discuss the potential of the proposed method for identifying differences in structural complexity in relation with the management history of forests. The first study site (2200 ha), the Koli National Park (NP), includes areas where human intervention was restricted after 1907, in addition to forests which were protected only after the 1990s. The second study site in the municipality of Kiihtelysvaara (800 ha) has been under intensive management. These are commercial forests which include areas with different types of ownership: a large estate owned by an industrial company together with smaller private properties. We observed that GC predictions may be used to evaluate the effects of management practice on forest structure. Conservation and commercial forests showed significant differences, with the old-protected area of Koli having the highest, and the most intensively managed area in Kiihtelysvaara the lowest GC values. The effect of management history was revealed, as the 1990s’ extensions of Koli NP were more similar to unprotected areas than to forests contained within the original borders of the 1907s’ state property. Yet, their conservation status for almost two decades has been sufficient for developing significant differences against the outside of the NP. In Kiihtelysvaara, we found significant differences in GC according to the type of ownership. Moreover, the ALS predictions of GC also detected differences near lakeshores, which are driven by limitations on logging governed by Finnish law. Estimating this indicator with ALS remote sensing allowed to observe its spatial distribution and to detect peculiarities which would otherwise be unavailable from field plot sampling. Consequently, the method presented appears to be well suited for monitoring the effects of management practice, as well as verifying its compliance with legal restrictions.
